Évangile selon Luc 12

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Sur ces entrefaites, la foule s'étant rassemblée par milliers, au point qu'on s'écrasait les uns les autres, ilse mit à dire, et d'abord à ses disciples: "Méfiez-vous du levain - c'est-à-dire de l'hypocrisie - des Pharisiens.	1 Meanwhile the people had gathered in their thousands so that they were treading on one another. Andhe began to speak, first of al to his disciples. 'Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees -- theirhypocrisy.
2 Rien, en effet, n'est voilé qui ne sera révélé, rien de caché qui ne sera connu.	2 Everything now covered up will be uncovered, and everything now hidden wil be made clear.
3 C'est pourquoi tout ce que vous aurez dit dans les ténèbres sera entendu au grand jour, et ce que vousaurez dit à l'oreille dans les pièces les plus retirées sera proclamé sur les toits.	3 For this reason, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you havewhispered in hidden places wil be proclaimed from the housetops.
4 "Je vous le dis à vous, mes amis: Ne craignez rien de ceux qui tuent le corps et après cela ne peuventrien faire de plus.	4 'To you my friends I say: Do not be afraid of those who kil the body and after that can do no more.
5 Je vais vous montrer qui vous devez craindre: craignez Celui qui, après avoir tué, a le pouvoir de jeterdans la géhenne; oui, je vous le dis, Celui-là, craignez-le.	5 I wil tel you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has kil ed, has the power to cast into hel . Yes, I telyou, he is the one to fear.
6 Ne vend-on pas cinq passereaux pour deux as? Et pas un d'entre eux n'est en oubli devant Dieu!	6 Can you not buy five sparrows for two pennies? And yet not one is forgotten in God's sight.
7 Bien plus, vos cheveux même sont tous comptés. Soyez sans crainte; vous valez mieux qu'unemultitude de passereaux.	7 Why, every hair on your head has been counted. There is no need to be afraid: you are worth morethan many sparrows.
8 "Je vous le dis, quiconque se sera déclaré pour moi devant les hommes, le Fils de l'homme aussi sedéclarera pour lui devant les anges de Dieu;	8 'I tel you, if anyone openly declares himself for me in the presence of human beings, the Son of manwil declare himself for him in the presence of God's angels.
9 mais celui qui m'aura renié à la face des hommes sera renié à la face des anges de Dieu.	9 But anyone who disowns me in the presence of human beings wil be disowned in the presence ofGod's angels.
10 "Et quiconque dira une parole contre le Fils de l'homme, cela lui sera remis, mais à qui aurablasphémé contre le Saint Esprit, cela ne sera pas remis.	10 'Everyone who says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven, but no one who blasphemesagainst the Holy Spirit wil be forgiven.
11 "Lorsqu'on vous conduira devant les synagogues, les magistrats et les autorités, ne cherchez pas avecinquiétude comment vous défendre ou que dire,	11 'When they take you before synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how todefend yourselves or what to say,
12 car le Saint Esprit vous enseignera à cette heure même ce qu'il faut dire."	12 because when the time comes, the Holy Spirit wil teach you what you should say.'
13 Quelqu'un de la foule lui dit: "Maître, dis à mon frère de partager avec moi notre héritage."	13 A man in the crowd said to him, 'Master, tel my brother to give me a share of our inheritance.'
14 Il lui dit: "Homme, qui m'a établi pour être votre juge ou régler vos partages?"	14 He said to him, 'My friend, who appointed me your judge, or the arbitrator of your claims?'
15 Puis il leur dit: "Attention! gardez-vous de toute cupidité, car, au sein même de l'abondance, la vied'un homme n'est pas assurée par ses biens."	15 Then he said to them, 'Watch, and be on your guard against avarice of any kind, for life does notconsist in possessions, even when someone has more than he needs.'
16 Il leur dit alors une parabole: "Il y avait un homme riche dont les terres avaient beaucoup rapporté.	16 Then he told them a parable, 'There was once a rich man who, having had a good harvest from hisland,
17 Et il se demandait en lui-même: Que vais-je faire? Car je n'ai pas où recueillir ma récolte.	17 thought to himself, "What am I to do? I have not enough room to store my crops."
18 Puis il se dit: Voici ce que je vais faire: j'abattrai mes greniers, j'en construirai de plus grands, j'yrecueillerai tout mon blé et mes biens,	18 Then he said, "This is what I will do: I wil pul down my barns and build bigger ones, and store al mygrain and my goods in them,
19 et je dirai à mon âme: Mon âme, tu as quantité de biens en réserve pour de nombreuses années;repose-toi, mange, bois, fais la fête.	19 and I will say to my soul: My soul, you have plenty of good things laid by for many years to come;take things easy, eat, drink, have a good time."
20 Mais Dieu lui dit: Insensé, cette nuit même, on va te redemander ton âme. Et ce que tu as amassé, quil'aura?	20 But God said to him, "Fool! This very night the demand wil be made for your soul; and this hoard ofyours, whose wil it be then?"
21 Ainsi en est-il de celui qui thésaurise pour lui-même, au lieu de s'enrichir en vue de Dieu."	21 So it is when someone stores up treasure for himself instead of becoming rich in the sight of God.'
22 Puis il dit à ses disciples: "Voilà pourquoi je vous dis: Ne vous inquiétez pas pour votre vie de ce quevous mangerez, ni pour votre corps de quoi vous le vêtirez.	22 Then he said to his disciples, 'That is why I am tel ing you not to worry about your life and what youare to eat, nor about your body and how you are to clothe it.
23 Car la vie est plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement.	23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
24 Considérez les corbeaux: ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent, ils n'ont ni cellier ni grenier, et Dieu lesnourrit. Combien plus valez-vous que les oiseaux!	24 Think of the ravens. They do not sow or reap; they have no storehouses and no barns; yet God feedsthem. And how much more you are worth than the birds!
25 Qui d'entre vous d'ailleurs peut, en s'en inquiétant, ajouter une coudée à la longueur de sa vie?	25 Can any of you, however much you worry, add a single cubit to your span of life?
26 Si donc la plus petite chose même passe votre pouvoir, pourquoi vous inquiéter des autres?	26 If a very smal thing is beyond your powers, why worry about the rest?
27 Considérez les lis, comme ils ne filent ni ne tissent. Or, je vous le dis, Salomon lui-même, dans toutesa gloire, n'a pas été vêtu comme l'un d'eux.	27 Think how the flowers grow; they never have to spin or weave; yet, I assure you, not even Solomon inal his royal robes was clothed like one of them.
28 Que si, dans les champs, Dieu habille de la sorte l'herbe qui est aujourd'hui, et demain sera jetée aufour, combien plus le fera-t-il pour vous, gens de peu de foi!	28 Now if that is how God clothes a flower which is growing wild today and is thrown into the furnacetomorrow, how much more wil he look after you, who have so little faith!
29 Vous non plus, ne cherchez pas ce que vous mangerez et ce que vous boirez; ne vous tourmentez pas.	29 But you must not set your hearts on things to eat and things to drink; nor must you worry.
30 Car ce sont là toutes choses dont les païens de ce monde sont en quête; mais votre Père sait que vousen avez besoin.	30 It is the gentiles of this world who set their hearts on al these things. Your Father wel knows youneed them.
31 Aussi bien, cherchez son Royaume, et cela vous sera donné par surcroît.	31 No; set your hearts on his kingdom, and these other things will be given you as well.
32 "Sois sans crainte, petit troupeau, car votre Père s'est complu à vous donner le Royaume.	32 'There is no need to be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom.
33 "Vendez vos biens, et donnez-les en aumône. Faites-vous des bourses qui ne s'usent pas, un trésorinépuisable dans les cieux, où ni voleur n'approche ni mite ne détruit.	33 'Sel your possessions and give to those in need. Get yourselves purses that do not wear out,treasure that wil not fail you, in heaven where no thief can reach it and no moth destroy it.
34 Car où est votre trésor, là aussi sera votre coeur.	34 For wherever your treasure is, that is where your heart wil be too.
35 "Que vos reins soient ceints et vos lampes allumées.	35 'See that you have your belts done up and your lamps lit.
36 Soyez semblables, vous, à des gens qui attendent leur maître à son retour de noces, pour lui ouvrirdès qu'il viendra et frappera.	36 Be like people waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, ready to open the door assoon as he comes and knocks.
37 Heureux ces serviteurs que le maître en arrivant trouvera en train de veiller! En vérité, je vous le dis,il se ceindra, les fera mettre à table et, passant de l'un à l'autre, il les servira.	37 Blessed those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. In truth I tel you, he wil do uphis belt, sit them down at table and wait on them.
38 Qu'il vienne à la deuxième ou à la troisième veille, s'il trouve les choses ainsi, heureux seront-ils!	38 It may be in the second watch that he comes, or in the third, but blessed are those servants if he findsthem ready.
39 Comprenez bien ceci: si le maître de maison avait su à quelle heure le voleur devait venir, il n'auraitpas laissé percer le mur de sa maison.	39 You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what time the burglar wouldcome, he would not have let anyone break through the wall of his house.
40 Vous aussi, tenez-vous prêts, car c'est à l'heure que vous ne pensez pas que le Fils de l'homme vavenir."	40 You too must stand ready, because the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.'
41 Pierre dit alors: "Seigneur, est-ce pour nous que tu dis cette parabole, ou bien pour tout le monde?"	41 Peter said, 'Lord, do you mean this parable for us, or for everyone?'
42 Et le Seigneur dit: "Quel est donc l'intendant fidèle, avisé, que le maître établira sur ses gens pourleur donner en temps voulu leur ration de blé?	42 The Lord replied, 'Who, then, is the wise and trustworthy steward whom the master wil place over hishousehold to give them at the proper time their al owance of food?
43 Heureux ce serviteur, que son maître en arrivant trouvera occupé de la sorte!	43 Blessed that servant if his master's arrival finds him doing exactly that.
44 Vraiment, je vous le dis, il l'établira sur tous ses biens.	44 I tel you truly, he wil put him in charge of everything that he owns.
45 Mais si ce serviteur dit en son coeur: Mon maître tarde à venir, et qu'il se mette à frapper lesserviteurs et les servantes, à manger, boire et s'enivrer,	45 But if the servant says to himself, "My master is taking his time coming," and sets about beating themenservants and the servant-girls, and eating and drinking and getting drunk,
46 le maître de ce serviteur arrivera au jour qu'il n'attend pas et à l'heure qu'il ne connaît pas; il leretranchera et lui assignera sa part parmi les infidèles.	46 his master wil come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. The master willcut him off and send him to the same fate as the unfaithful.
47 "Le serviteur qui, connaissant la volonté de son maître, n'aura rien préparé ou fait selon sa volonté,recevra un grand nombre de coups.	47 'The servant who knows what his master wants, but has got nothing ready and done nothing inaccord with those wishes, wil be given a great many strokes of the lash.
48 Quant à celui qui, sans la connaître, aura par sa conduite mérité des coups, il n'en recevra qu'un petitnombre. A qui on aura donné beaucoup il sera beaucoup demandé, et à qui on aura confié beaucoup onréclamera davantage.	48 The one who did not know, but has acted in such a way that he deserves a beating, will be givenfewer strokes. When someone is given a great deal, a great deal wil be demanded of that person; whensomeone is entrusted with a great deal, of that person even more will be expected.
49 "Je suis venu jeter un feu sur la terre, et comme je voudrais que déjà il fût allumé!	49 'I have come to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were blazing already!
50 Je dois être baptisé d'un baptême, et quelle n'est pas mon angoisse jusqu'à ce qu'il soit consommé!	50 There is a baptism I must stil receive, and what constraint I am under until it is completed!
51 "Pensez-vous que je sois apparu pour établir la paix sur la terre? Non, je vous le dis, mais bien ladivision.	51 'Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tel you, but rather division.
52 Désormais en effet, dans une maison de cinq personnes, on sera divisé, trois contre deux et deuxcontre trois:	52 For from now on, a household of five will be divided: three against two and two against three;
53 on sera divisé, père contre fils et fils contre père, mère contre sa fille et fille contre sa mère, belle-mère contre sa bru et bru contre sa belle-mère."	53 father opposed to son, son to father, mother to daughter, daughter to mother, mother-in-law todaughter-in-law, daughter-in-law to mother-in-law.'
54 Il disait encore aux foules: "Lorsque vous voyez un nuage se lever au couchant, aussitôt vous ditesque la pluie vient, et ainsi arrive-t-il.	54 He said again to the crowds, 'When you see a cloud looming up in the west you say at once that rainis coming, and so it does.
55 Et lorsque c'est le vent du midi qui souffle, vous dites qu'il va faire chaud, et c'est ce qui arrive.	55 And when the wind is from the south you say it's going to be hot, and it is.
56 Hypocrites, vous savez discerner le visage de la terre et du ciel; et ce temps-ci alors, comment ne lediscernez-vous pas?	56 Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the face of the earth and the sky. How is it you do not knowhow to interpret these times?
57 "Mais pourquoi ne jugez-vous pas par vous-mêmes de ce qui est juste?	57 'Why not judge for yourselves what is upright?
58 Ainsi, quand tu vas avec ton adversaire devant le magistrat, tâche, en chemin, d'en finir avec lui, depeur qu'il ne te traîne devant le juge, que le juge ne te livre à l'exécuteur, et que l'exécuteur ne te jette en prison.	58 For example: when you are going to court with your opponent, make an effort to settle with him on theway, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the officer and the officer have youthrown into prison.
59 Je te le dis, tu ne sortiras pas de là que tu n'aies rendu même jusqu'au dernier sou."	59 I tel you, you wil not get out til you have paid the very last penny.'
