Évangile selon Matthieu 6

JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 "Gardez-vous de pratiquer votre justice devant les hommes, pour vous faire remarquer d'eux;sinon, vous n'aurez pas de récompense auprès de votre Père qui est dans les cieux.	1 Take heed that you do not your justice before men, to be seen by them: otherwise you shall not have a reward of your Father who is in heaven.
2 Quand donc tu fais l'aumône, ne va pas le claironner devant toi; ainsi font les hypocrites, dans lessynagogues et les rues, afin d'être glorifiés par les hommes; en vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.	2 Therefore when thou dost an almsdeed, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be honoured by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.
3 Pour toi, quand tu fais l'aumône, que ta main gauche ignore ce que fait ta main droite,	3 But when thou dost alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doth.
4 afin que ton aumône soit secrète; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.	4 That thy alms may be in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret will repay thee.
5 "Et quand vous priez, ne soyez pas comme les hypocrites: ils aiment, pour faire leurs prières, à secamper dans les synagogues et les carrefours, afin qu'on les voie. En vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.	5 And when ye pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, that love to stand and pray in the synagogues and corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men: Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.
6 Pour toi, quand tu pries, retire-toi dans ta chambre, ferme sur toi la porte, et prie ton Père qui est là,dans le secret; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.	6 But thou when thou shalt pray, enter into thy chamber, and having shut the door, pray to thy Father in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret will repay thee.
7 "Dans vos prières, ne rabâchez pas comme les païens: ils s'imaginent qu'en parlant beaucoup ils seferont mieux écouter.	7 And when you are praying, speak not much, as the heathens. For they think that in their much speaking they may be heard.
8 N'allez pas faire comme eux; car votre Père sait bien ce qu'il vous faut, avant que vous le luidemandiez.	8 Be not you therefore like to them, for your Father knoweth what is needful for you, before you ask him.
9 "Vous donc, priez ainsi: Notre Père qui es dans les cieux, que ton Nom soit sanctifié,	9 Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
10 que ton Règne vienne, que ta Volonté soit faite sur la terre comme au ciel.	10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Donne-nous aujourd'hui notre pain quotidien.	11 Give us this day our supersubstantial bread.
12 Remets-nous nos dettes comme nous-mêmes avons remis à nos débiteurs.	12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
13 Et ne nous soumets pas à la tentation; mais délivre-nous du Mauvais.	13 And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.
14 "Oui, si vous remettez aux hommes leurs manquements, votre Père céleste vous remettra aussi;	14 For if you will forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father will forgive you also your offences.
15 mais si vous ne remettez pas aux hommes, votre Père non plus ne vous remettra pas vosmanquements.	15 But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offences.
16 "Quand vous jeûnez, ne vous donnez pas un air sombre comme font les hypocrites: ils prennentune mine défaite, pour que les hommes voient bien qu'ils jeûnent. En vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.	16 And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.
17 Pour toi, quand tu jeûnes, parfume ta tête et lave ton visage,	17 But thou, when thou fastest anoint thy head, and wash thy face;
18 pour que ton jeûne soit connu, non des hommes, mais de ton Père qui est là, dans le secret; et tonPère, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.	18 That thou appear not to men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret, will repay thee.
19 "Ne vous amassez point de trésors sur la terre, où la mite et le ver consument, où les voleurspercent et cambriolent.	19 Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and moth consume, and where thieves break through and steal.
20 Mais amassez-vous des trésors dans le ciel: là, point de mite ni de ver qui consument, point devoleurs qui perforent et cambriolent.	20 But lay up to yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither the rust nor moth doth consume, and where thieves do not break through, nor steal.
21 Car où est ton trésor, là sera aussi ton coeur.	21 For where thy treasure is, there is thy heart also.
22 "La lampe du corps, c'est l'oeil. Si donc ton oeil est sain, ton corps tout entier sera lumineux.	22 The light of thy body is thy eye. If thy eye be single, thy whole body shall be lightsome.
23 Mais si ton oeil est malade, ton corps tout entier sera ténébreux. Si donc la lumière qui est en toiest ténèbres, quelles ténèbres!	23 But if thy eye be evil thy whole body shall be darksome. If then the light that is in thee, be darkness: the darkness itself how great shall it be!
24 "Nul ne peut servir deux maîtres: ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un etméprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et l'Argent.	24 No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
25 "Voilà pourquoi je vous dis: Ne vous inquiétez pas pour votre vie de ce que vous mangerez, nipour votre corps de quoi vous le vêtirez. La vie n'est-elle pas plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que levêtement?	25 Therefore I say to you, be not solicitous for your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than the meat: and the body more than the raiment?
26 Regardez les oiseaux du ciel: ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent ni ne recueillent en des greniers, etvotre Père céleste les nourrit! Ne valez-vous pas plus qu'eux?	26 Behold the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns: and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not you of much more value than they?
27 Qui d'entre vous d'ailleurs peut, en s'en inquiétant, ajouter une seule coudée à la longueur de savie?	27 And which of you by taking thought, can add to his stature by one cubit?
28 Et du vêtement, pourquoi vous inquiéter? Observez les lis des champs, comme ils poussent: ils nepeinent ni ne filent.	28 And for raiment why are you solicitous? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they labour not, neither do they spin.
29 Or je vous dis que Salomon lui-même, dans toute sa gloire, n'a pas été vêtu comme l'un d'eux.	29 But I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these.
30 Que si Dieu habille de la sorte l'herbe des champs, qui est aujourd'hui et demain sera jetée aufour, ne fera-t-il pas bien plus pour vous, gens de peu de foi!	30 And if the grass of the field, which is to day, and to morrow is cast into the oven, God doth so clothe: how much more you, O ye of little faith?
31 Ne vous inquiétez donc pas en disant: Qu'allons-nous manger? Qu'allons-nous boire? De quoiallons-nous nous vêtir?	31 Be not solicitous therefore, saying, What shall we eat: or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we be clothed?
32 Ce sont là toutes choses dont les païens sont en quête. Or votre Père céleste sait que vous avezbesoin de tout cela.	32 For after all these things do the heathens seek. For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things.
33 Cherchez d'abord son Royaume et sa justice, et tout cela vous sera donné par surcroît.	33 Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Ne vous inquiétez donc pas du lendemain: demain s'inquiétera de lui-même. A chaque jour suffitsa peine.	34 Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.
