| 3 Bienheureux les pauvres en esprit, car le royaume des Cieux est à eux. | 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. |
| 4 Bienheureux ceux qui sont doux, car ils possèderont la terre. | 4 Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth. |
| 5 Bienheureux ceux qui pleurent, car ils seront consolés. | 5 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be consoled. |
| 6 Bienheureux ceux qui ont faim et soif de la justice, car ils seront rassasiés. | 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied. |
| 7 Bienheureux les miséricordieux, car ils obtiendront eux-mêmes miséricorde. | 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. |
| 8 Bienheureux ceux qui ont le cœur pur, car ils verront Dieu. | 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. |
| 9 Bienheureux les pacifiques, car ils seront appelés enfants de Dieu. | 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. |
| 10 Bienheureux ceux qui souffrent persécution pour la justice, car le royaume des Cieux est à eux. | 10 Blessed are those who endure persecution for the sake of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. |
| 11 Bienheureux serez-vous lorsqu'on vous maudira, et qu'on vous persécutera, et qu'on dira faussement toute sorte de mal contre vous, à cause de Moi. | 11 Blessed are you when they have slandered you, and persecuted you, and spoken all kinds of evil against you, falsely, for my sake: |
| 12 Réjouissez-vous alors, et tressaillez de joie, parce que votre récompense sera grande dans les Cieux ; car c'est ainsi qu'on a persécuté les prophètes qui ont été avant vous. | 12 be glad and exult, for your reward in heaven is plentiful. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. |
| 13 Vous êtes le sel de la terre. Mais si le sel s'affadit, avec quoi le salera-t-on ? Il n'est plus bon qu'à être jeté dehors, et foulé aux pieds par les hommes. | 13 You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, with what will it be salted? It is no longer useful at all, except to be cast out and trampled under by men. |
| 14 Vous êtes la lumière du monde. Une ville située sur une montagne ne peut être cachée ; | 14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. |
| 15 et on n'allume pas une lampe pour la mettre sous le boisseau, mais on la met sur le candélabre, afin qu'elle éclaire tous ceux qui sont dans la maison. | 15 And they do not light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, so that it may shine to all who are in the house. |
| 16 Que votre lumière luise ainsi devant les hommes, afin qu'ils voient vos bonnes oeuvres, et qu'ils glorifient votre Père qui est dans les Cieux. | 16 So then, let your light shine in the sight of men, so that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father, who is in heaven. |
| 17 Ne pensez pas que Je sois venu abolir la loi ou les prophètes ; Je ne suis pas venu les abolir, mais les accomplir. | 17 Do not think that I have come to loosen the law or the prophets. I have not come to loosen, but to fulfill. |
| 18 Car en vérité, Je vous le dis, jusqu'à ce que passent le ciel et la terre, un seul iota ou un seul trait ne disparaîtra pas de la loi, que tout ne soit accompli. | 18 Amen I say to you, certainly, until heaven and earth pass away, not one iota, not one dot shall pass away from the law, until all is done. |
| 19 Celui donc qui violera l'un de ces plus petits commandements, et qui enseignera les hommes à le faire, sera appelé le plus petit dans le royaume des Cieux ; mais celui qui fera et enseignera, celui-là sera appelé grand dans le royaume des Cieux. | 19 Therefore, whoever will have loosened one of the least of these commandments, and have taught men so, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever will have done and taught these, such a one shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. |
| 20 Car Je vous dis que si votre justice n'est pas plus abondante que celle des scribes et des pharisiens, vous n'entrerez pas dans le royaume des Cieux. | 20 For I say to you, that unless your justice has surpassed that of the scribes and the Pharisees you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. |
| 21 Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit aux anciens : Tu ne tueras point ; et celui qui tuera méritera d'être condamné en jugement. | 21 You have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not murder; whoever will have murdered shall be liable to judgment.’ |
| 22 Mais Moi Je vous dis que quiconque se met en colère contre son frère, méritera d'être condamné en jugement ; et celui qui dira à son frère : Raca, méritera d'être condamné par le conseil ; et celui qui lui dira : Fou, méritera d'être condamné au feu de la géhenne. | 22 But I say to you, that anyone who becomes angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment. But whoever will have called his brother, ‘Idiot,’ shall be liable to the council. Then, whoever will have called him, ‘Worthless,’ shall be liable to the fires of Hell. |
| 23 Si donc tu présentes ton offrande à l'autel, et que là tu te souviens que ton frère a quelque chose contre toi, | 23 Therefore, if you offer your gift at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, |
| 24 laisse là ton offrande devant l'autel, et va d'abord te réconcilier avec ton frère, et ensuite tu reviendras présenter ton offrande. | 24 leave your gift there, before the altar, and go first to be reconciled to your brother, and then you may approach and offer your gift. |
| 25 Accorde-toi au plus tôt avec ton adversaire, pendant que tu es en chemin avec lui, de peur que ton adversaire ne te livre au juge, et que le juge ne te livre au ministre de la justice, et que tu ne sois mis en prison. | 25 Be reconciled with your adversary quickly, while you are still on the way with him, lest perhaps the adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you will be thrown in prison. |
| 26 En vérité, Je te le dis, tu ne sortiras pas de là que tu n'aies payé jusqu'à la dernière obole (quart d'un as, note). | 26 Amen I say to you, that you shall not go forth from there, until you have repaid the last quarter. |
| 27 Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit aux anciens : Tu ne commettras point d'adultère. | 27 You have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ |
| 28 Mais Moi Je vous dis que quiconque aura regardé une femme pour la convoiter, a déjà commis l'adultère avec elle dans son cœur. | 28 But I say to you, that anyone who will have looked at a woman, so as to lust after her, has already committed adultery with her in his heart. |
| 29 Si ton œil droit te scandalise, arrache-le, et jette-le loin de toi ; car il vaut mieux pour toi qu'un de tes membres périsse, que si tout ton corps était jeté dans la géhenne. | 29 And if your right eye causes you to sin, root it out and cast it away from you. For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than that your whole body be cast into Hell. |
| 30 Et si ta main droite te scandalise, coupe-la, et jette-la loin de toi ; car il vaut mieux pour toi qu'un de tes membres périsse, que si tout ton corps allait dans la géhenne. | 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it away from you. For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than that your whole body go into Hell. |
| 31 Il a été dit encore : Que quiconque renverra sa femme lui donne un acte de répudiation. | 31 And it has been said: ‘Whoever would dismiss his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce.’ |
| 32 Mais Moi Je vous dis que quiconque renverra sa femme, si ce n'est en cas d'infidélité, la fait devenir adultère ; et celui qui épouse une femme renvoyée commet un adultère. | 32 But I say to you, that anyone who will have dismissed his wife, except in the case of fornication, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever will have married her who has been dismissed commits adultery. |
| 33 Vous avez encore appris qu'il a été dit aux anciens : Tu ne te parjureras pas, mais tu t'acquitteras envers le Seigneur de tes serments. | 33 Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not swear falsely. For you shall repay your oaths to the Lord.’ |
| 34 Mais Moi Je vous dis de ne pas jurer du tout : ni par le Ciel, parce que c'est le trône de Dieu ; | 34 But I say to you, do not swear an oath at all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God, |
| 35 ni par la terre, parce qu'elle est l'escabeau de Ses pieds ; ni par Jérusalem, parce que c'est la ville du grand Roi. | 35 nor by earth, for it is his footstool, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king. |
| 36 Tu ne jureras pas non plus par ta tête, parce que tu ne peux rendre un seul de tes cheveux blanc ou noir. | 36 Neither shall you swear an oath by your own head, because you are not able to cause one hair to become white or black. |
| 37 Mais que votre langage soit : Oui, oui ; Non, non ; car ce qu'on y ajoute vient du mal. | 37 But let your word ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ For anything beyond that is of evil. |
| 38 Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit : Oil pourœil, et dent pour dent. | 38 You have heard that it was said: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ |
| 39 Mais Moi Je vous dis de ne point résister au méchant ; mais si quelqu'un t'a frappé sur ta joue droite, présente-lui encore l'autre. | 39 But I say to you, do not resist one who is evil, but if anyone will have struck you on your right cheek, offer to him the other also. |
| 40 Et si quelqu'un veut t'appeler en jugement pour te prendre ta tunique, abandonne-lui encore ton manteau. | 40 And anyone who wishes to contend with you in judgment, and to take away your tunic, release to him your cloak also. |
| 41 Et si quelqu'un veut te contraindre de faire mille pas, va avec lui pendant deux autres mille. | 41 And whoever will have compelled you for one thousand steps, go with him even for two thousand steps. |
| 42 Donne à celui qui te demande, et si quelqu'un veut emprunter de toi ne te détourne pas. | 42 Whoever asks of you, give to him. And if anyone would borrow from you, do not turn away from him. |
| 43 Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit : Tu aimeras ton prochain, et tu haïras ton ennemi. | 43 You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor, and you shall have hatred for your enemy.’ |
| 44 Mais Moi Je vous dis : Aimez vos ennemis, faites du bien à ceux qui vous haïssent, et priez pour ceux qui vous persécutent et qui vous calomnient ; | 44 But I say to you: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. And pray for those who persecute and slander you. |
| 45 afin que vous soyez les enfants de votre Père qui est dans les Cieux, qui fait lever Son soleil sur les bons et sur les méchants, et qui fait pleuvoir sur les justes et sur les injustes. | 45 In this way, you shall be sons of your Father, who is in heaven. He causes his sun to rise upon the good and the bad, and he causes it to rain upon the just and the unjust. |
| 46 Car si vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, quelle récompense aurez-vous ? Les publicains ne le font-ils pas aussi ? | 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Do not even tax collectors behave this way? |
| 47 Et si vous ne saluez que vos frères, que faites-vous d'extraordinaire ? Les païens ne le font-ils pas aussi ? | 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more have you done? Do not even the pagans behave this way? |
| 48 Soyez donc parfaits, vous, comme votre Père céleste est parfait. | 48 Therefore, be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect.” |
