JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Alors Salomon convoqua les anciens d'Israël à Jérusalem pour faire monter de la Cité de David, quiest Sion, l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé.	1 Solomon then summoned the elders of Israel to Jerusalem to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahwehup from the City of David, that is, Zion.
2 Tous les hommes d'Israël se rassemblèrent auprès du roi Salomon, au mois d'Etanim, pendant la fête(c'est le septième mois),	2 Al the men of Israel assembled round King Solomon in the month of Ethanim, at the time of the feast(that is, the seventh month).
3 et les prêtres portèrent l'arche	3 When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark
4 et la Tente du Rendez-vous avec tous les objets sacrés qui y étaient.	4 and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred utensils which were in the Tent.
5 Le roi Salomon et tout Israël avec lui sacrifièrent devant l'arche moutons et boeufs en quantitéinnombrable et incalculable.	5 King Solomon and al Israel, present with him before the ark, sacrificed countless, innumerable sheepand oxen.
6 Les prêtres apportèrent l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé à sa place, au Debir du Temple, c'est-à-dire auSaint des Saints, sous les ailes des chérubins.	6 The priests brought the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, in the Debir of the Temple, that is, inthe Holy of Holies, under the wings of the winged creatures
7 En effet, les chérubins étendaient leurs ailes au-dessus de l'emplacement de l'arche et faisaient un abriau-dessus de l'arche et de ses barres.	7 for the winged creatures spread their wings over the place where the ark stood, forming a canopy overthe ark and its shafts.
8 Celles-ci étaient assez longues pour qu'on vît leur extrémité depuis le Saint devant le Debir, mais pasen dehors de là. Elles y sont restées jusqu'à ce jour.	8 These were so long, however, that the ends of the shafts could be seen from the Holy Place in front ofthe Debir, though they could not be seen from outside. They are stil there today.
9 Il n'y avait rien dans l'arche, sauf les deux tables de pierre que Moïse y déposa à l'Horeb, les tables del'alliance que Yahvé avait conclue avec les Israélites à leur sortie de la terre d'Egypte;	9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses had placed in it at Horeb, thetablets of the covenant which Yahweh made with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.
10 Or quand les prêtres sortirent du sanctuaire, la nuée remplit le Temple de Yahvé	10 Now when the priests came out of the Holy Place, the cloud fil ed the Temple of Yahweh,
11 et les prêtres ne purent pas continuer leur fonction, à cause de la nuée: la gloire de Yahvéremplissait le Temple de Yahvé!	11 and because of the cloud the priests could not stay and perform their duties. For the glory of Yahwehfilled the Temple of Yahweh.
12 Alors Salomon dit: "Yahvé a décidé d'habiter la nuée obscure.	12 Then Solomon said: Yahweh has chosen to dwel in thick cloud.
13 Oui, je t'ai construit une demeure princière, une résidence où tu habites à jamais."	13 I have built you a princely dwel ing, a residence for you for ever.
14 Puis le roi se retourna et bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et toute l'assemblée d'Israël se tenaitdebout.	14 The king then turned round and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while the whole assembly ofIsrael stood.
15 Il dit: "Béni soit Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, qui a accompli de sa main ce qu'il avait promis de sa boucheà mon père David en ces termes:	15 He said, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who has carried out by his hand what he promised withhis mouth to my father David, when he said,
16 Depuis le jour où j'ai fait sortir d'Egypte mon peuple Israël, je n'ai pas choisi de ville, dans toutes lestribus d'Israël, pour qu'on y bâtît une maison où serait mon Nom, mais j'ai choisi David pour qu'il commandât àmon peuple Israël.	16 "From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt I chose no city, in any of the tribes of Israel, tohave a temple built where my name should be; but I did choose David to rule my people Israel."
17 Mon père David eut dans l'esprit de bâtir une maison pour le Nom de Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël,	17 My father David had set his heart on building a temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,
18 mais Yahvé dit à mon père David: Tu as eu dans l'esprit de bâtir une maison pour mon Nom, et tu asbien fait.	18 but Yahweh said to my father David, "You have set your heart on building a temple for my name, andin this you have done wel ;
19 Seulement, ce n'est pas toi qui bâtiras cette maison, c'est ton fils, issu de tes reins, qui bâtira lamaison pour mon Nom.	19 and yet, you are not the man to build the temple; but your son, yet to be born to you, wil be the one tobuild the temple for my name."
20 Yahvé a réalisé la parole qu'il avait dite: j'ai succédé à mon père David et je me suis assis sur letrône d'Israël comme avait dit Yahvé, j'ai construit la maison pour le Nom de Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël,	20 Yahweh has kept the promise which he made: I have succeeded my father David and am seated onthe throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised; I have built the temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,
21 et j'y ai fixé un emplacement pour l'arche, où est l'alliance que Yahvé a conclue avec nos pèreslorsqu'il les fit sortir du pays d'Egypte."	21 and in it I have made a place for the ark containing the covenant of Yahweh which he made with ourancestors when he brought them out of Egypt.'
22 Puis Salomon se tint devant l'autel de Yahvé, en présence de toute l'assemblée d'Israël; il étendit lesmains vers le ciel	22 Then, in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, Solomon stood facing the altar of Yahweh and,stretching out his hands towards heaven,
23 et dit: "Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël! il n'y a aucun Dieu pareil à toi là-haut dans les cieux ni ici-bas sur laterre, toi qui es fidèle à l'alliance et gardes la bienveillance à l'égard de tes serviteurs, quand ils marchent de toutleur coeur devant toi.	23 said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven above or on earth beneath, as loyal tothe covenant and faithful in love to your servants as long as they walk wholeheartedly in your way.
24 Tu as tenu à ton serviteur David, mon père, la promesse que tu lui avais faite, et ce que tu avais ditde ta bouche, tu l'as accompli aujourd'hui de ta main.	24 You have kept the promise you made to your servant, my father David, as you promised him youwould. Today you have carried it out by your power.
25 Et maintenant, Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, tiens à ton serviteur David, mon père, la promesse que tu lui asfaite, quand tu as dit: Tu ne seras jamais dépourvu d'un descendant qui soit devant moi, assis sur le trône d'Israël,à condition que tes fils veillent à leur conduite et marchent devant moi comme tu as marché toi-même devantmoi.	25 And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep the promise which you made to your servant David when yousaid, "You wil never lack for a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, provided that your sons are carefulhow they behave, walking before me as you yourself have done."
26 Maintenant donc, Dieu d'Israël, que se vérifie la parole que tu as dite à ton serviteur David, monpère!	26 So now, God of Israel, let the words come true which you spoke to your servant, my father David.
27 Mais Dieu habiterait-il vraiment avec les hommes sur la terre? Voici que les cieux et les cieux descieux ne le peuvent contenir, moins encore cette maison que j'ai construite!	27 Yet wil God real y live with human beings on earth? Why, the heavens, the highest of the heavens,cannot contain you. How much less this temple built by me!
28 Sois attentif à la prière et à la supplication de ton serviteur, Yahvé, mon Dieu, écoute l'appel et laprière que ton serviteur fait aujourd'hui devant toi!	28 Even so, listen favourably to the prayer and entreaty of your servant, Yahweh my God; listen to the cryand to the prayer which your servant makes to you today:
29 Que tes yeux soient ouverts jour et nuit sur cette maison, sur ce lieu dont tu as dit: Mon Nom seralà, écoute la prière que ton serviteur fera en ce lieu.	29 day and night may your eyes watch over this temple, over this place of which you have said, "My namewil be there." Listen to the prayer which your servant offers in this place.
30 "Ecoute la supplication de ton serviteur et de ton peuple Israël lorsqu'ils prieront en ce lieu. Toi,écoute du lieu où tu résides, au ciel, écoute et pardonne.	30 'Listen to the entreaty of your servant and of your people Israel; whenever they pray in this place, listenfrom the place where you reside in heaven; and when you hear, forgive.
31 "Supposé qu'un homme pèche contre son prochain et que celui-ci prononce sur lui un sermentimprécatoire et le fasse jurer devant ton autel dans ce Temple,	31 'If someone has wronged his neighbour and a curse is laid on him to make him swear an oath herebefore your altar in this Temple,
32 toi, écoute au ciel et agis; juge entre tes serviteurs: déclare coupable le méchant en faisant retombersa conduite sur sa tête, et justifie l'innocent en lui rendant selon sa justice.	32 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and do justice between your servants:condemning the guilty one by making him suffer for his conduct, and acquitting the upright by rewarding him ashis uprightness deserves.
33 "Quand ton peuple Israël sera battu devant l'ennemi, parce qu'il aura péché contre toi, s'il revient àtoi, loue ton Nom, prie et supplie vers toi dans ce Temple,	33 'When your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against you, but thenreturn to you and acknowledge your name, and pray and seek your favours in this Temple,
34 toi, écoute au ciel, pardonne le péché de ton peuple Israël et ramène-le dans le pays que tu as donnéà ses pères.	34 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bringthem back to the country which you gave to their ancestors.
35 "Quand le ciel sera fermé et qu'il n'y aura pas de pluie parce qu'ils auront péché contre toi, s'ilsprient en ce lieu, louent ton Nom et se repentent de leur péché, parce que tu les auras humiliés,	35 'When the heavens are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray inthis place and praise your name and, having been humbled by you, desist from their sin,
36 toi, écoute au ciel, pardonne le péché de ton serviteur et de ton peuple Israël -- tu leur indiqueras labonne voie qu'ils doivent suivre -- et arrose de pluie ta terre, que tu as donnée en héritage à ton peuple.	36 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and forgive the sin of your servant and yourpeople Israel -- for you are constantly showing them the good way which they must fol ow -- and send rain onyour country, which you have given to your people as their heritage.
37 "Quand le pays subira la famine, la peste, la rouille ou la nielle, quand surviendront les sauterellesou les criquets, quand l'ennemi de ce peuple assiégera l'une de ses portes, quand il y aura n'importe quel fléau ouépidémie,	37 'Should there be famine in the country, or pestilence, wind-blast or mildew, locust or caterpil ar; shouldtheir enemy lay siege to one of their gates; should there be any plague or any disease:
38 quelle que soit la prière ou la supplication de quiconque, éprouve le remords de sa propreconscience, s'il étend les mains vers ce Temple,	38 whatever be the prayer or entreaty of any individual aware of a particular affliction: when that personstretches out the hands towards this Temple,
39 toi, écoute au ciel, où tu résides, pardonne et agis; rends à chaque homme selon sa conduite, puisquetu connais son coeur -- tu es le seul à connaître le coeur de tous --,	39 then listen from heaven where you reside; forgive and, since you know what is in the heart, deal witheach as their conduct deserves -- for you alone know what is in every human heart-
40 en sorte qu'ils te craignent tous les jours qu'ils vivront sur la terre que tu as donnée à nos pères.	40 so that they may reverence you throughout their lives in the country which you gave to our ancestors.
41 "Même l'étranger qui n'est pas d'Israël ton peuple, s'il vient d'un pays lointain à cause de ton Nom --	41 'Even the foreigner, not belonging to your people Israel but coming from a distant country, attracted byyour name-
42 car on entendra parler de ton grand Nom, de ta main forte et de ton bras étendu --, s'il vient et prieen ce Temple,	42 for they too wil hear of your name, of your mighty hand and outstretched arm -- if a foreigner comesand prays in this Temple,
43 toi, écoute-le au ciel, où tu résides, exauce toutes les demandes de l'étranger afin que tous lespeuples de la terre reconnaissent ton Nom et te craignent comme fait ton peuple Israël, et qu'ils sachent que ceTemple que j'ai bâti porte ton nom.	43 listen from heaven where you reside, and grant al that the foreigner asks of you, so that al the peoplesof the earth may acknowledge your name and, like your people Israel, revere you and know that this Temple,which I have built, bears your name.
44 "Si ton peuple part en guerre contre ses ennemis par le chemin où tu l'auras envoyé et s'il prieYahvé, tourné vers la ville que tu as choisie et vers le Temple que j'ai construit pour ton Nom,	44 'If your people go out to war against the enemy, on whatever missions you send them, and they pray toYahweh, turning towards the city which you have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for yourname,
45 écoute au ciel sa prière et sa supplication et fais-lui justice.	45 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their entreaty, and uphold their cause.
46 "Quand ils pécheront contre toi -- car il n'y a aucun homme qui ne pèche --, quand tu seras irritécontre eux, que tu les livreras à l'ennemi et que leurs conquérants les emmèneront captifs dans un pays ennemi,lointain ou proche,	46 'When they sin against you -- for there is no one who does not sin -- and you are angry with them andabandon them to the enemy, and their captors carry them off to a hostile country, be it far away or near,
47 s'ils rentrent en eux-mêmes dans le pays où ils auront été déportés, s'ils se repentent et te supplientdans le pays de leurs conquérants en disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons mal agi, nous nous sommes pervertis,	47 if they come to their senses in the country to which they have been taken as captives and repent andentreat you in the country of their captors, saying, "We have sinned, we have acted perversely and wickedly,"
48 s'ils reviennent à toi de tout leur coeur et de toute leur âme dans le pays des ennemis qui les aurontdéportés, et s'ils te prient tournés vers le pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, vers la ville que tu as choisie et leTemple que j'ai bâti pour ton Nom,	48 and turn back to you with al their heart and soul in the country of the enemies who have taken themcaptive, and pray to you, turning towards the country which you gave to their ancestors, towards the city whichyou have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for your name,
49 écoute au ciel où tu résides,	49 listen to their prayer and their entreaty from the place where you reside in heaven, uphold their case,
50 pardonne à ton peuple les péchés qu'il a commis envers toi et toutes les rébellions dont ils furentcoupables, fais-leur trouver grâce devant leurs conquérants, que ceux-ci aient pitié d'eux;	50 forgive your people for having sinned against you and for al the crimes against you of which they havebeen guilty, and allow them to arouse the pity of their captors so that these may have pity on them:
51 car ils sont ton peuple et ton héritage, ceux que tu as fait sortir d'Egypte, cette fournaise pour le fer.	51 for they are your people and your heritage whom you brought out of Egypt, that iron foundry!
52 "Que tes yeux soient ouverts sur la supplication de ton serviteur et de ton peuple Israël, pour écoutertous les appels qu'ils lanceront vers toi.	52 'May your eyes be open to the entreaty of your servant and the entreaty of your people Israel, to listento them, whatever they ask of you.
53 Car c'est toi qui les as mis à part comme ton héritage, parmi tous les peuples de la terre, ainsi que tul'as déclaré par le ministère de ton serviteur Moïse, quand tu as fait sortir nos pères d'Egypte, Seigneur Yahvé!"	53 For you it was who set them apart from al the peoples of the earth to be your heritage, as you declaredthrough your servant Moses when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt, Lord Yahweh.'
54 Quand Salomon eut achevé d'adresser à Yahvé toute cette prière et cette supplication, il se releva del'endroit où il était agenouillé, les mains étendues vers le ciel, devant l'autel de Yahvé,	54 When Solomon had finished offering to Yahweh this whole prayer and entreaty, he rose from where hewas kneeling with hands stretched out towards heaven before the altar of Yahweh,
55 et se tint debout. Il bénit à haute voix toute l'assemblée d'Israël:	55 and stood upright. And in a loud voice he blessed the whole assembly of Israel.
56 "Béni soit Yahvé, dit-il, qui a accordé le repos à son peuple Israël, selon toutes ses promesses; detoutes les bonnes paroles qu'il a dites par le ministère de son serviteur Moïse, aucune n'a failli.	56 'Blessed be Yahweh,' he said, 'who has granted rest to his people Israel, keeping al his promises. Ofal the promises of good that he made through his servant Moses, not one has failed.
57 Que Yahvé notre Dieu soit avec nous, comme il fut avec nos pères, qu'il ne nous abandonne pas etne nous rejette pas!	57 May Yahweh our God be with us, as he was with our ancestors; may he never desert us or cast us off.
58 Qu'il incline nos coeurs vers lui, pour que nous suivions toutes ses voies et gardions lescommandements, les lois et les ordonnances qu'il a donnés à nos pères.	58 May he turn our hearts towards him so that we may fol ow al his ways and keep the commandmentsand laws and ordinances which he gave to our ancestors.
59 Puissent ces paroles que j'ai dites en suppliant devant Yahvé rester présentes jour et nuit à Yahvénotre Dieu, pour qu'il rende justice à son serviteur et justice à son peuple Israël, selon les besoins de chaque jour;	59 May these words of mine, of my entreaty before Yahweh, be present with Yahweh our God day andnight, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of Israel his people, as each day requires,
60 tous les peuples de la terre sauront alors que Yahvé seul est Dieu, qu'il n'y en a point d'autre,	60 so that al the peoples of the earth may come to know that Yahweh is God indeed and that there is noother.
61 et votre coeur sera tout entier à Yahvé, notre Dieu, observant ses lois et gardant sescommandements comme maintenant."	61 May your hearts be wholly with Yahweh our God, fol owing his laws and keeping his commandmentsas at this present day.'
62 Le roi et tout Israël avec lui sacrifièrent devant Yahvé.	62 The king and al Israel with him offered sacrifice before Yahweh.
63 Comme sacrifices de communion qu'il présenta à Yahvé, Salomon offrit 22.000 boeufs et 120.000moutons, et le roi et tous les Israélites dédièrent le Temple de Yahvé.	63 Solomon offered a communion sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twentythousand sheep to Yahweh; and thus the king and all the Israelites dedicated the Temple of Yahweh.
64 En ce jour, le roi consacra le milieu de la cour qui est devant le Temple de Yahvé; c'est là qu'il offritl'holocauste, l'oblation et les graisses des sacrifices de communion, parce que l'autel de bronze qui était devantYahvé était trop petit pour contenir l'holocauste, l'oblation et les graisses des sacrifices de communion.	64 On the same day the king consecrated the middle part of the court in front of the Temple of Yahweh;for that was where he presented the burnt offerings, oblations and fatty parts of the communion sacrifices, since the bronze altar which stood before Yahweh was too smal to hold the burnt offering, oblation and the fatty partsof the communion sacrifice.
65 En ce temps-là, Salomon célébra la fête, et tous les Israélites avec lui, un grand rassemblementdepuis l'Entrée de Hamat jusqu'au Torrent d'Egypte, devant Yahvé notre Dieu, pendant sept jours.	65 And then Solomon and with him all Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Torrent of Egypt -- a greatassembly -- celebrated the feast before Yahweh our God for seven days.
66 Puis, le huitième jour, il congédia les gens; ils bénirent le roi et s'en allèrent chacun chez soi, joyeuxet le coeur content de tout le bien que Yahvé avait fait à son serviteur David et à son peuple Israël.	66 On the eighth day he dismissed the people, who bade farewel to the king and went home joyful andhappy of heart over al the goodness which Yahweh had shown to his servant and his people Israel.
