| 3 Parle à Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, chef de Juda, à Jésus, fils de Josédec, (le) grand-prêtre, et aux restes du peuple, et dis-leur : | 3 Speak to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel the governor of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and to the rest of the people, saying: |
| 4 Quel est parmi vous le survivant qui a vu cette maison dans sa première gloire ? et en quel état la voyez-vous maintenant ? Ne paraît-elle pas à vos yeux comme si elle n'était pas ? | 4 Who is left among you, that saw this house in its first glory? and how do you see it now? is it not in comparison to that as nothing in your eyes? |
| 5 Et maintenant fortifie-toi, Zorobabel, dit le Seigneur ; fortifie-toi, Jésus, fils de Josédec, grand-prêtre ; fortifie-toi (aussi), peuple entier du pays, dit le Seigneur des armées, et travaillez (observez) (car je suis avec vous, dit le Seigneur des armées), | 5 Yet now take courage, O Zorobabel, saith the Lord, and take courage, O Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and take courage, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord of hosts: and perform (for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts) |
| 6 (conformément à) l'alliance que j'ai faite avec vous lorsque vous sortiez du pays d'Egypte, et mon esprit sera au milieu de vous ; ne craignez pas. | 6 The word that I covenanted with you when you came out of the land of Egypt: and my spirit shall be in the midst of you: fear not. |
| 7 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées : Encore un peu de temps, et j'ébranlerai le ciel et la terre, la mer et le continent (la partie aride). | 7 For thus saith the Lord of hosts: Yet one little while, and I will move the heaven and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land. |
| 8 J'ébranlerai toutes les nations, et le Désiré de toutes les nations viendra ; et je remplirai de gloire cette maison, dit le Seigneur des armées. | 8 And I will move all nations: AND THE DESIRED OF ALL NATIONS SHALL COME: and I will fill this house with glory: saith the Lord of hosts. |
| 9 L'argent est à moi, et l'or est à moi, dit le Seigneur des armées. | 9 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. |
| 10 La gloire de cette dernière maison sera plus grande que celle de la première, dit le Seigneur des armées, et en ce lieu je donnerai la paix, dit le Seigneur des armées. | 10 Great shall be the glory of this last house more than of the first, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place I will give peace, saith the Lord of hosts. |
| 11 Le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, la seconde année du roi Darius, la parole du Seigneur fut adressée au prophète Aggée, en ces termes (disant, note) : | 11 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius the king, the word of the Lord came to Aggeus the prophet, saying: |
| 12 Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées : Propose aux prêtres cette question sur la loi : | 12 Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Ask the priests the law, saying: |
| 13 Si un homme met (porte) un morceau de chair sanctifiée dans le coin de son vêtement, et qu'il touche avec l'extrémité du vêtement du pain, ou des mets, ou du vin, ou de l'huile, ou tout autre aliment, ces choses seront-elles sanctifiées ? Les prêtres répondirent : Non. | 13 If a man carry sanctified flesh in the skirt of his garment, and touch with his skirt, bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat: shall it be sanctified? And the priests answered, and said: No. |
| 14 Aggée reprit : Si un homme souillé par un cadavre touche toutes ces choses, seront-elles souillées ? Les prêtres répondirent : Elles seront souillées. | 14 And Aggeus said: If one that is unclean by occasion of a soul touch any of all these things, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered, and said: It shall be defiled. |
| 15 Alors Aggée reprit la parole et dit : Tel est ce peuple et telle est cette nation devant ma face, dit le Seigneur, et telles sont toutes les œuvres de leurs mains : tout ce qu'ils m'offrent en ce lieu est souillé. | 15 And Aggeus answered, and said: So is this people, and so is this nation before my face, saith the Lord, and so is all the work of their hands: and all that they have offered there, shall be defiled. |
| 16 Et maintenant appliquez vos cœurs à ce qui s'est passé jusqu'à ce jour (et au-delà), avant qu'on eût mis pierre sur pierre au temple du Seigneur. | 16 And now consider in your hearts, from this day and upward, before there was a stone laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord. |
| 17 Lorsque vous vous approchiez d'un tas de blé de vingt mesures (boisseaux), il n'y en avait que dix ; et lorsque vous veniez au pressoir pour en rapporter cinquante amphores (cruches de vin), il n'y en avait que vingt. | 17 When you went to a heap of twenty bushels, and they became ten: and you went into the press, to press out fifty vessels, and they became twenty. |
| 18 Je vous ai frappés d'un vent brûlant ; j'ai frappé de la nielle et de la grêle tous les travaux de vos mains ; et il n'y a eu parmi vous personne qui revînt à moi, dit le Seigneur. | 18 I struck you with a blasting wind, and all the works of your hand with the mildew and with hail, yet there was none among you that returned to me, saith the Lord. |
| 19 Appliquez vos cœurs à ce qui se fera depuis ce jour et à l'avenir, depuis le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, depuis le jour où les fondements du temple ont été jetés ; appliquez-y votre cœur. | 19 Set your hearts from this day, and henceforward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month: from the day that the foundations of the temple of the Lord were laid, and lay it up in your hearts. |
| 20 Est-ce que la semence a déjà germé ? n'est-il pas vrai que la vigne, le figuier, le grenadier, le bois de l'olivier, n'ont pas encore (n'ont-ils pas) fleuri ? A partir de ce jour, je bénirai. | 20 Is the seed as yet sprung up? or hath the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree as yet flourished? from this day I will bless you. |
| 21 La parole du Seigneur fut adressée pour la seconde fois à Aggée, le vingt-quatrième jour du mois, en ces termes : | 21 And the word of the Lord came a second time to Aggeus in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying: |
| 22 Parle à Zorobabel, chef de Juda, et dis-lui : J'ébranlerai ensemble le ciel et la terre. | 22 Speak to Zorobabel the governor of Juda, saying: I will move both heaven and earth. |
| 23 Je renverserai le trône des royaumes, je briserai la force du règne des nations, je renverserai les chars et ceux qui les montent ; les chevaux s'abattront (tomberont), ainsi que leurs cavaliers ; chacun sera percé par l'épée de son frère. | 23 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and will destroy the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles: and I will overthrow the chariot, and him that rideth therein: and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother. |
| 24 En ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur des armées, je te prendrai, Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, mon serviteur, dit le Seigneur ; et je te garderai (poserai) comme un sceau, parce que je t'ai choisi, dit le Seigneur des armées. | 24 In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, I will take thee, O Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, my servant, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a signet, for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of hosts. |
