| 1 Son temps est proche, et ses jours ne seront pas prolongés (différés) ; car le Seigneur aura pitié de Jacob, il se choisira encore des amis dans (fera encore choix d') Israël, et il les fera reposer dans leur pays ; les étrangers se joindront à eux, et s'attacheront à la maison de Jacob. | 1 For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob. |
| 2 Les peuples les prendront, et les reconduiront dans leur pays ; et la maison d'Israël les possédera dans la terre du Seigneur comme serviteurs et comme servantes ; (ainsi) ceux qui les avaient pris seront leurs captifs, et ils s'assujettiront leurs oppresseurs. | 2 And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. |
| 3 En ce temps-là, lorsque le Seigneur t'aura donné du repos après ta fatigue (ton travail) et ton agitation (oppression), et après la dure servitude qui t'avait été imposée, | 3 And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve, |
| 4 tu prononceras ce discours figuré contre le roi de Babylone, et tu diras : Qu'est devenu le tyran (l'exacteur) ? Comment le tribut a-t-il cessé ? | 4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! |
| 5 Le Seigneur a brisé le bâton des impies, la verge des dominateurs, | 5 The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers. |
| 6 celui qui dans son indignation frappait les peuples d'une plaie incurable, celui qui s'assujettissait les nations dans sa fureur, et qui les persécutait cruellement. | 6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth. |
| 7 Toute la terre est dans le repos et dans la paix (le silence), elle est dans la joie et dans l'allégresse (exultation) ; | 7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. |
| 8 les sapins mêmes et les cèdres du Liban se sont réjouis de ta perte : Depuis que tu es mort (dors), disent-ils, il ne monte personne pour nous abattre. | 8 Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us. |
| 9 Le séjour des morts (L'enfer au-dessous) s'est ému pour t'accueillir à (a été tout troublé au moment de) ton arrivée ; il a fait lever (t'a suscité) les géants (pour toi). Tous les princes de la terre, tous les princes des nations se sont levés de leurs trônes. | 9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. |
| 10 Tous prennent (élèveront) la parole ; pour te dire : Toi aussi, tu as été blessé comme nous, tu es devenu semblable à nous ! (.) | 10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? |
| 11 Ton orgueil a été précipité dans les enfers ; ton cadavre est tombé à terre ; sous toi est une couche de vers (la teigne), et les vers seront ton vêtement (ta couverture). | 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. |
| 12 Comment es-tu tombé du ciel, lucifer, toi qui te levais (si brillant) (dès) le matin ? comment as-tu été renversé sur la terre, toi qui frappais les nations ? | 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! |
| 13 qui disais en ton cœur : Je monterai au ciel, j'établirai mon trône au-dessus des astres de Dieu, je m'assiérai sur la montagne de l'alliance (du Testament), aux côtés de l'aquilon ; | 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: |
| 14 je monterai sur le sommet des nues, je serai semblable au Très-Haut ? (.) | 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. |
| 15 Mais tu as été précipité dans l'enfer, jusqu'au plus profond des abîmes (de la fosse). | 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. |
| 16 Ceux qui te verront se pencheront vers toi, et t'envisageront : Est-ce là cet homme qui a fait trembler la terre, qui a ébranlé les royaumes, | 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; |
| 17 qui a fait du monde (de l'univers) un désert, qui en a détruit les villes, et qui n'a pas ouvert la prison à ceux qu'il avait enchaînés ? | 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? |
| 18 Tous les rois des nations sont morts avec gloire, et chacun d'eux a son tombeau (maison) ; | 18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. |
| 19 mais toi, tu as été jeté loin de ton sépulcre comme un tronc inutile et tout souillé tu as été enveloppé dans la foule de ceux qui ont été tués par l'épée et qu'on fait descendre au fond de la fosse, comme un cadavre pourri (putréfié). | 19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. |
| 20 Tu ne leur seras pas uni dans le sépulcre, car tu as ruiné ton royaume ; et tu as fait périr ton peuple. On ne parlera plus jamais de la race des scélérats (n'existera pas éternellement). | 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. |
| 21 Préparez ses fils (enfants) pour le massacre, à cause de l'iniquité de leurs pères ; ils ne s'élèveront pas, ils ne posséderont pas la terre, et ils ne rempliront pas de villes la face du monde (globe). | 21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. |
| 22 Je m'élèverai contre eux, dit le Seigneur des armées ; je perdrai le nom de Babylone, et ses rejetons, et ses descendants (le germe), et toute sa race, dit le Seigneur ; | 22 For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD. |
| 23 J'en ferai la demeure des hérissons, et des marais pleins d'eau, et je la balayerai avec le balai (de la destruction) (en la raclant), dit le Seigneur des armées. | 23 I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts. |
| 24 Le Seigneur des armées a juré ; en disant : Oui, ce que j'ai pensé arrivera, et ce que j'ai arrêté dans mon esprit | 24 The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: |
| 25 s'exécutera ; je briserai l'Assyrien dans mon pays, et je le foulerai aux pieds sur mes montagnes ; et son joug leur sera enlevé, et son fardeau sera enlevé de leurs épaules. | 25 That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. |
| 26 C'est là le dessein que j'ai formé au sujet de toute la terre ; et voilà la main qui est étendue sur toutes les nations. | 26 This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. |
| 27 Car le Seigneur des armées l'a ordonné (décrété) ; qui pourra s'y opposer ? Sa main est étendue ; qui la détournera ? | 27 For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? |
| 28 (En) L'année de la mort du roi Achaz, cet oracle (cette prophétie accablante) fut prononcé(e). | 28 In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden. |
| 29 Ne te réjouis pas, (toi) terre (entière) des Philistins, de ce que la verge de celui qui te frappait a été brisée ; car de la racine du serpent il sortira un basilic, et ce qui en naîtra dévorera les oiseaux. | 29 Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. |
| 30 Alors les plus pauvres seront nourris, et les indigents se reposeront en sécurité (confiance) ; et je ferai mourir ta racine par la faim, et je perdrai ce qui restera de toi. | 30 And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant. |
| 31 Porte, pousse des hurlements ; ville, fais retentir des cris : tout le pays des Philistins est renversé ; car (c'est) de l'aquilon vient une (que viendra la) fumée, et nul ne pourra échapper à ses bataillons. | 31 Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times. |
| 32 Et que répondra-t-on aux envoyés de la nation ? Que (c'est) le Seigneur (qui) a fondé Sion, et que les pauvres de son peuple espéreront en lui. | 32 What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it. |
