1 Et il advint, comme il était quelque part à prier, quand il eut cessé, un de ses disciples lui dit:"Seigneur, apprends-nous à prier, comme Jean l'a appris à ses disciples."	1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2 Il leur dit: "Lorsque vous priez, dites: Père, que ton Nom soit sanctifié; que ton règne vienne;	2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3 donne-nous chaque jour notre pain quotidien;	3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 et remets-nous nos péchés, car nous-mêmes remettons à quiconque nous doit; et ne nous soumets pas àla tentation."	4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
5 Il leur dit encore: "Si l'un de vous, ayant un ami, s'en va le trouver au milieu de la nuit, pour lui dire:Mon ami, prête-moi trois pains,	5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
6 parce qu'un de mes amis m'est arrivé de voyage et je n'ai rien à lui servir,	6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
7 et que de l'intérieur l'autre réponde: Ne me cause pas de tracas; maintenant la porte est fermée, et mesenfants et moi sommes au lit; je ne puis me lever pour t'en donner;	7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
8 je vous le dis, même s'il ne se lève pas pour les lui donner en qualité d'ami, il se lèvera du moins àcause de son impudence et lui donnera tout ce dont il a besoin.	8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
9 "Et moi, je vous dis: demandez et l'on vous donnera; cherchez et vous trouverez; frappez et l'on vousouvrira.	9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10 Car quiconque demande reçoit; qui cherche trouve; et à qui frappe on ouvrira.	10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
11 Quel est d'entre vous le père auquel son fils demandera un poisson, et qui, à la place du poisson, luiremettra un serpent?	11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Ou encore s'il demande un oeuf, lui remettra-t-il un scorpion?	12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
13 Si donc vous, qui êtes mauvais, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, combien plus lePère du ciel donnera-t-il l'Esprit Saint à ceux qui l'en prient!"	13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
14 Il expulsait un démon, qui était muet. Or il advint que, le démon étant sorti, le muet parla, et lesfoules furent dans l'admiration.	14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.
15 Mais certains d'entre eux dirent: "C'est par Béelzéboul, le prince des démons, qu'il expulse lesdémons."	15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.
16 D'autres, pour le mettre à l'épreuve, réclamaient de lui un signe venant du ciel.	16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.
17 Mais lui, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: "Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est dévasté, etmaison sur maison s'écroule.	17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
18 Si donc Satan s'est, lui aussi, divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume se maintiendra-t-il...puisque vous dites que c'est par Béelzéboul que j'expulse les démons.	18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.
19 Mais si, moi, c'est par Béelzéboul que j'expulse les démons, vos fils, par qui les expulsent-ils? Aussiseront-ils eux-mêmes vos juges.	19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
20 Mais si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que j'expulse les démons, c'est donc que le Royaume de Dieu estarrivé jusqu'à vous.	20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
21 Lorsqu'un homme fort et bien armé garde son palais, ses biens sont en sûreté;	21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
22 mais qu'un plus fort que lui survienne et le batte, il lui enlève l'armure en laquelle il se confiait et ildistribue ses dépouilles.	22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
23 "Qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi, et qui n'amasse pas avec moi dissipe.	23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
24 "Lorsque l'esprit impur est sorti de l'homme, il erre par des lieux arides en quête de repos. N'entrouvant pas, il dit: Je vais retourner dans ma demeure, d'où je suis sorti.	24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
25 Etant venu, il la trouve balayée, bien en ordre.	25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
26 Alors il s'en va prendre sept autres esprits plus mauvais que lui; ils reviennent et y habitent. Et l'étatfinal de cet homme devient pire que le premier."	26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
27 Or il advint, comme il parlait ainsi, qu'une femme éleva la voix du milieu de la foule et lui dit:"Heureuses les entrailles qui t'ont porté et les seins que tu as sucés!"	27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
28 Mais il dit: "Heureux plutôt ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et l'observent!"	28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
29 Comme les foules se pressaient en masse, il se mit à dire: "Cette génération est une générationmauvaise; elle demande un signe, et de signe, il ne lui sera donné que le signe de Jonas.	29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
30 Car, tout comme Jonas devint un signe pour les Ninivites, de même le Fils de l'homme en sera unpour cette génération.	30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
31 La reine du Midi se lèvera lors du Jugement avec les hommes de cette génération et elle lescondamnera, car elle vint des extrémités de la terre pour écouter la sagesse de Salomon, et il y a ici plus queSalomon!	31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
32 Les hommes de Ninive se dresseront lors du Jugement avec cette génération et ils la condamneront,car ils se repentirent à la proclamation de Jonas, et il y a ici plus que Jonas!	32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
33 "Personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la met en quelque endroit caché ou sous le boisseau,mais bien sur le lampadaire, pour que ceux qui pénètrent voient la clarté.	33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.
34 La lampe du corps, c'est ton oeil. Lorsque ton oeil est sain, ton corps tout entier aussi est lumineux;mais dès qu'il est malade, ton corps aussi est ténébreux.	34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
35 Vois donc si la lumière qui est en toi n'est pas ténèbres!	35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
36 Si donc ton corps tout entier est lumineux, sans aucune partie ténébreuse, il sera lumineux tout entier,comme lorsque la lampe t'illumine de son éclat."	36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
37 Tandis qu'il parlait, un Pharisien l'invite à déjeuner chez lui. Il entra et se mit à table.	37 And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.
38 Ce que voyant, le Pharisien s'étonna de ce qu'il n'eût pas fait d'abord les ablutions avant le déjeuner.	38 And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.
39 Mais le Seigneur lui dit: "Vous voilà bien, vous, les Pharisiens! L'extérieur de la coupe et du plat,vous le purifiez, alors que votre intérieur à vous est plein de rapine et de méchanceté!	39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.
40 Insensés! Celui qui a fait l'extérieur n'a-t-il pas fait aussi l'intérieur?	40 Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?
41 Donnez plutôt en aumône ce que vous avez, et alors tout sera pur pour vous.	41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.
42 Mais malheur à vous, les Pharisiens, qui acquittez la dîme de la menthe, de la rue et de toute plantepotagère, et qui délaissez la justice et l'amour de Dieu! Il fallait pratiquer ceci, sans omettre cela.	42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
43 Malheur à vous, les Pharisiens, qui aimez le premier siège dans les synagogues et les salutations surles places publiques!	43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
44 Malheur à vous, qui êtes comme les tombeaux que rien ne signale et sur lesquels on marche sans lesavoir!"	44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.
45 Prenant alors la parole, un des légistes lui dit: "Maître, en parlant ainsi, tu nous outrages, nous aussi!"	45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.
46 Alors il dit: "A vous aussi, les légistes, malheur, parce que vous chargez les gens de fardeauximpossibles à porter et vous-mêmes ne touchez pas à ces fardeaux d'un seul de vos doigts!	46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
47 "Malheur à vous, parce que vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, et ce sont vos pères qui les onttués!	47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
48 Vous êtes donc des témoins et vous approuvez les actes de vos pères; eux ont tué, et vous, vousbâtissez!	48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.
49 "Et voilà pourquoi la Sagesse de Dieu a dit: Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres; ils entueront et pourchasseront,	49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
50 afin qu'il soit demandé compte à cette génération du sang de tous les prophètes qui a été répandudepuis la fondation du monde,	50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
51 depuis le sang d'Abel jusqu'au sang de Zacharie, qui périt entre l'autel et le Temple. Oui, je vous ledis, il en sera demandé compte à cette génération.	51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
52 Malheur à vous, les légistes, parce que vous avez enlevé la clef de la science! Vous-mêmes n'êtes pasentrés, et ceux qui voulaient entrer, vous les en avez empêchés!	52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
53 Quand il fut sorti de là, les scribes et les Pharisiens se mirent à lui en vouloir terriblement et à le faireparler sur une foule de choses,	53 And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:
54 lui tendant des pièges pour surprendre de sa bouche quelque parole.	54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
