Livre de Jérémie 37

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Le roi Sédécias, fils de Josias, devint roi à la place de Konias, fils de Joiaqim: Nabuchodonosor,roi de Babylone, l'avait établi roi au pays de Juda.	1 Zedekiah son of Josiah became king, succeeding Coniah son of Jehoiakim. Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon had made him king of Judah.
2 Mais ni lui, ni ses serviteurs, ni le peuple du pays n'écoutèrent les paroles que Yahvé prononça parle ministère du prophète Jérémie.	2 But neither he nor his courtiers nor the people of the country paid any attention to the words Yahwehspoke through the prophet Jeremiah.
3 Le roi Sédécias envoya Yukal, fils de Shélémya, et le prêtre Cephanyahu, fils de Maaséya, vers leprophète Jérémie avec ce message: "Adresse donc une prière pour nous à Yahvé notre Dieu!"	3 King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to the prophetJeremiah with this message, 'Intercede for us with Yahweh our God.'
4 Or Jérémie allait et venait parmi le peuple: on ne l'avait pas encore mis en prison.	4 Now Jeremiah was still moving freely among the people: he had not yet been put in prison.
5 Cependant l'armée de Pharaon était sortie d'Egypte; à cette nouvelle, les Chaldéens quiassiégeaient Jérusalem avaient dû lever le siège.	5 Meanwhile Pharaoh's army was on the move from Egypt and the Chaldaeans besieging Jerusalem hadraised the siege when they heard the news.
6 Alors la parole de Yahvé fut adressée au prophète Jérémie en ces termes:	6 Then the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Jeremiah as fol ows,
7 Ainsi parle Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël. Au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyés vers moi pour me consulter,vous donnerez cette réponse: L'armée de Pharaon est sortie à votre secours? Elle va s'en retourner en son paysd'Egypte!	7 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the king of Judah who sent you to consult me make this reply: IsPharaoh's army marching to your aid? It wil withdraw to its own country, Egypt.
8 Les Chaldéens reviendront attaquer cette ville, la conquérir et y mettre le feu.	8 The Chaldaeans wil return to attack this city; they will capture it and burn it down.
9 Ainsi parle Yahvé. Ne vous abusez pas vous-mêmes en disant: "Les Chaldéens s'en iront pour debon de chez nous", car ils ne s'en iront pas!	9 Yahweh says this: Do not cheer yourselves up by thinking: The Chaldaeans are leaving us for good.They are not leaving.
10 Quand vous auriez taillé en pièces toute l'armée des Chaldéens en guerre contre vous et qu'il n'enrestât que des blessés, ils se dresseraient chacun sous sa tente pour mettre le feu à cette ville.	10 Even if you cut to pieces the whole Chaldaean army now fighting against you until there were only thewounded left, they would stand up again, each man in his tent, to burn this city down." '
11 A l'époque où l'armée des Chaldéens dut lever le siège de Jérusalem à cause de l'armée dePharaon,	11 At the time when the Chaldaean army, threatened by Pharaoh's army, had raised the siege ofJerusalem,
12 Jérémie sortit de Jérusalem pour aller au pays de Benjamin y toucher sa part au milieu de lapopulation.	12 Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem for the territory of Benjamin to see about a piece of his propertyamong the people there.
13 Comme il était à la porte de Benjamin, un nommé Yiréiyyaï, fils de Shélémya, fils de Hananya,chef du poste de garde, se trouvait là; il arrêta le prophète Jérémie en disant: "Tu passes aux Chaldéens!"	13 He was at the Benjamin Gate when the guard commander there, a certain Irijah son of Shelemiah,son of Hananiah, arrested the prophet Jeremiah, shouting, 'You are deserting to the Chaldaeans!'
14 Jérémie répondit: "C'est faux! Je ne passe pas aux Chaldéens!" Mais sans écouter Jérémie,Yiréiyyaï l'arrêta et le conduisit aux princes.	14 Jeremiah answered, 'It is a lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldaeans.' But Irijah would not listen toJeremiah and took him under arrest to the chief men.
15 Ceux-ci, furieux contre Jérémie, le frappèrent et le mirent au cachot, au domicile du scribeYehonatân, qu'on avait transformé en prison.	15 And the chief men, furious with Jeremiah, had him beaten and shut up in the house of the scribeJonathan, which had been turned into a prison.
16 Ainsi Jérémie fut mis dans un souterrain voûté et il y resta longtemps.	16 Thus Jeremiah found himself in an underground vault. And there for a long time he stayed.
17 Le roi Sédécias l'envoya chercher. Et secrètement, dans son palais, le roi lui demanda: "Y a-t-ilune parole de Yahvé?" Jérémie répondit: "Oui!" Et il ajouta: "Entre les mains du roi de Babylone, tu seras livré!"	17 Later, King Zedekiah had him sent for, and the king questioned him privately in his palace. 'Is thereany word from Yahweh?' he asked. 'There is,' Jeremiah answered, and added, 'you wil be handed over to theking of Babylon.'
18 Puis Jérémie dit au roi Sédécias: "En quoi ai-je péché contre toi, contre tes serviteurs ou contre cepeuple, que vous m'ayez mis en prison?	18 Jeremiah then said to King Zedekiah, 'What wrong have I done you, or your courtiers or this people,for you to have put me in prison?
19 Où donc sont vos prophètes qui vous annonçaient: Il ne viendra pas contre vous, le roi deBabylone, ni contre ce pays?	19 Where are your prophets now who prophesied, "The king of Babylon wil not attack you or thiscountry"?
20 Maintenant, Monseigneur le roi, daigne écouter, que ma supplication puisse te toucher: Ne mefais pas reconduire chez le scribe Yehonatân de peur que je n'y trouve la mort."	20 So now I beg you to hear me, my lord king! I beg you to approve my request! Do not have me takenback to the house of the scribe Jonathan, or I shall die there.'
21 Alors le roi Sédécias donna un ordre: on enferma Jérémie dans la cour de garde et on lui remitchaque jour une galette de pain, venant de la rue des boulangers, jusqu'à ce qu'il n'y eût plus de pain dans la ville.Ainsi Jérémie resta dans la cour de garde.	21 King Zedekiah then gave an order, and Jeremiah was confined in the Court of the Guard and given aloaf of bread a day from the Street of the Bakers as long as there was bread left in the city. So Jeremiah stayedin the Court of the Guard.
