1 Jesús, lleno del Espíritu Santo, regresó de las orillas del Jordán y fue conducido por el Espíritu al desierto,	1 And Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan. And he was urged by the Spirit into the wilderness
2 donde fue tentado por el demonio durante cuarenta días. No comió nada durante esos días, y al cabo de ellos tuvo hambre.	2 for forty days, and he was tested by the devil. And he ate nothing in those days. And when they were completed, he was hungry.
3 El demonio le dijo entonces: «Si tú eres Hijo de Dios, manda a esta piedra que se convierta en pan».	3 Then the devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, speak to this stone, so that it may be made into bread.”
4 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Dice la Escritura: "El hombre no vive solamente de pan"».	4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”
5 Luego el demonio lo llevó a un lugar más alto, le mostró en un instante todos los reinos de la tierra	5 And the devil led him onto a high mountain, and he showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,
6 y le dijo: «Te daré todo este poder y esplendor de estos reinos, porque me han sido entregados, y yo los doy a quien quiero.	6 and he said to him: “To you, I will give all this power, and its glory. For they have been handed over to me, and I give them to whomever I wish.
7 Si tú te postras delante de mí, todo eso te pertenecerá».	7 Therefore, if you will worship before me, all will be yours.”
8 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: "Adorarás al Señor, tu Dios, y a él solo rendirás culto"».	8 And in response, Jesus said to him: “It is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him alone.’ ”
9 Después el demonio lo condujo a Jerusalén, lo puso en la parte más alta del Templo y le dijo: «Si tú eres Hijo de Dios, tírate de aquí abajo,	9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and he set him on the parapet of the temple, and he said to him: “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here.
10 porque está escrito: "El dará órdenes a sus ángeles para que ellos te cuiden".	10 For it is written that he has given his Angels charge over you, so that they may guard you,
11 Y también: "Ellos te llevarán en sus manos para que tu pie no tropiece con ninguna piedra"».	11 and so that they may take you into their hands, lest perhaps you may hurt your foot against a stone.”
12 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: "No tentarás al Señor, tu Dios"».	12 And in response, Jesus said to him, “It is said: ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”
13 Una vez agotadas todas las formas de tentación, el demonio se alejó de él, hasta el momento oportuno.	13 And when all the temptation was completed, the devil withdrew from him, until a time.
14 Jesús volvió a Galilea con el poder el Espíritu y su fama se extendió en toda la región.	14 And Jesus returned, in the power of the Spirit, into Galilee. And his fame spread throughout the entire region.
15 Enseñaba en las sinagogas y todos lo alababan.	15 And he taught in their synagogues, and he was magnified by everyone.
16 Jesús fue a Nazaret, donde se había criado; el sábado entró como de costumbre en la sinagoga y se levantó para hacer la lectura.	16 And he went to Nazareth, where he had been raised. And he entered into the synagogue, according to his custom, on the Sabbath day. And he rose up to read.
17 Le presentaron el libro del profeta Isaías y, abriéndolo, encontró el pasaje donde estaba escrito:	17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. And as he unrolled the book, he found the place where it was written:
18 "El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha consagrado por la unción. El me envió a llevar la Buena Noticia a los pobres, a anunciar la liberación a los cautivos y la vista a los ciegos, a dar la libertad a los oprimidos	18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because of this, he has anointed me. He has sent me to evangelize the poor, to heal the contrite of heart,
19 y proclamar un año de gracia del Señor".	19 to preach forgiveness to captives and sight to the blind, to release the broken into forgiveness, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of retribution.”
20 Jesús cerró el Libro, lo devolvió al ayudante y se sentó. Todos en la sinagoga tenían los ojos fijos en él.	20 And when he had rolled up the book, he returned it to the minister, and he sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him.
21 Entonces comenzó a decirles: «Hoy se ha cumplido este pasaje de la Escritura que acaban de oír».	21 Then he began to say to them, “On this day, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
22 Todos daban testimonio a favor de él y estaban llenos de admiración por las palabras de gracia que salían de su boca. Y decían: «¿No es este el hijo de José?».	22 And everyone gave testimony to him. And they wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from his mouth. And they said, “Is this not the son of Joseph?”
23 Pero él les respondió: «Sin duda ustedes me citarán el refrán: "Médico, cúrate a ti mismo". Realiza también aquí, en tu patria, todo lo que hemos oído que sucedió en Cafarnaúm».	23 And he said to them: “Certainly, you will recite to me this saying, ‘Physician, heal yourself.’ The many great things that we have heard were done in Capernaum, do here also in your own country.”
24 Después agregó: «Les aseguro que ningún profeta es bien recibido en su tierra.	24 Then he said: “Amen I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country.
25 Yo les aseguro que había muchas viudas en Israel en el tiempo de Elías, cuando durante tres años y seis meses no hubo lluvia del cielo y el hambre azotó a todo el país.	25 In truth, I say to you, there were many widows in the days of Elijah in Israel, when the heavens were closed for three years and six months, when a great famine had occurred throughout the entire land.
26 Sin embargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una viuda de Sarepta, en el país de Sidón.	26 And to none of these was Elijah sent, except to Zarephath of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
27 También había muchos leprosos en Israel, en el tiempo del profeta Eliseo, pero ninguno de ellos fue curado, sino Naamán, el sirio».	27 And there were many lepers in Israel under the prophet Elisha. And none of these was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian.”
28 Al oír estas palabras, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se enfurecieron	28 And all those in the synagogue, upon hearing these things, were filled with anger.
29 y, levantándose, lo empujaron fuera de la ciudad, hasta un lugar escarpado de la colina sobre la que se levantaba la ciudad, con intención de despeñarlo.	29 And they rose up and drove him beyond the city. And they brought him all the way to the edge of the mount, upon which their city had been built, so that they might thrown him down violently.
30 Pero Jesús, pasando en medio de ellos, continuó su camino.	30 But passing through their midst, he went away.
31 Jesús bajó a Cafarnaúm, ciudad de Galilea, y enseñaba los sábados.	31 And he descended to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And there he taught them on the Sabbaths.
32 Y todos estaban asombrados de su enseñanza, porque hablaba con autoridad.	32 And they were astonished at his doctrine, for his word was spoken with authority.
33 En la sinagoga había un hombre que estaba poseído por el espíritu de un demonio impuro; y comenzó a gritar con fuerza;	33 And in the synagogue, there was a man who had an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,
34 «¿Qué quieres de nosotros, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido para acabar con nosotros? Ya sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios».	34 saying: “Let us alone. What are we to you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God.”
35 Pero Jesús lo increpó, diciendo: «Cállate y sal de este hombre». El demonio salió de él, arrojándolo al suelo en medio de todos. sin hacerle ningún daño.	35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and depart from him.” And when the demon had thrown him into their midst, he departed from him, and he no longer harmed him.
36 El temor se apoderó de todos, y se decían unos a otros: «¿Qué tiene su palabra? ¡Manda con autoridad y poder a los espíritus impuros, y ellos salen!».	36 And fear fell over them all. And they discussed this among themselves, saying: “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they depart.”
37 Y su fama se extendía por todas partes en aquella región.	37 And his fame spread to every place in the region.
38 Al salir de la sinagoga, entró en la casa de Simón. La suegra de Simón tenía mucha fiebre, y le pidieron que hiciera algo por ella.	38 Then Jesus, rising up from the synagogue, entered into the house of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in the grip of a severe fever. And they petitioned him on her behalf.
39 Inclinándose sobre ella, Jesús increpó a la fiebre y esta desapareció. En seguida, ella se levantó y se puso a servirlos.	39 And standing over her, he commanded the fever, and it left her. And promptly rising up, she ministered to them.
40 Al atardecer, todos los que tenían enfermos afectados de diversas dolencias se los llevaron, y él, imponiendo las manos sobre cada uno de ellos, los curaba.	40 Then, when the sun had set, all those who had anyone afflicted with various diseases brought them to him. Then, laying his hands on each one of them, he cured them.
41 De muchos salían demonios, gritando: «Tú eres el Hijo de Dios!». Pero él los increpaba y no los dejaba hablar, porque ellos sabían que era el Mesías.	41 Now demons departed from many of them, crying out and saying, “You are the son of God.” And rebuking them, he would not permit them to speak. For they knew him to be the Christ.
42 Cuando amaneció, Jesús salió y se fue a un lugar desierto. La multitud comenzó a buscarlo y, cuando lo encontraron, querían retenerlo para que no se alejara de ellos.	42 Then, when it was daytime, going out, he went to a deserted place. And the crowds sought him, and they went all the way to him. And they detained him, so that he would not depart from them.
43 Pero él les dijo: «También a las otras ciudades debo anunciar la Buena Noticia del Reino de Dios, porque para eso he sido enviado».	43 And he said to them, “I must also preach the kingdom of God to other cities, because it was for this reason that I was sent.”
44 Y predicaba en las sinagogas de toda la Judea.	44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
