| 3 Et Baruch lut les paroles de ce livre aux oreilles de Jéchonias, fils de Joakim, roi de Juda, et aux oreilles de tout le peuple qui venait entendre cette lecture (le livre), | 3 And Baruch read the words of this book to the ears of Jeconiah, the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and to the ears of the entire people, who came to the book: |
| 4 et aux oreilles des grands, des fils des rois (princes), et aux oreilles des anciens (prêtres), et aux oreilles du peuple, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand de tous ceux qui habitaient à Babylone, près du fleuve Sodi. | 4 even to the ears of the powerful sons of kings, and to the ears of the elders, and to the ears of the people, from the least to the greatest of them, of all those living in Babylon, near the river Sud. |
| 5 En écoutant ils pleuraient, et ils jeûnaient, et ils priaient en présence du Seigneur. | 5 And upon hearing it, they wept and fasted and prayed in the sight of the Lord. |
| 6 Et ils recueillirent de l'argent, selon ce que la main de chacun put donner, | 6 And they collected money in accordance with whatever each one was able to handover. |
| 7 et ils l'envoyèrent à Jérusalem, à Joakim, fils d'Helcias, fils de Salom, le prêtre, et aux autres prêtres, et à tout le peuple qui se trouvait avec lui à Jérusalem, | 7 And they sent it to Jerusalem to Jehoiakim, the son of Hilkiah, the son of Shalum the priest, and to the priests, and to all the people, who were found with him in Jerusalem. |
| 8 après qu'il eut reçu les vases du temple du Seigneur, qui avaient été emportés du temple, pour les rapporter dans le pays de Juda, le dixième jour du mois de Sivan ; c'étaient les vases d'argent que Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, avait fait faire, | 8 At that time, he received the vessels of the temple of the Lord (which had been carried away from the temple) so as to return them to the land of Judah, on the tenth day of the month Sivan. These were the silver vessels, which Zedekiah, the son of Josiah king of Judah, had made. |
| 9 lorsque Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, eut pris Jéchonias, et les princes, et tous les grands, et le peuple du pays, et les eut emmenés captifs (enchaînés) à Babylone. | 9 After this, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, captured Jeconiah, and the leaders, and all the powerful, and the people of the land, and led them captive from Jerusalem to Babylon. |
| 10 Et ils dirent : Nous vous avons envoyé de l'argent ; achetez-en des holocaustes et de l'encens, et faites-en des sacrifices, et des offrandes (oblations) pour le péché, à l'autel du Seigneur notre Dieu ; | 10 And they said, “Behold we have sent you money with which to buy holocausts and frankincense. Therefore, make manna and offer it for sin at the altar of the Lord our God. |
| 11 et priez pour la vie de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et pour la vie de Baltassar son fils, afin que leurs jours soient comme les jours du ciel sur la terre ; | 11 And pray for the life of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and for the life of Belshazzar his son, so that their days may be just like the days of the heaven above the earth, |
| 12 et afin que le Seigneur nous donne la force, et qu'il éclaire nos yeux, pour que nous vivions à l'ombre de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et à l'ombre de Baltassar, son fils, pour que nous les servions longtemps, et que nous trouvions grâce devant eux. | 12 and so that the Lord may give virtue to us, and enlighten our eyes, so that we may live under the shadow of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and under the shadow of Belshazzar his son, and so that we may serve them for many days and may find favor in their sight. |
| 13 Priez aussi le Seigneur notre Dieu pour nous, car nous avons péché contre le Seigneur notre Dieu, et sa colère ne s'est pas détournée de nous jusqu'à ce jour. | 13 And pray for us also to the Lord our God, for we have sinned against the Lord our God, and the madness of our sin has not been driven away from us even to this day. |
| 14 Lisez aussi ce livre, que nous vous avons envoyé pour qu'il soit lu dans le temple du Seigneur, au (en un) jour solennel et au (en un) jour favorable. | 14 And read this book, which we have sent to you to be recited in the temple of the Lord, on solemn days and on other suitable days. |
| 15 Et vous direz : La justice appartient au Seigneur notre Dieu, mais à nous la confusion de notre visage, comme il paraît en ce jour pour tout Juda et pour les habitants de Jérusalem, | 15 And you will say, ‘To the Lord our God is justice, but to us is confusion of our face, just as it is this day for all of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, |
| 16 pour nos rois, et nos princes, et nos prêtres, et nos prophètes, et nos pères. | 16 even for our kings, and our leaders, and our priests, and our prophets, and our fathers. |
| 17 Nous avons péché devant le Seigneur notre Dieu, et nous ne l'avons pas cru, manquant de confiance en lui, | 17 We have sinned before the Lord our God and we have not believed, lacking confidence in him. |
| 18 et nous ne lui avons pas été soumis, et nous n'avons pas écouté la voix du Seigneur notre Dieu, pour marcher selon les préceptes (commandements) qu'il nous a donnés. | 18 And we have not been submissive to him, and we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God, so as to walk in his commandments, which he has given to us. |
| 19 Depuis le jour où il a tiré nos pères du pays d'Egypte jusqu'à ce jour, nous avons été incrédules envers le Seigneur notre Dieu ; et dans la dissipation de notre esprit (disséminés), nous nous sommes retirés, pour ne pas entendre sa voix. | 19 From the day that he led our fathers out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, we were unfaithful to the Lord our God, and, having been scattered, we fell away. We did not listen to his voice. |
| 20 Aussi des maux nombreux se sont-ils attachés à nous, avec les malédictions que le Seigneur avait prédites à Moïse, son serviteur, qui a fait sortir nos pères du pays d'Egypte, pour nous donner une terre où coulent le lait et le miel, comme on le voit aujourd'hui. | 20 And we joined ourselves to many evils and to the curses which the Lord established through Moses, his servant, who led our fathers out of the land of Egypt, to give us a land flowing with milk and honey, just as it is in the present day. |
| 21 Et nous n'avons pas écouté la voix du Seigneur notre Dieu, selon toutes les paroles des prophètes qu'il nous a envoyés ; | 21 And we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God, according to all the words of the prophets whom he sent to us. |
| 22 et chacun de nous s'est laissé aller au sens de son cœur corrompu (méchant), pour servir des dieux étrangers, et pour commettre ce qui est mal aux yeux du Seigneur notre Dieu. | 22 And we have gone astray, each one after the inclinations of his own malignant heart, serving strange gods and doing evil before the eyes of the Lord our God. |
