| 2 qui dit à sa mère : Les onze cents pièces d'argent que vous aviez mises à part pour vous, et au sujet desquelles vous aviez fait devant moi des imprécations pour qu'on vous les rendit (avez juré), sont entre mes mains, et je les ai sur moi. Sa mère lui répondit : Que le Seigneur comble mon fils de ses bénédictions. | 2 And he said to his mother, “The one thousand one hundred silver coins, which you had separated for yourself, and about which you had sworn in my hearing, behold, I have them, and they are with me.” And she answered him, “My son has been blessed by the Lord.” |
| 3 Michas rendit donc ces pièces d'argent à sa mère, qui lui dit : J'ai consacré et voué cet argent au Seigneur, afin que mon fils le reçoive de ma main, et qu'il en fasse une image taillée (au ciseau) et une image coulée en fonte ; et je te le donne maintenant. | 3 Therefore, he restored them to his mother. And she said to him: “I have consecrated and vowed this silver to the Lord, so that my son would receive it from my hand, and would make a molten idol and a graven image. And now I deliver it to you.” |
| 4 Après donc qu'il eut rendu cet argent à sa mère, elle en prit deux cents pièces d'argent qu'elle donna à un ouvrier (orfèvre) pour qu'il en fît une image taillée (au ciseau), et une autre coulée en fonte, qui demeurèrent dans la maison de Michas. | 4 And when he restored these to his mother, she took two hundred of the silver coins, and she gave them to the silversmith, so that he might make from them a molten idol and a graven image. And it was in the house of Micah. |
| 5 Michas fit aussi dans sa maison un petit édifice pour le dieu, avec un éphod et des théraphim, c'est-à-dire le (un) vêtement sacerdotal et les idoles ; et il remplit (d'offrandes) la main de l'un de ses fils, qui fut établi son prêtre. | 5 And he also separated in it a little shrine for the god. And he made an ephod and theraphim, that is, a priestly garment and idols. And he filled the hand of one of his sons, and he became his priest. |
| 6 En ce temps-là, il n'y avait point de roi en Israël ; mais chacun faisait tout ce qu'il jugeait à propos (semblait juste). | 6 In those days, there was no king in Israel. Instead, each one did what seemed right to himself. |
| 7 Il y avait aussi un autre jeune homme, de Bethléhem de Juda, de cette même famille ; il était Lévite et il demeurait là. | 7 Also, there was another young man, from Bethlehem of Judah, one of his relatives. And he himself was a Levite, and he was living there. |
| 8 Il était sorti de Bethléhem dans le dessein d'aller ailleurs, partout où il trouverait son avantage. Et étant venu dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, il se détourna un peu de son chemin pour aller dans la maison de Michas. | 8 Then, departing from the city of Bethlehem, he wished to sojourn wherever he would find it beneficial to himself. And when he had arrived at mount Ephraim, while making the journey, he also turned aside for a little while to the house of Micah. |
| 9 Michas lui demanda d'où il venait. Il lui répondit : Je suis un Lévite de Bethléem de Juda ; je cherche à m'établir où je pourrai, et où je verrai qu'il me sera le plus utile. | 9 And he was asked by him where he came from. And he responded: “I am a Levite from Bethlehem of Judah. And I am traveling so that I may live where I am able, if I perceive it to be useful to me.” |
| 10 (Et) Michas lui dit : Demeure chez moi ; tu me tiendras lieu de père et de prêtre. Je te donnerai chaque année dix pièces d'argent, deux (un double) vêtements et ce qui est nécessaire pour la vie. | 10 And Micah said: “Stay with me. And you shall be to me like a parent and a priest. And I will give to you, each year, ten silver coins, and a double-layered garment, and whatever provisions are necessary.” |
| 11 Le Lévite y consentit et il demeura chez lui, et il fut traité comme l'un de ses enfants. | 11 He agreed, and he stayed with the man. And he was to him like one of his sons. |
| 12 Michas lui remplit la main d'offrandes, et il retint ce jeune homme chez lui en qualité de prêtre. | 12 And Micah filled his hand, and he had the young man with him as his priest, |
| 13 Je sais maintenant disait-il, que Dieu me fera du bien, puisque j'ai chez moi un prêtre de la race de Lévi. | 13 saying: “Now I know that God will be good to me, since I have a priest from the stock of the Levites.” |
