JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Lorsque le fils deSaül apprit qu'Abner était mort à Hébron, les mains lui tombèrent et tout Israël fut consterné.	1 When Saul's son heard that Abner had died at Hebron, his heart failed him, and al Israel was alarmed.
2 Or le fils de Saül avait deux chefs de bandes, qui s'appelaient l'un Baana et le second Rékab. Ilsétaient les fils de Rimmôn de Béérot et Benjaminites, car Béérot aussi est attribuée à Benjamin.	2 Now, Saul's son had two freebooting chieftains; one was cal ed Baanah, the other Rechab. They werethe sons of Rimmon of Beeroth, and Benjaminites -- for Beeroth is regarded as belonging to Benjamin.
3 Les gens de Béérot s'étaient réfugiés à Gittayim, où ils sont demeurés jusqu'à ce jour commerésidents étrangers.	3 The people of Beeroth had taken refuge in Gittaim, where they have remained to this day as residentforeigners.
4 Il y avait un fils de Jonathan, fils de Saül, qui était perclus des deux pieds. Il avait cinq anslorsqu'arriva de Yizréel la nouvelle concernant Saül et Jonathan. Sa nourrice l'emporta et s'enfuit, mais dans laprécipitation de la fuite, l'enfant tomba et s'estropia. Il s'appelait Meribbaal.	4 Jonathan son of Saul had a son with crippled feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul andJonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled but, as she hurried away, he fel and was lamed.His name was Meribbaal.
5 Les fils de Rimmôn de Béérot, Rékab et Baana, s'étant mis en route, arrivèrent à l'heure la pluschaude du jour à la maison d'Ishbaal, quand celui-ci faisait la sieste.	5 The sons of Rimmon of Beeroth, Rechab and Baanah, set out; they came to Ishbaal's house at thehottest part of the day when he was taking his midday rest.
6 La portière, qui mondait du blé, s'était assoupie et dormait. Rékab et son frère Baana se faufilèrent	6 The woman who kept the door had been cleaning wheat and had drowsed off to sleep.
7 et entrèrent dans la maison, où il était étendu sur le lit dans sa chambre à coucher. Ils le frappèrentà mort et le décapitèrent, puis, emportant sa tête, ils marchèrent toute la nuit par la route de la Araba.	7 Rechab and his brother Baanah stole past her and entered the house, where he was lying on his bed inhis bedroom. They struck him and kil ed him, then cut off his head and, taking the head with them, travel ed alnight by way of the Arabah.
8 Ils apportèrent la tête d'Ishbaal à David, à Hébron, et dirent au roi: "Voici la tête d'Ishbaal, fils deSaül, ton ennemi qui en voulait à ta vie. Yahvé a accordé aujourd'hui à Monseigneur le roi une vengeance surSaül et sur sa race."	8 They brought Ishbaal's head to David at Hebron. 'Here', they said to the king, 'is the head of Ishbaalson of Saul, your enemy, who meant to take your life. Yahweh has avenged my lord the king today on Saul andon his offspring.'
9 Mais David, s'adressant à Rékab et à son frère Baana, les fils de Rimmôn de Béérot, leur dit: "Parla vie de Yahvé, qui m'a délivré de toute détresse!	9 But David answered Rechab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon, by saying, 'As Yahwehlives, who has rescued me from every danger,
10 Celui qui m'a annoncé la mort de Saül croyait être porteur d'une bonne nouvelle, et je l'ai saisi etexécuté à Ciqlag, pour le payer de sa bonne nouvelle!	10 when someone told me, "Saul is dead!" supposing himself to be bringing me good news, I seized andput him to death at Ziklag, and that was how I rewarded him for his news!
11 A plus forte raison lorsque des bandits ont tué un homme honnête dans sa maison, sur son lit! Nedois-je pas vous demander compte de son sang et vous faire disparaître de la terre?"	11 How much more when bandits have kil ed an upright man in his house, and on his bed! Am I not todemand an account of his blood from you, and rid the earth of you?'
12 Alors David donna un ordre aux cadets et ceux-ci les mirent à mort. On leur coupa les mains etles pieds et on les suspendit près de l'étang d'Hébron. Quant à la tête d'Ishbaal, on la prit et on l'ensevelit dans letombeau d'Abner à Hébron.	12 David then gave an order to the men, who put them to death, cut off their hands and feet, and hungthem up beside the pool of Hebron. Ishbaal's head they took and buried in Abner's grave at Hebron.
