| 5 Il vint donc dans une ville de Samarie, nommée Sichar, près du champ (de l'héritage) que Jacob avait donné à son fils Joseph. | 5 Therefore, he went into a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the estate which Jacob gave to his son Joseph. |
| 6 Or là était le puits de Jacob. Et Jésus, fatigué du chemin, était assis sur le puits. Il était environ la sixième heure. | 6 And Jacob’s well was there. And so Jesus, being tired from the journey, was sitting in a certain way on the well. It was about the sixth hour. |
| 7 Une femme de la Samarie vint pour puiser de l'eau. Jésus lui dit : Donne-moi à boire. | 7 A woman of Samaria arrived to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me to drink.” |
| 8 Car ses disciples étaient allés à la ville, pour acheter des vivres. | 8 For his disciples had gone into the city in order to buy food. |
| 9 Cette femme samaritaine lui dit : Comment vous, qui êtes Juif, me demandez-vous à boire, à moi qui suis une femme samaritaine ? Les Juifs, en effet, n'ont pas de rapports avec les Samaritains. | 9 And so, that Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, are requesting a drink from me, though I am a Samaritan woman?” For the Jews do not associate with the Samaritans. |
| 10 Jésus lui répondit : Si tu connaissais le don de Dieu, et quel est celui qui te dit : Donne-moi à boire, peut-être lui aurais-tu fait toi-même cette demande, et il t'aurait donné de l'eau vive. | 10 Jesus responded and said to her: “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘Give me to drink,’ perhaps you would have made a request of him, and he would have given you living water.” |
| 11 La femme lui dit : Seigneur, vous n'avez rien pour puiser, et le puits est profond ; d'où avez-vous donc de l'eau vive ? | 11 The woman said to him: “Lord, you do not have anything with which to draw water, and the well is deep. From where, then, do you have living water? |
| 12 Etes-vous plus grand que notre père Jacob, qui nous a donné ce puits, et qui en a bu lui-même, ainsi que ses fils et ses troupeaux ? | 12 Surely, you are not greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and who drank from it, with his sons and his cattle?” |
| 13 Jésus lui répondit : Quiconque boit de cette eau aura encore soif ; mais celui qui boira de l'eau que je lui donnerai n'aura jamais soif ; | 13 Jesus responded and said to her: “All who drink from this water will thirst again. But whoever shall drink from the water that I will give to him will not thirst for eternity. |
| 14 car l'eau que je lui donnerai deviendra en lui une source d'eau qui jaillira jusque dans la vie éternelle. | 14 Instead, the water that I will give to him will become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.” |
| 15 La femme lui dit : Seigneur, donnez-moi de cette eau, afin que je n'aie plus soif, et que je ne vienne plus ici pour puiser. | 15 The woman said to him, “Lord, give me this water, so that I may not thirst and may not come here to draw water.” |
| 16 Jésus lui dit : Va, appelle ton mari, et viens ici. | 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and return here.” |
| 17 La femme répondit : Je n'ai pas de mari. Jésus lui dit : Tu as eu raison de dire : Je n'ai pas de mari ; | 17 The woman responded and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her: “You have spoken well, in saying, ‘I have no husband.’ |
| 18 car tu as eu cinq maris, et maintenant celui que tu as n'est pas ton mari ; en cela, tu as dit vrai. | 18 For you have had five husbands, but he whom you have now is not your husband. You have spoken this in truth.” |
| 19 La femme lui dit : Seigneur, je vois bien que vous êtes un prophète. | 19 The woman said to him: “Lord, I see that you are a Prophet. |
| 20 Nos pères ont adoré sur cette montagne, et vous, vous dites que Jérusalem est le lieu où il faut adorer. | 20 Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you say that Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” |
| 21 Jésus lui dit : Femme, crois-moi, l'heure vient où ce ne sera ni sur cette montagne, ni à Jérusalem, que vous adorerez le Père. | 21 Jesus said to her: “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you shall worship the Father, neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem. |
| 22 Vous adorez ce que vous ne connaissez pas ; nous, nous adorons ce que nous connaissons, car le salut vient des Juifs. | 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know. For salvation is from the Jews. |
| 23 Mais l'heure vient, et elle est déjà venue, où les vrais adorateurs adoreront le Père en esprit et en vérité ; car ce sont de tels adorateurs que cherche le Père. | 23 But the hour is coming, and it is now, when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeks such persons who may worship him. |
| 24 Dieu est esprit, et il faut que ceux qui l'adorent l'adorent en esprit et en vérité. | 24 God is Spirit. And so, those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” |
| 25 La femme lui dit : Je sais que le Messie (c'est-à-dire le Christ) doit venir ; lors donc qu'il sera venu, il nous annoncera toutes choses. | 25 The woman said to him: “I know that the Messiah is coming (who is called the Christ). And then, when he will have arrived, he will announce everything to us.” |
| 26 Jésus lui dit : Je le suis, moi qui te parle. | 26 Jesus said to her: “I am he, the one who is speaking with you.” |
| 27 Au même instant ses disciples arrivèrent, et ils s'étonnaient de ce qu'il parlait avec une femme. Cependant aucun ne lui dit : Que demandez-vous ? ou : Pourquoi parlez-vous avec elle ? | 27 And then his disciples arrived. And they wondered that he was speaking with the woman. Yet no one said: “What are you seeking?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” |
| 28 La femme laissa donc là sa cruche, et s'en alla dans la ville. Et elle dit aux gens : | 28 And so the woman left behind her water jar and went into the city. And she said to the men there: |
| 29 Venez, et voyez un homme qui m'a dit tout ce que j'ai fait. Ne serait-il pas le Christ ? | 29 “Come and see a man who has told me all the things that I have done. Is he not the Christ?” |
| 30 Ils sortirent donc de la ville, et vinrent auprès de lui. | 30 Therefore, they went out of the city and came to him. |
| 31 Cependant les disciples le priaient, en disant : Maître, mangez. | 31 Meanwhile, the disciples petitioned him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” |
| 32 Mais il leur dit : J'ai à manger une nourriture que vous ne connaissez pas. | 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat which you do not know.” |
| 33 Les disciples se disaient donc l'un à l'autre : Quelqu'un lui a-t-il apporté à manger ? | 33 Therefore, the disciples said to one another, “Could someone have brought him something to eat?” |
| 34 Jésus leur dit : Ma nourriture est de faire la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé, pour accomplir sonœuvre. | 34 Jesus said to them: “My food is to do the will of the One who sent me, so that I may perfect his work. |
| 35 Ne dites-vous pas : Encore quatre mois, et la moisson viendra ? Voici que je vous dis : Levez vos yeux, et voyez les campagnes qui blanchissent déjà pour la moisson. | 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and then the harvest arrives?’ Behold, I say to you: Lift up your eyes and look at the countryside; for it is already ripe for the harvest. |
| 36 Et celui qui moissonne reçoit une récompense, et amasse du fruit pour la vie éternelle, afin que celui qui sème se réjouisse, aussi bien que celui qui moissonne. | 36 For he who reaps, receives wages and gathers fruit unto eternal life, so that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. |
| 37 Car ici se vérifie cette parole : Autre est celui qui sème, et autre celui qui moissonne. | 37 For in this the word is true: that it is one who sows, and it is another who reaps. |
| 38 Je vous ai envoyés moissonner là où vous n'avez pas travaillé ; d'autres ont travaillé, et vous, vous êtes entrés dans leurs travaux. | 38 I have sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.” |
| 39 Or beaucoup de Samaritains de cette ville crurent en lui, sur la parole de la femme qui lui rendait ce témoignage : Il m'a dit tout ce que j'ai fait. | 39 Now many of the Samaritans from that city believed in him, because of the word of the woman who was offering testimony: “For he told me all the things that I have done.” |
| 40 Les Samaritains, étant donc venus auprès de lui, le prièrent de demeurer chez eux ; et il y demeura deux jours. | 40 Therefore, when the Samaritans had come to him, they petitioned him to lodge there. And he lodged there for two days. |
| 41 Et il y en eut un bien plus grand nombre qui crurent en lui, à cause de sa parole. | 41 And many more believed in him, because of his own word. |
| 42 Et ils disaient à la femme : Ce n'est plus à cause de ce que tu nous as dit que nous croyons ; car nous l'avons entendu nous-mêmes, et nous savons qu'il est vraiment le Sauveur du monde. | 42 And they said to the woman: “Now we believe, not because of your speech, but because we ourselves have heard him, and so we know that he is truly the Savior of the world.” |
| 43 Deux jours après, il partit de là et s'en alla en Galilée. | 43 Then, after two days, he departed from there, and he traveled into Galilee. |
| 44 Car Jésus lui-même a rendu ce témoignage, qu'un prophète n'est pas honoré dans sa patrie. | 44 For Jesus himself offered testimony that a Prophet has no honor in his own country. |
| 45 Lors donc qu'il vint en Galilée, les Galiléens l'accueillirent, parce qu'ils avaient vu tout ce qu'il avait fait à Jérusalem au jour de la fête ; car eux aussi ils étaient allés à la fête. | 45 And so, when he had arrived in Galilee, the Galileans received him, because they had seen all that he had done at Jerusalem, in the day of the feast. For they also went to the feast day. |
| 46 Jésus vint donc de nouveau à Cana en Galilée, où il avait changé l'eau en vin. Et il y avait un officier du roi, dont le fils était malade à Capharnaüm. | 46 Then he went again into Cana of Galilee, where he made water into wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capernaum. |
| 47 Ayant appris que Jésus venait de Judée en Galilée, il alla auprès de lui, et le pria de descendre, et de guérir son fils, qui était près de mourir. | 47 Since he had heard that Jesus came to Galilee from Judea, he sent to him and begged him to come down and heal his son. For he was beginning to die. |
| 48 Jésus lui dit : Si vous ne voyez des signes et des prodiges, vous ne croyez pas. | 48 Therefore, Jesus said to him, “Unless you have seen signs and wonders, you do not believe.” |
| 49 L'officier lui dit : Seigneur, descendez avant que mon fils meure. | 49 The ruler said to him, “Lord, come down before my son dies.” |
| 50 Jésus lui dit : Va, ton fils vit. Cet homme crut à la parole que Jésus lui avait dite, et il s'en alla. | 50 Jesus said to him, “Go, your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and so he went away. |
| 51 Comme déjà il descendait, ses serviteurs vinrent au-devant de lui, et lui annoncèrent que son fils vivait. | 51 Then, as he was going down, his servants met him. And they reported to him, saying that his son was alive. |
| 52 Il leur demanda l'heure à laquelle il s'était trouvé mieux ; et ils lui dirent : Hier, à la septième heure, la fièvre l'a quitté. | 52 Therefore, he asked them at which hour he had become better. And they said to him, “Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him.” |
| 53 Le père reconnut que c'était à cette heure-là que Jésus lui avait dit : Ton fils vit ; et il crut, lui et toute sa maison. | 53 Then the father realized that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And both he and his entire household believed. |
| 54 Ce fut là le second miracle que fit Jésus, après être revenu de Judée en Galilée. | 54 This next sign was the second that Jesus accomplished, after he had arrived in Galilee from Judea. |
