Unto the end, a psalm for David. | 1 [Psalm Of David] Yahweh, I am cal ing, hurry to me, listen to my voice when I cal to you. |
Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: rescue me from the unjust man. | 2 May my prayer be like incense in your presence, my uplifted hands like the evening sacrifice. |
Who have devised iniquities in their hearts: all the day long they designed battles. | 3 Yahweh, mount a guard over my mouth, a guard at the door of my lips. |
They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent: the venom of saps is under their lips. | 4 Check any impulse to speak evil, to share the foul deeds of evil-doers. I shal not sample theirdelights! |
Keep me, O Lord, from the hand of the wicked: and from unjust men deliver me. Who have proposed to supplant my steps. | 5 May the upright correct me with a friend's rebuke; but the wicked shal never anoint my head with oil,for that would make me party to their crimes. |
the proud have hidden a net for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare: they have laid for me a stumblingblock by the wayside. | 6 They are delivered into the power of the rock, their judge, those who took pleasure in hearing mesay, |
I said to the Lord: Thou art my God: hear, O Lord, the voice of my supplication. | 7 'Like a shattered mil stone on the ground our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol.' |
O Lord, Lord, the strength of my salvation: thou hast overshadowed my head in the day of battle. | 8 To you, Yahweh, I turn my eyes, in you I take refuge, do not leave me unprotected. |
Give me not up, O Lord, from my desire to the wicked: they have plotted against me; do not thou forsake me, lest they should triumph. | 9 Save me from the traps that are set for me, the snares of evil-doers. |
The head of them compassing me about: the labour of their lips shall overwhelm them. | 10 Let the wicked fal each into his own net, while I pass on my way. |
Burning coals shall fall upon them; thou wilt cast them down into the fire: in miseries they shall not be able to stand.
A man full of tongue shall not be established in the earth: evil shall catch the unjust man unto destruction.
I know that the Lord will do justice to the needy, and will revenge the poor.
But as for the just, they shall give glory to thy name: and the upright shall dwell with thy countenance. |
