| 2 et on apprit qu'il était dans une maison, et il s'y rassembla un si grand nombre de personnes, que l'espace même qui était devant la porte ne pouvait les contenir ; et il leur prêchait la parole. | 2 and so many people collected that there was no room left, even in front of the door. He was preachingthe word to them |
| 3 Alors quelques-uns vinrent, lui amenant un paralytique, qui était porté par quatre hommes. | 3 when some people came bringing him a paralytic carried by four men, |
| 4 Et comme ils ne pouvaient le lui présenter à cause de la foule, ils découvrirent le toit de la maison où il était, et y ayant fait une ouverture, ils descendirent le grabat sur lequel le paralytique était couché. | 4 but as they could not get the man to him through the crowd, they stripped the roof over the place whereJesus was; and when they had made an opening, they lowered the stretcher on which the paralytic lay. |
| 5 Jésus, ayant vu leur foi, dit au paralytique : Mon fils, tes péchés te sont remis. | 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, 'My child, your sins are forgiven.' |
| 6 Or, il y avait là quelques scribes assis, qui pensaient dans leurs cœurs : | 6 Now some scribes were sitting there, and they thought to themselves, |
| 7 Pourquoi cet homme parle-t-il ainsi ? Il blasphème. Qui peut remettre les péchés, si ce n'est Dieu seul ? | 7 'How can this man talk like that? He is being blasphemous. Who but God can forgive sins?' |
| 8 Jésus, connaissant aussitôt, par son esprit, qu'ils pensaient ainsi en eux-mêmes, leur dit : Pourquoi avez-vous ces pensées dans vos cœurs ? | 8 And at once, Jesus, inwardly aware that this is what they were thinking, said to them, 'Why do you havethese thoughts in your hearts? |
| 9 Lequel est le plus aisé de dire au paralytique : Tes péchés te sont remis ; ou de dire : Lève-toi, prends ton grabat, et marche ? | 9 Which of these is easier: to say to the paralytic, "Your sins are forgiven" or to say, "Get up, pick up your stretcher and walk"? |
| 10 Or, afin que vous sachiez que le Fils de l'homme a sur la terre le pouvoir de remettre les péchés (Il dit au paralytique) : | 10 But to prove to you that the Son of man has authority to forgive sins on earth' -- |
| 11 Je te l'ordonne, lève-toi, prends ton grabat, et va dans ta maison. | 11 he said to the paralytic-'I order you: get up, pick up your stretcher, and go off home.' |
| 12 Et aussitôt il se leva, et ayant pris son grabat, il s'en alla en présence de tous, de sorte qu'ils furent tous dans l'admiration, et qu'ils rendaient gloire à Dieu, en disant : Jamais nous n'avons rien vu de semblable. | 12 And the man got up, and at once picked up his stretcher and walked out in front of everyone, so thatthey were al astonished and praised God saying, 'We have never seen anything like this.' |
| 13 Jésus, étant de nouveau sorti du côté de la mer, toute la foule venait à lui, et il les enseignait. | 13 He went out again to the shore of the lake; and al the people came to him, and he taught them. |
| 14 Et tandis qu'il passait, il vit Lévi, fils d'Alphée, assis au bureau du péage, et il lui dit : Suis-moi. Et se levant, il le suivit. | 14 As he was walking along he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and he said to him,'Fol ow me.' And he got up and fol owed him. |
| 15 Et il arriva que, comme Jésus était à table dans la maison de cet homme, beaucoup de publicains et de pécheurs étaient aussi assis à table avec lui et avec ses disciples ; car il y en avait beaucoup qui le suivaient. | 15 When Jesus was at dinner in his house, a number of tax collectors and sinners were also sitting attable with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many of them among his fol owers. |
| 16 Les scribes et les pharisiens, voyant qu'il mangeait avec les publicains et les pécheurs, disaient à ses disciples : Pourquoi votre Maître mange-t-il et boit-il avec les publicains et les pécheurs ? | 16 When the scribes of the Pharisee party saw him eating with sinners and tax col ectors, they said to hisdisciples, 'Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?' |
| 17 Ayant entendu cela, Jésus leur dit : Ce ne sont pas ceux qui se portent bien qui ont besoin de médecin, mais les malades. Je ne suis pas venu appeler les justes, mais les pécheurs. | 17 When Jesus heard this he said to them, 'It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick. I cameto cal not the upright, but sinners.' |
| 18 Or, les disciples de Jean et les pharisiens jeûnaient ; et étant venus, ils lui dirent : Pourquoi les disciples de Jean et ceux des pharisiens jeûnent-ils, tandis que vos disciples ne jeûnent pas ? | 18 John's disciples and the Pharisees were keeping a fast, when some people came to him and said tohim, 'Why is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?' |
| 19 Jésus leur répondit : Les amis de l'époux peuvent-ils jeûner pendant que l'époux est avec eux ? Aussi longtemps qu'ils ont l'époux avec eux, ils ne peuvent pas jeûner. | 19 Jesus replied, 'Surely the bridegroom's attendants cannot fast while the bridegroom is still with them?As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. |
| 20 Mais les jours viendront où l'époux leur sera enlevé, et alors ils jeûneront en ces jours-là. | 20 But the time wil come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then, on that day, they wilfast. |
| 21 Personne ne coud une pièce de drap neuf sur un vieux vêtement ; autrement, la pièce de drap neuf emporte une partie du vieux, et la déchirure devient plus grande. | 21 No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak; otherwise, the patch pul s away from it, thenew from the old, and the tear gets worse. |
| 22 Et personne ne met du vin nouveau dans de vieilles outres ; autrement le vin rompra les outres, et le vin se répandra, et les outres seront perdues ; mais le vin nouveau doit être mis dans des outres neuves. | 22 And nobody puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wine wil burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins too. No! New wine into fresh skins!' |
| 23 Il arriva encore que, le Seigneur passant le long des blés un jour de sabbat, ses disciples se mirent, chemin faisant, à arracher des épis. | 23 It happened that one Sabbath day he was taking a walk through the cornfields, and his disciplesbegan to make a path by plucking ears of corn. |
| 24 Et les pharisiens lui disaient : Voyez, pourquoi font-ils, le jour du sabbat, ce qui n'est pas permis ? | 24 And the Pharisees said to him, 'Look, why are they doing something on the Sabbath day that isforbidden?' |
| 25 Il leur dit : N'avez-vous jamais lu ce que fit David lorsqu'il fut dans le besoin, et qu'il eut faim, lui et ceux qui l'accompagnaient ; | 25 And he replied, 'Have you never read what David did in his time of need when he and his fol owerswere hungry- |

| 27 Il leur disait encore : Le sabbat a été fait pour l'homme, et non pas l'homme pour le sabbat. | 27 And he said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath; |
| 28 C'est pourquoi le Fils de l'homme est maître du sabbat même. (verset oublié) | 28 so the Son of man is master even of the Sabbath.' |
