| 1 Ecoutez, îles, et vous, peuples lointains, soyez attentifs. Le Seigneur m'a appelé dès le sein de ma mère ; lorsque j'étais encore dans ses entrailles, il s'est souvenu de mon nom. | 1 Give ear, ye islands, and hearken, ye people from afar. The Lord hath called me from the womb, from the bowels of my mother he hath been mindful of my name. |
| 2 Il a rendu ma bouche semblable à un glaive acéré, il m'a protégé à l'ombre de sa main ; il a fait de moi comme une flèche choisie, il m'a caché dans son carquois. | 2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword: in the shadow of his hand he hath protected me, and hath made me as a chosen arrow: in his quiver he hath hidden me. |
| 3 Et il m'a dit : Tu es mon serviteur, Israël, et (parce que) je me glorifierai en toi. | 3 And he said to me: Thou art my servant Israel, for in thee will I glory. |
| 4 Et moi j'ai dit : C'est en vain que j'ai travaillé, c'est inutilement et sans fruit que j'ai consumé ma force ; mais mon droit (jugement) est auprès du Seigneur, et ma récompense auprès (travail au pouvoir) de mon Dieu. | 4 And I said: I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength without cause and in vain: therefore my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God. |
| 5 Et maintenant le Seigneur dit, lui qui m'a formé dès le sein de ma mère pour être son serviteur, pour ramener à lui Jacob, et (quoique) Israël ne se réunisse pas à lui (ne sera pas rassemblé), je serai (j'ai été) glorifié aux yeux du Seigneur, et mon Dieu deviendra ma force. | 5 And now saith the Lord, that formed me from the womb to be his servant, that I may bring back Jacob unto him, and Israel will not be gathered together: and I am glorified in the eyes of the Lord, and my God is made my strength. |
| 6 Il (a donc) dit : C'est peu que tu sois mon serviteur pour relever les tribus de Jacob, et pour convertir les restes d'Israël ; je t'ai établi pour être la lumière des nations, et mon salut jusqu'à l'extrémité de la terre. | 6 And he said: It is a small thing that thou shouldst be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to convert the dregs of Israel. Behold, I have given thee to be the light of the Gentiles, that thou mayst be my salvation even to the farthest part of the earth. |
| 7 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, le rédempteur, le saint d'Israël, à (une) l'âme méprisée (méprisable), à la (une) nation détestée, à l'esclave des puissants : Les rois verront et les princes se lèveront, et ils (l') adoreront, à cause du Seigneur qui a été (est) fidèle, et du saint d'Israël qui t'a choisi. | 7 Thus saith the Lord the redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to the soul that is despised, to the nation that is abhorred, to the servant of rulers: Kings shall see, end princes shall rise up, and adore for the Lord's sake, because he is faithful, and for the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee. |
| 8 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Au (En) temps favorable je t'ai exaucé, et au jour du salut je t'ai secouru ; je t'ai conservé, et je t'ai établi pour (faire) (l')alliance du (avec un) peuple, pour relever le pays, pour posséder les héritages dissipés ; | 8 Thus saith the Lord: In an acceptable time I have heard thee, and in the day of salvation I have helped thee: and I have preserved thee, and given thee to be a covenant of the people, that thou mightest raise up the earth, and possess the inheritances that were destroyed: |
| 9 pour dire (que tu dises) à ceux qui sont dans les chaînes : Sortez ; et à ceux qui sont dans les ténèbres : paraissez. Ils paîtront sur les chemins, et toutes les plaines leur serviront de pâturages. | 9 That thou mightest say to them that are bound: Come forth: and to them that are in darkness: Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in every plain. |
| 10 Ils n'auront plus ni faim ni soif ; la chaleur et le soleil ne les frapperont plus, car celui qui a pitié d'eux les conduira et les mènera boire aux (à des) sources des (d') eaux. | 10 They shall not hunger, nor thirst, neither shall the heat nor the sun strike them: for he that is merciful to them, shall be their shepherd, and at the fountains of waters he shall give them drink. |
| 11 Alors je changerai toutes mes montagnes en chemin, et mes sentiers seront exhaussés (relevés). | 11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my paths shall be exalted. |
| 12 Voici, ceux-là viennent de loin, et ceux-ci (viendront) du septentrion et du couchant, et les autres de la terre du midi. | 12 Behold these shall come from afar, and behold these from the north and from the sea, and these from the south country. |
| 13 Cieux, louez-le ; terre, sois dans l'allégresse ; montagnes, faites retentir sa (la) louange, car le Seigneur consolera son peuple, et il aura pitié de ses pauvres. | 13 Give praise, O ye heavens, and rejoice, O earth, ye mountains, give praise with jubilation: because the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy on his poor ones. |
| 14 Cependant Sion a dit : Le Seigneur m'a abandonnée, et le Seigneur m'a oubliée. | 14 And Sion said: The Lord hath forsaken me, and the Lord hath forgotten me. |
| 15 Une femme (mère) peut-elle oublier son enfant, et n'avoir pas pitié du fils de ses entrailles ? Mais quand (même) elle l'oublierait, moi je ne t'oublierai pas. | 15 Can a woman forget her infant, so as not to have pity on the son of her womb? and if she should forget, yet will not I forget thee. |
| 16 Voici, je t'ai gravée sur mes mains ; tes murs sont toujours devant mes yeux. | 16 Behold, I have graven thee in my hands: thy walls are always before my eyes. |
| 17 Ceux qui doivent te rebâtir sont venus ; ceux qui t'ont détruite et dévastée sortiront du milieu de toi. | 17 Thy builders are come: they that destroy thee and make thee waste shall go out of thee. |
| 18 Lève les yeux tout autour, et vois : tous ceux-ci se sont rassemblés et sont venus pour (à) toi. Par ma vie (Je vis, moi), dit le Seigneur, tu te revêtiras d'eux tous comme d'une parure, et tu t'en ceindras comme une épouse ; | 18 Lift up thy eyes round about, and see all these are gathered together, they are come to thee: I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt be clothed with all these se with an ornament, and as a bride thou shalt put them about thee. |
| 19 car tes déserts, tes solitudes et ton pays ruiné seront désormais trop étroits pour leurs habitants, et ceux qui te dévoraient seront chassés (mis en fuite) loin de toi. | 19 For thy deserts, and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction shall now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, end they that swallowed thee up shall be chased far away. |
| 20 Les enfants de ta stérilité diront à tes oreilles : L'espace est trop étroit pour moi ; fais-moi de la place pour que j'y habite. | 20 The children of thy barrenness shall still say in thy ears: The place is too strait for me, make me room to dwell in. |
| 21 Et tu diras dans ton cœur : Qui me les a engendrés ? car j'étais stérile et je n'enfantais pas, j'étais exilée et captive. Et qui les a nourris ? car j'étais seule et abandonnée ; et ceux-ci, où étaient-ils ? | 21 And thou shalt-say in thy heart: Who hath begotten these? I was barren and brought not forth, led away, and captive: and who hath brought up these? I was destitute and alone: and these, where were they? |
| 22 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu : Je lèverai la main vers les (des) nations, et je dresserai mon étendard vers les (des) peuples. Et ils ramèneront tes fils entre leurs bras, et ils porteront tes filles sur leurs épaules. | 22 Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will lift up my hand to the Gentiles, and will set up my standard to the people. And they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and carry thy daughters upon their shoulders. |
| 23 Les rois seront tes nourriciers, et les reines tes nourrices ; ils t'adoreront en baisant le visage contre terre, et ils lécheront la poussière de tes pieds. Et tu sauras que je suis le Seigneur, et que ceux qui m'attendent ne seront pas confondus. | 23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and queens thy nurses: they shall worship thee with their face toward the earth, and they shall lick up the dust of thy feet. And thou shalt know that I am the Lord, for they shall not be confounded that wait for him. |
| 24 Peut-on ravir au puissant sa proie, et enlever à un homme robuste ceux qu'il a rendus captifs ? | 24 Shall the prey be taken from the strong? or can that which was taken by the mighty be delivered? |
| 25 Mais voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Oui, (Certainement) les captifs du (à un homme) puissant lui seront ravis ; et ceux que l'homme robuste avait pris lui seront enlevés. Je jugerai ceux qui t'avaient jugée, et je sauverai tes fils. | 25 For thus saith the Lord: Yea verily, even the captivity shall be taken away from the strong: and that which was taken by the mighty, shall be delivered. But I will judge those that have judged thee, and thy children I will save. |
| 26 Je ferai manger à tes ennemis leur propre chair ; ils seront enivrés de leur sang comme d'un vin nouveau ; et toute chair saura que je suis (c'est moi) le Seigneur qui te sauve, et que le fort de Jacob est ton rédempteur. | 26 And I will feed thy enemies with their own flesh: and they shall be made drunk with their own blood, as with new wine: and all flesh shall know, that I am the Lord that save thee, and thy Redeemer the Mighty One of Jacob. |
