Deuxième livre des Rois 14

JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 En la deuxième année de Joas fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël, Amasias fils de Joas devint roi de Juda.	1 In the second year of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, began to reign.
2 Il avait 25 ans à son avènement et régna 29 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère s'appelait Yehoaddân et étaitde Jérusalem.	2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother, whose name was Jehoaddin, was from Jerusalem.
3 Il fit ce qui est agréable à Yahvé, non pas pourtant comme son ancêtre David; il imita en tout Joas,son père.	3 He pleased the LORD, yet not like his forefather David, since he did just as his father Joash had done.
4 Seulement, les hauts lieux ne disparurent pas et le peuple continuait d'offrir sacrifices et encens surles hauts lieux.	4 Thus the high places did not disappear, but the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense on them.
5 Lorsque le pouvoir royal fut affermi entre ses mains, il tua ceux de ses officiers qui avaient tué le roison père.	5 When Amaziah had the kingdom firmly in hand, he slew the officials who had murdered the king, his father.
6 Mais il ne mit pas à mort les fils des meurtriers, selon ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la Loi deMoïse, où Yahvé a ordonné: Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les fils, ni les fils pour les pères, maischacun sera mis à mort pour son propre crime.	6 But the children of the murderers he did not put to death, obeying the LORD'S command written in the book of the law of Moses, "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; each one shall die for his own sin."
7 C'est lui qui battit les Edomites dans la vallée du Sel, au nombre de 10.000 hommes, et qui prit dehaute lutte la Roche, il lui donna le nom de Yoqtéel, qu'elle porte jusqu'à ce jour.	7 Amaziah slew ten thousand Edomites in the Salt Valley, and took Sela in battle. He renamed it Joktheel, the name it has to this day.
8 Alors Amasias envoya des messagers à Joas fils de Joachaz fils de Jéhu, roi d'Israël, pour lui dire:"Viens et mesurons-nous!"	8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, with this challenge, "Come, let us meet face to face."
9 Joas, roi d'Israël, retourna ce message à Amasias, roi de Juda: "Le chardon du Liban manda ceci aucèdre du Liban: Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils, mais les bêtes sauvages du Liban passèrent et foulèrent lechardon.	9 King Jehoash of Israel sent this reply to the king of Judah: "The thistle of Lebanon sent word to the cedar of Lebanon, 'Give your daughter to my son in marriage,' but an animal of Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle underfoot.
10 Tu as remporté une victoire sur Edom et tu te montes la tête! Sois glorieux et reste chez toi.Pourquoi provoquer le malheur et amener ta chute et celle de Juda avec toi?"	10 You have indeed conquered Edom, and you have become ambitious. Enjoy your glory, but stay at home! Why involve yourself and Judah with you in misfortune and failure?"
11 Mais Amasias n'écouta pas, et Joas, roi d'Israël, se mit en campagne. Ils se mesurèrent, lui etAmasias, roi de Juda, à Bet-Shémesh qui appartient à Juda.	11 But Amaziah would not listen. King Jehoash of Israel then advanced, and he and King Amaziah of Judah met in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.
12 Juda fut battu devant Israël et chacun s'enfuit à sa tente.	12 Judah was defeated by Israel, and all the Judean soldiery fled homeward.
13 Quant au roi de Juda, Amasias fils de Joas fils d'Ochozias, le roi d'Israël Joas le fit prisonnier àBet-Shémesh et l'emmena à Jérusalem. Il fit une brèche au rempart de Jérusalem, depuis la porte d'Ephraïmjusqu'à la porte de l'Angle, sur 400 coudées.	13 King Jehoash of Israel captured Amaziah, son of Jehoash, son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh. He went on to Jerusalem where he tore down four hundred cubits of the city wall, from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate.
14 Il prit tout l'or et l'argent et tout le mobilier qui se trouvaient dans le Temple de Yahvé et dans letrésor du palais royal, en plus des otages, et retourna à Samarie.	14 He took all the gold and silver and all the utensils there were in the temple of the LORD and the treasuries of the palace, and hostages as well. Then he returned to Samaria.
15 Le reste de l'histoire de Joas, tout ce qu'il a fait et ses exploits, et comment il fit la guerre àAmasias, roi de Juda, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Annales des rois d'Israël?	15 The rest of the acts of Jehoash, his valor, and how he fought Amaziah, king of Judah, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
16 Joas se coucha avec ses pères et on l'enterra à Samarie auprès des rois d'Israël: Jéroboam, son fils,régna à sa place.	16 Jehoash rested with his ancestors; he was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. His son Jeroboam succeeded him as king.
17 Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut encore quinze ans après la mort de Joas, fils de Joachaz,roi d'Israël.	17 Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, survived Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, by fifteen years.
18 Le reste de l'histoire d'Amasias, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Annales des rois de Juda?	18 The rest of the acts of Amaziah are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
19 On trama un complot contre lui à Jérusalem, il s'enfuit vers Lakish, mais on le fit suivre à Lakish etmettre à mort là-bas.	19 When a conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem, he fled to Lachish. But he was pursued to Lachish and killed there.
20 On le transporta avec des chevaux et on l'enterra à Jérusalem auprès de ses pères, dans la Cité deDavid.	20 He was brought back on horses and buried with his ancestors in the City of David in Jerusalem.
21 Tout le peuple de Juda choisit Ozias, qui avait seize ans, et le fit roi à la place de son pèreAmasias.	21 Thereupon all the people of Judah took the sixteen-year-old Azariah and proclaimed him king to succeed his father Amaziah.
22 C'est lui qui rebâtit Elat et la rendit à Juda, après que le roi se fut couché avec ses pères.	22 It was Azariah who rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah, after King Amaziah rested with his ancestors.
23 En la quinzième année d'Amasias fils de Joas, roi de Juda, Jéroboam fils de Joas devint roi d'Israëlà Samarie; il régna 41 ans.	23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam, son of Joash, king of Israel, began his forty-one-year reign in Samaria.
24 Il fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé, il ne se détourna pas de tous les péchés de Jéroboam fils de Nebat, oùcelui-ci avait entraîné Israël.	24 He did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not desist from any of the sins which Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had caused Israel to commit.
25 C'est lui qui recouvra le territoire d'Israël, depuis l'Entrée de Hamat jusqu'à la mer de la Araba,selon ce que Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, avait dit par le ministère de son serviteur, le prophète Jonas fils d'Amittaï, quiétait de Gat-Hépher.	25 He restored the boundaries of Israel from Labo-of-Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had prophesied through his servant, the prophet Jonah, son of Amittai, from Gath-hepher.
26 Car Yahvé avait vu la très amère détresse d'Israël, plus de liés ni de libres et personne poursecourir Israël.	26 For the LORD saw the very bitter affliction of Israel, where there was neither slave nor freeman, no one at all to help Israel.
27 Yahvé n'avait pas décidé d'effacer le nom d'Israël de dessous le ciel et il le sauva par les mains deJéroboam fils de Joas.	27 Since the LORD had not determined to blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens, he saved them through Jeroboam, son of Joash.
28 Le reste de l'histoire de Jéroboam, tout ce qu'il a fait et ses exploits, comment il guerroya etcomment il fit revenir Damas et Hamat à Juda et à Israël, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Annales des roisd'Israël?	28 The rest of the acts of Jeroboam, his valor and all his accomplishments, how he fought with Damascus and turned back Hamath from Israel, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
29 Jéroboam se coucha avec ses pères. On l'enterra à Samarie auprès des rois d'Israël et son filsZacharie régna à sa place.	29 Jeroboam rested with his ancestors, the kings of Israel, and his son Zechariah succeeded him as king.
