| 1 Au reste, mes frères, priez pour nous, afin que la parole de Dieu ait un libre cours et soit glorifiée, comme elle l'est chez vous, | 1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you, |
| 2 et afin que nous soyons délivrés des hommes importuns et méchants; car tous n'ont pas la foi. | 2 and that we may be delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all have faith. |
| 3 Mais Dieu est fidèle, et Il vous affermira, et vous préservera du mal. | 3 But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. |
| 4 Nous avons à votre égard cette confiance dans le Seigneur, que vous faites et que vous ferez ce que nous vous prescrivons. | 4 We are confident of you in the Lord that what we instruct you, you (both) are doing and will continue to do. |
| 5 Que le Seigneur dirige vos coeurs dans l'amour de Dieu et dans la patience du Christ. | 5 May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of Christ. |
| 6 Nous vous ordonnons, frères, au nom de Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ, de vous éloigner de tout frère qui vit d'une manière déréglée, et non selon l'instruction qu'on a reçue de nous. | 6 We instruct you, brothers, in the name of (our) Lord Jesus Christ,to shun any brother who conducts himself in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us. |
| 7 Car vous savez vous-mêmes comment il faut nous imiter, puisque nous n'avons pas mené parmi vous une conduite irrégulière; | 7 For you know how one must imitate us. For we did not act in a disorderly way among you, |
| 8 et nous n'avons mangé gratuitement le pain de personne, mais nous avons travaillé nuit et jour avec peine et avec fatigue, pour n'être à charge à aucun de vous. | 8 nor did we eat food received free from anyone. On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked, so as not to burden any of you. |
| 9 Ce n'est pas que nous n'en eussions le droit; mais nous avons voulu vous donner en nous-mêmes un modèle à imiter. | 9 Not that we do not have the right. Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us. |
| 10 Car lorsque nous étions chez vous, nous vous déclarions que si quelqu'un ne veut pas travailler, il ne doit pas non plus manger. | 10 In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat. |
| 11 Nous apprenons cependant que quelques-uns parmi vous se conduisent d'une manière déréglée, ne travaillant pas, mais s'occupant de choses vaines. | 11 We hear that some are conducting themselves among you in a disorderly way, by not keeping busy but minding the business ofothers. |
| 12 Or nous ordonnons à ces personnes-là, et nous les conjurons par le Seigneur Jésus-Christ, de manger un pain qui soit le leur, en travaillant paisiblement. | 12 Such people we instruct and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and to eat their own food. |
| 13 Pour vous, frères, ne vous lassez point de faire le bien. | 13 But you, brothers, do not be remiss in doing good. |
| 14 Et si quelqu'un n'obéit pas à ce que nous ordonnons par cette lettre, notez-le, et n'ayez point de commerce avec lui, afin qu'il en ait de la confusion. | 14 If anyone does not obey our word as expressed in this letter, take note of this person not to associate with him, that he may be put to shame. |
| 15 Ne le regardez cependant pas comme un ennemi, mais reprenez-le comme un frère. | 15 Do not regard him as an enemy but admonish him as a brother. |
| 16 Que le Seigneur de la paix vous donne Lui-même la paix en tout temps et en tout lieu. Que le Seigneur soit avec vous tous. | 16 May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. |
| 17 Je vous salue, moi Paul, de ma propre main. C'est là mon signe dans toutes mes lettres; j'écris ainsi. | 17 This greeting is in my own hand, Paul's. This is the sign in every letter; this is how I write. |
| 18 Que la grâce de Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec vous tous! Amen. | 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you. |
