Deuxième livre de Samuel 24

JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma encore contre les Israélites et il excita David contre eux: "Va, dit-il, fais le dénombrement d'Israël et de Juda."	1 And the anger of the Lord was again kindled against Israel, and stirred up David among them, saying: Go, number Israel and Juda.
2 Le roi dit à Joab et aux chefs de l'armée qui étaient avec lui: "Parcourez donc toutes les tribusd'Israël, de Dan à Bersabée, et faites le recensement du peuple afin que je sache le chiffre de la population."	2 And the king said to Joab the general of his army: Go through all the tribes of Israel from Dan to Bersabee, and number ye the people that I may know the number of them.
3 Joab répondit au roi: "Que Yahvé ton Dieu accroisse le peuple de cent fois autant, pendant queMonseigneur le roi peut le voir de ses yeux, mais pourquoi Monseigneur le roi aurait-il ce désir?"	3 And Joab said to the king: The Lord thy God increase thy people, and make them as many more as they are now, and again multiply them a hundredfold in the sight of my lord the king: but what meaneth my lord the king by this kind of thing?
4 Cependant l'ordre du roi s'imposa à Joab et aux chefs de l'armée, et Joab et les chefs de l'arméequittèrent la présence du roi pour recenser le peuple d'Israël.	4 But the king's words prevailed over the words of Joab, and of the captains of the army: and Joab, and the captains of the soldiers went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
5 Ils passèrent le Jourdain et commencèrent par Aroër et la ville qui est au milieu de la vallée,allèrent chez les Gadites et vers Yazèr.	5 And when they had passed the Jordan, they came to Aroer to the right side of the city, which is in the vale of Gad.
6 Puis ils allèrent en Galaad et au pays des Hivvites, à Qadesh, ils se rendirent à Dan et de Dan ilsobliquèrent vers Sidon.	6 And by Jazer they passed into Galaad, and to the lower land of Hodsi, and they came into the woodlands of Dan. And going about by Sidon,
7 Puis ils atteignirent la forteresse de Tyr et toutes les villes des Hittites et des Cananéens etaboutirent au Négeb de Juda, à Bersabée.	7 They passed near the walls of Tyre, and all the land of the Hevite, and the Chanaanite, and they came to the south of Juda into Bersabee:
8 Ayant parcouru tout le pays, ils rentrèrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et vingt jours.	8 And having gone through the whole land, after nine months and twenty days, they came to Jerusalem.
9 Joab donna au roi le chiffre obtenu pour le recensement du peuple: Israël comptait 800.000hommes d'armes tirant l'épée, et Juda 500.000 hommes.	9 And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people to the king, and there were found of Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword: and of Juda five hundred thousand fighting men.
10 Après cela le coeur de David lui battit d'avoir recensé le peuple et David dit à Yahvé: "C'est ungrand péché que j'ai commis! Maintenant, Yahvé, veuille pardonner cette faute à ton serviteur, car j'ai commisune grande folie."	10 But David's heart struck him, after the people were numbered: and David said to the Lord: I have sinned very much in what I have done: but I pray thee, O Lord, to take away the iniquity of thy servant, because I have done exceeding foolishly.
11 Quand David se leva le lendemain matin -- cette parole de Yahvé avait été adressée au prophèteGad, le voyant de David:	11 And David arose in the morning, and the word of the Lord came to Gad the prophet and the seer of David, saying:
12 "Va dire à David: Ainsi parle Yahvé. Je te propose trois choses, choisis-en une et je l'exécuteraipour toi" --	12 Go, and say to David: Thus saith the Lord: I give thee thy choice of three things, choose one of them which thou wilt, that I may do it to thee.
13 Donc Gad se rendit chez David et lui notifia ceci: "Faut-il que t'adviennent trois années defamine dans ton pays, ou que tu fuies pendant trois mois devant ton ennemi qui te poursuivra, ou qu'il y aitpendant trois jours la peste dans ton pays? Maintenant réfléchis et vois ce que je dois répondre à celui quim'envoie!"	13 And when Gad was come to David, he told him, saying: Either seven years of famine shall come to thee in thy land: or thou shalt flee three months before thy adversaries, and they shall pursue thee: or for three days there shall be a pestilence in thy land. Now therefore deliberate, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
14 David dit à Gad: "Je suis dans une grande anxiété... Ah! tombons entre les mains de Yahvé carsa miséricorde est grande, mais que je ne tombe pas entre les mains des hommes!"	14 And David said to Gad: I am in a great strait: but it is better that I should fall into the hands of the Lord (for his mercies are many) than into the hands of men.
15 David choisit donc la peste. C'était le temps de la moisson des blés. Yahvé envoya la peste enIsraël depuis le matin jusqu'au temps fixé, le fléau frappa le peuple et 70.000 hommes du peuple moururentdepuis Dan jusqu'à Bersabée.	15 And the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel, from the morning unto the time appointed, and there died of the people from Dan to Bersabee seventy thousand men.
16 L'ange étendit sa main vers Jérusalem pour l'exterminer, mais Yahvé se repentit de ce mal et ildit à l'ange qui exterminait le peuple: "Assez! retire à présent ta main." L'ange de Yahvé se trouvait près de l'aired'Arauna le Jébuséen.	16 And when the angel of the Lord had stretched out his hand over Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord had pity on the affliction, and said to the angel that slew the people: It is enough: now hold thy hand. And the angel of the Lord was by the thrashingfloor of Areuna the Jebusite.
17 Quand David vit l'ange qui frappait le peuple, il dit à Yahvé: "C'est moi qui ai péché, c'est moiqui ai commis le mal, mais ceux-là, c'est le troupeau, qu'ont-ils fait? Que ta main s'appesantisse donc sur moi etsur ma famille!"	17 And David said to the Lord, when he saw the angel striking the people: It is I; I am he that have sinned, I have done wickedly: these that are the sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I beseech thee, be turned against me, and against my father's house.
18 Ce jour-là, Gad se rendit auprès de David et lui dit: "Monte et élève un autel à Yahvé sur l'aired'Arauna le Jébuséen."	18 And Gad came to David that day, and said: Go up, and build an altar to the Lord in the thrashingfloor of Areuna the Jebusite.
19 David monta donc, suivant la parole de Gad, comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné.	19 And David went up according to the word of Gad which the Lord had commanded him.
20 Arauna regarda et vit le roi et ses officiers qui s'avançaient vers lui. -- Arauna était en train debattre le froment. -- Il sortit et se prosterna devant le roi, la face contre terre.	20 And Areuna looked, and saw the king and his servants coming towards him:
21 Arauna dit: "Pourquoi Monseigneur le roi est-il venu chez son serviteur?" Et David répondit:"Pour acquérir de toi cette aire, afin de construire un autel à Yahvé. Ainsi le fléau s'écartera du peuple."	21 An going out he worshipped the king, bowing with his face to the earth, and said: Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? Arid David said to him: To buy the thrashingfloor of thee, and build an altar to the Lord, that the plague, which rageth among the people, may cease.
22 Arauna dit alors au roi: "Que Monseigneur le roi la prenne et qu'il offre ce qui lui semble bon!Voici les boeufs pour l'holocauste, le traîneau et le joug des boeufs pour le bois.	22 And Areuna said to David: Let my lord the king take, and offer, as it seemeth good to him: thou hast here oxen for a holocaust, and the wain, and the yokes of the oxen for wood.
23 Le serviteur de Monseigneur le roi donne tout au roi!" Et Arauna dit au roi: "Que Yahvé tonDieu agrée ton offrande!"	23 All these things Areuna as a king gave to the king: and Areuna said to the king: The Lord thy God receive thy vow.
24 Mais le roi dit à Arauna: "Non pas! Je veux te l'acheter en payant, je ne veux pas offrir à Yahvémon Dieu des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien." Et David acheta l'aire et les boeufs pour de l'argent, 50 sicles.	24 And the king answered him, and said: Nay, but I will buy it of thee at a price, and I will not offer to the Lord my God holocausts free cost. So David bought the floor, and the oxen, for fifty sicles of silver:
25 David construisit là un autel à Yahvé et il offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices de communion.Alors Yahvé eut pitié du pays et le fléau s'écarta d'Israël.	25 And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered holocausts and peace offerings: and the Lord became merciful to the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
