JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Lorsque des hommes auront une contestation, ils iront en justice pour qu'on prononce entreeux: on donnera raison à qui a raison et tort à qui a tort.	1 If there be a controversy between men, and they call upon the judges: they shall give the prize of justice to him whom they perceive to be just: and him whom they find to be wicked, they shall condemn of wickedness.
2 Si celui qui a tort mérite des coups, le juge le fera étendre à terre en sa présence, et frapperd'un nombre de coups proportionnel à ses torts.	2 And if they see that the offender be worthy of stripes: they shall lay him down, and shall cause him to be beaten before them. According to the measure of the sin shall the measure also of the stripes be:
3 Il pourra lui infliger 40 coups, mais pas davantage, de peur qu'en frappant davantage lameurtrissure ne soit grave et que ton frère ne soit avili à tes yeux.	3 Yet so, that they exceed not the number of forty: lest thy brother depart shamefully torn before thy eyes.
4 Tu ne muselleras pas le boeuf quand il foule le grain.	4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out thy corn on the floor.
5 Si des frères demeurent ensemble et que l'un d'eux vienne à mourir sans enfant, la femme dudéfunt ne se mariera pas au-dehors avec un homme d'une famille étrangère. Son "lévir" viendra à elle, il exercerason lévirat en la prenant pour épouse	5 When brethren dwell together, and one of them dieth without children, the wife of the deceased shall not marry to another: but his brother shall take her, and raise up seed for his brother:
6 et le premier-né qu'elle enfantera relèvera le nom de son frère défunt; ainsi son nom ne serapas effacé d'Israël.	6 And the first son he shall have of her he shall call by his name, that his name be not abolished out of Israel.
7 Mais si cet homme refuse de prendre celle dont il doit être lévir, elle ira trouver les anciens àla porte et dira: "Je n'ai pas de lévir qui veuille relever le nom de son frère en Israël, il ne consent pas à exerceren ma faveur son lévirat."	7 But if he will not take his brother's wife, who by law belongeth to him, the woman shall go to the gate of the city, and call upon the ancients, and say: My husband's brother refuseth to raise up his brother's name in Israel: and will not take me to wife.
8 Les anciens de sa cité convoqueront cet homme et lui parleront. Ayant comparu, il dira: "Jerefuse de la prendre."	8 And they shall cause him to be sent for forthwith, and shall ask him. If he answer: I will not take her to wife:
9 Celle à qui il doit le lévirat s'approchera de lui en présence des anciens, lui ôtera sa sandaledu pied, lui crachera au visage et prononcera ces paroles: "Ainsi fait-on à l'homme qui ne relève pas la maison deson frère",	9 The woman shall come to him before the ancients, and shall take off his shoe from his foot, and spit in his face, and say: So shall it be done to the man that will not build up his brother's house:
10 et sa maison sera ainsi appelée en Israël: "Maison du déchaussé.	10 And his name shall be called in Israel, the house of the unshod.
11 Lorsque des hommes se battent ensemble, un homme et son frère, si la femme de l'un d'euxs'approche et, pour dégager son mari des coups de l'autre, avance la main et saisit celui-ci par les partieshonteuses,	11 If two men have words together, and one begin to fight against the other, and the other's wife willing to deliver her husband out of the hand of the stronger, shall put forth her hand, and take him by the secrets,
12 tu lui couperas la main sans un regard de pitié.	12 Thou shalt cut off her hand, neither shalt thou be moved with any pity in her regard.
13 Tu n'auras pas dans ton sac poids et poids, l'un lourd et l'autre léger.	13 Thou shalt not have divers weights in thy bag, a greater and a less:
14 Il n'y aura pas dans ta maison mesure et mesure, l'une grande et l'autre petite.	14 Neither shall there be in thy house a greater bushel and a less.
15 Tu auras un poids intact et exact, et tu auras une mesure entière et exacte, afin d'avoirlongue vie sur la terre que Yahvé ton Dieu te donne	15 Thou shalt have a just and a true weight, and thy bushel shall be equal and true: that thou mayest live a long time upon the land which the Lord thy God shall give thee.
16 Car Yahvé ton Dieu a en abomination quiconque pratique ces choses, quiconque exerce lafraude.	16 For the Lord thy God abhorreth him that doth these things, and he hateth all injustice.
17 Rappelle-toi ce que t'a fait Amaleq quand vous étiez en chemin à votre sortie d'Egypte.	17 Remember what Amalec did to thee in the way when thou camest out of Egypt:
18 Il vint à ta rencontre sur le chemin et, par derrière, après ton passage, il attaqua les éclopés;quand tu étais las et exténué, il n'eut pas crainte de Dieu.	18 How he met thee: and slew the hindmost of the army, who sat down, being weary, when thou wast spent with hunger and labour, and he feared not God.
19 Lorsque Yahvé ton Dieu t'aura établi à l'abri de tous tes ennemis alentour, au pays queYahvé ton Dieu te donne en héritage pour le posséder, tu effaceras le souvenir d'Amaleq de dessous les cieux.N'oublie pas!	19 Therefore when the Lord thy God shall give thee rest, and shall have subdued all the nations round about in the land which he hath promised thee: thou shalt blot out his name from under heaven. See thou forget it not.
