1 Devenu vieux et rassasié de jours, David donna à son fils Salomon la royauté sur Israël.	1 When David had grown old and was near the end of his days, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.
2 Il réunit tous les officiers d'Israël, les prêtres et les lévites.	2 He then gathered together all the leaders of Israel, together with the priests and the Levites.
3 On recensa les lévites de 30 ans et plus. En les comptant tête par tête, on trouva 38.000hommes;	3 The Levites thirty years old and above were counted, and their total number was found to be thirty-eight thousand men.
4 24.000 d'entre eux présidaient aux offices de la maison de Yahvé, 6.000 étaient scribes etjuges,	4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were to direct the service of the house of the LORD, six thousand were to be officials and judges,
5 4.000 portiers, et 4.000 louaient Yahvé, avec les instruments que David avait faits à cetteintention.	5 four thousand were to be gatekeepers, and four thousand were to praise the LORD with the instruments which David had devised for praise.
6 Puis David répartit les lévites en classes: Gershôn, Qehat et Merari.	6 David divided them into classes according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7 Pour les Gershonites: Ladân et Shiméï.	7 To the Gershonites belonged Ladan and Shimei.
8 Fils de Ladân: Yehiel, le premier, Zétam, Yoël, trois en tout.	8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, then Zetham and Joel; three in all.
9 Fils de Shiméï: Shelomit, Haziel, Harân, trois en tout. Ce sont les chefs de famille de Ladân.	9 The sons of Shimei were Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran; three. These were the heads of the families of Ladan.
10 Fils de Shiméï: Yahat, Zina, Yéush, Béria; ce furent là les fils de Shiméï, quatre en tout.	10 The sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zizah, Jeush, and Beriah; these were the sons of Shimei, four in all.
11 Yahat était l'aîné, Ziza le second, puis Yéush et Béria qui n'eurent pas beaucoup d'enfants etfurent enregistrés en une seule famille.	11 Jahath was the chief and Zizah was second to him; but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons, and therefore they were classed as a single family, fulfilling a single office.
12 Fils de Qehat: Amram, Yiçhar, Hébrôn, Uzziel, quatre en tout.	12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel; four in all.
13 Fils de Amram: Aaron et Moïse. Aaron fut mis à part pour consacrer les choses très saintes,lui et ses fils à jamais, faire fumer l'encens devant Yahvé, le servir et bénir en son nom à jamais.	13 The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to be consecrated as most holy, he and his sons forever, to offer sacrifice before the LORD, to minister to him, and to bless his name forever.
14 Moïse fut un homme de Dieu dont les fils reçurent le nom de la tribu de Lévi.	14 As for Moses, however, the man of God, his sons were counted as part of the tribe of Levi.
15 Fils de Moïse: Gershom et Eliézer.	15 The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.
16 Fils de Gershom: Shebuel, le premier.	16 The sons of Gershom: Shubael the chief.
17 Il y eut des fils d'Eliézer: Rehabya, le premier. Eliézer n'eut pas d'autres fils, mais les fils deRehabya furent extrêmement nombreux.	17 The sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the chief--Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous.
18 Fils de Yiçhar: Shelomit le premier.	18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.
19 Fils de Hébrôn: Yeriyyahu le premier, Amarya le second, Yahaziel le troisième, Yeqaméamle quatrième.	19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah, the chief, Amariah, the second, Jahaziel, the third, and Jekameam, the fourth.
20 Fils d'Uzziel: Mika le premier, Yishshiyya le second.	20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah, the chief, and Isshiah, the second.
21 Fils de Merari: Mahli et Mushi. Fils de Mahli: Eléazar et Qish.	21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22 Eléazar mourut sans avoir de fils, mais des filles qu'enlevèrent les fils de Qish leurs frères.	22 Eleazar died leaving no sons, only daughters; the sons of Kish, their kinsmen, married them.
23 Fils de Mushi: Mahli, Eder, Yerémot, trois en tout.	23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth; three in all.
24 Tels étaient les fils de Lévi par familles, les chefs de maison et ceux qu'on recensaitnominativement, tête par tête; quiconque était âgé de vingt ans et plus était affecté au service de la maison deYahvé.	24 These were the sons of Levi according to their ancestral houses, the family heads as they were enrolled one by one according to their names. They performed the work of the service of the house of the LORD from twenty years of age upward,
25 Car David avait dit: "Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, a donné le repos à son peuple et il demeure pourtoujours à Jérusalem.	25 David said: "The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and has taken up his dwelling in Jerusalem.
26 Les lévites n'auront plus à transporter la Demeure et les objets destinés à son service."	26 Henceforth the Levites need not carry the Dwelling or any of its furnishings or equipment.
27 En effet, selon les dernières paroles de David, les lévites qui furent comptés étaient âgés devingt ans et plus.	27 for David's final orders were to enlist the Levites from the time they were twenty years old.
28 Ils sont chargés de se tenir sous les ordres des fils d'Aaron pour le service du Temple deYahvé dans les parvis et les salles, pour la purification de chaque chose consacrée; ils font le service du Templede Dieu.	28 Rather, their duty shall be to assist the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the LORD, having charge of the courts, the chambers, and the preservation of everything holy: they shall take part in the service of the house of God.
29 Ils sont aussi chargés du pain à disposer en rangées, de la fleur de farine destinée àl'oblation, des galettes sans levain, de celles qui étaient préparées à la plaque ou sous forme de mélange, et detoutes les mesures de capacité et de longueur.	29 They shall also have charge of the showbread, of the fine flour for the cereal offering, of the wafers of unleavened bread, and of the baking and mixing, and of all measures of quantity and size.
30 Ils ont à s'y tenir chaque matin pour célébrer et pour louer Yahvé, et de même le soir,	30 They must be present every morning to offer thanks and to praise the LORD, and likewise in the evening;
31 ainsi que pour toute offrande d'holocaustes à Yahvé lors des sabbats, des néoménies et dessolennités, selon le nombre fixé par la règle. Cette charge leur incombe en permanence devant Yahvé.	31 and at every offering of holocausts to the LORD on sabbaths, new moons, and feast days, in such numbers as are prescribed, they must always be present before the LORD.
32 Ils observent, au service du Temple de Yahvé, le rituel de la Tente du Rendez-vous, le ritueldu sanctuaire et le rituel des fils d'Aaron, leurs frères.	32 They shall observe what is prescribed for them concerning the meeting tent, the sanctuary, and the sons of Aaron, their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD."
