| 1 Le premier jour après le sabbat, de grand matin, elles vinrent au sépulcre, apportant les aromates qu'elles avaient préparés; | 1 And on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared. |
| 2 et elles trouvèrent la pierre roulée de devant le sépulcre. | 2 And they found the stone rolled back from the sepulchre. |
| 3 Etant entrées, elles ne trouvèrent point le corps du Seigneur Jésus. | 3 And going in, they found not the body of the Lord Jesus. |
| 4 Et tandis qu'elles étaient consternées de cela dans leur âme, voici que deux hommes parurent auprès d'elles, avec des vêtements resplendissants. | 4 And it came to pass, as they were astonished in their mind at this, behold, two men stood by them, in shining apparel. |
| 5 Et comme elles étaient saisies de frayeur, et qu'elles baissaient le visage vers la terre, ils leur dirent: Pourquoi cherchez-vous parmi les morts Celui qui est vivant? | 5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their countenance towards the ground, they said unto them: Why seek you the living with the dead? |
| 6 Il n'est point ici, mais Il est ressuscité. Souvenez-vous de quelle manière Il vous a parlé, lorsqu'Il était encore en Galilée, | 6 He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spoke unto you, when he was in Galilee, |
| 7 et qu'Il disait: Il faut que le Fils de l'homme soit livré entre les mains des pécheurs, qu'Il soit crucifié, et qu'Il ressuscite le troisième jour. | 7 Saying: The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. |
| 8 Et elles se ressouvinrent de Ses paroles. | 8 And they remembered his words. |
| 9 De retour du sépulcre, elles racontèrent toutes ces choses aux onze et à tous les autres. | 9 And going back from the sepulchre, they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. |
| 10 Ce furent Marie-Madeleine, Jeanne, et Marie mère de Jacques, et les autres qui étaient avec elles, qui rapportèrent ces choses aux Apôtres. | 10 And it was Mary Magdalen, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women that were with them, who told these things to the apostles. |
| 11 Mais ces paroles leur parurent comme du délire, et ils ne les crurent point. | 11 And these words seemed to them as idle tales; and they did not believe them. |
| 12 Cependant Pierre, se levant, courut au sépulcre; et s'étant baissé, il ne vit que les linges à terre; et il s'en alla, admirant en lui-même ce qui était arrivé. | 12 But Peter rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths laid by themselves; and went away wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. |
| 13 Et voici que ce même jour, deux d'entre eux allaient dans un bourg, nommé Emmaüs, éloigné de Jérusalem de soixante stades. | 13 And behold, two of them went, the same day, to a town which was sixty furlongs from Jerusalem, named Emmaus. |
| 14 Et ils s'entretenaient de toutes ces choses qui s'étaient passées. | 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. |
| 15 Or il arriva, pendant qu'ils parlaient et conféraient ensemble, que Jésus Lui-même S'approcha, et marchait avec eux. | 15 And it came to pass, that while they talked and reasoned with themselves, Jesus himself also drawing near, went with them. |
| 16 Mais une force empêchait leurs yeux de Le reconnaître. | 16 But their eyes were held, that they should not know him. |
| 17 Et Il leur dit: Quelles sont ces paroles que vous échangez en marchant, et pourquoi êtes-vous tristes? | 17 And he said to them: What are these discourses that you hold one with another as you walk, and are sad? |
| 18 Prenant la parole, l'un d'eux, nommé Cléophas, Lui dit: Etes-vous seul étranger dans Jérusalem, et ne savez-vous pas ce qui s'y est passé ces jours-ci? | 18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleophas, answering, said to him: Art thou only a stranger to Jerusalem, and hast not known the things that have been done there in these days? |
| 19 Quoi? leur dit-Il. Et ils répondirent: Touchant Jésus de Nazareth, qui a été un prophète puissant en oeuvres et en paroles, devant Dieu et devant tout le peuple; | 19 To whom he said: What things? And they said: Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in work and word before God and all the people; |
| 20 et comment les princes des prêtres et nos chefs L'ont livré pour être condamné à mort, et L'ont crucifié. | 20 And how our chief priests and princes delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him. |
| 21 Or nous espérions que c'était Lui qui rachèterait Israël; et maintenant, après tout cela, c'est aujourd'hui le troisième jour que ces choses se sont passées. | 21 But we hoped, that it was he that should have redeemed Israel: and now besides all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. |
| 22 Il est vrai que quelques femmes, qui sont des nôtres, nous ont effrayés. Etant allées avant le jour au sépulcre, | 22 Yea and certain women also of our company affrighted us, who before it was light, were at the sepulchre, |
| 23 et n'ayant pas trouvé Son corps, elles sont venues dire que des Anges leur ont apparu et ont affirmé qu'Il est vivant. | 23 And not finding his body, came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who say that he is alive. |
| 24 Quelques-uns des nôtres sont aussi allés au sépulcre, et ont trouvé les choses comme les femmes avaient dit; mais Lui, ils ne L'ont pas trouvé. | 24 And some of our people went to the sepulchre, and found it so as the women had said, but him they found not. |
| 25 Alors Il leur dit: O insensés, dont le coeur est lent à croire tout ce qu'ont dit les prophètes! | 25 Then he said to them: O foolish, and slow of heart to believe in all things which the prophets have spoken. |
| 26 Ne fallait-il pas que le Christ souffrît ces choses, et qu'Il entrât ainsi dans Sa gloire? | 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and so to enter into his glory? |
| 27 Et commençant par Moïse et par tous les prophètes, Il leur expliquait, dans toutes les Ecritures, ce qui Le concernait. | 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures, the things that were concerning him. |
| 28 Lorsqu'ils furent près du bourg où ils allaient, Il fit semblant d'aller plus loin. | 28 And they drew night to the town, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go farther. |
| 29 Mais ils Le pressèrent, en disant: Demeurez avec nous, car le soir arrive, et le jour est déjà sur son déclin. Et Il entra avec eux. | 29 But they constrained him; saying: Stay with us, because it is towards evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in with them. |
| 30 Et il arriva, pendant qu'Il était à table avec eux, qu'Il prit du pain, et le bénit, et le rompit, et Il le leur présentait. | 30 And it came to pass, whilst he was at table with them, he took bread, and blessed, and brake, and gave to them. |
| 31 Alors leurs yeux s'ouvrirent, et ils Le reconnurent; et Il disparut de devant eux. | 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight. |
| 32 Et ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: Est-ce que notre coeur n'était pas brûlant en nous, lorsqu'Il nous parlait sur le chemin, et qu'Il nous expliquait les Ecritures? | 32 And they said one to the other: Was not our heart burning within us, whilst he spoke in this way, and opened to us the scriptures? |
| 33 Et se levant à l'heure même, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem; et ils trouvèrent les onze, et ceux qui étaient avec eux, assemblés, | 33 And rising up, the same hour, they went back to Jerusalem: and they found the eleven gathered together, and those that were staying with them, |
| 34 et disant: Le Seigneur est vraiment ressuscité, et Il est apparu à Simon. | 34 Saying: The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. |
| 35 Et ils racontaient eux-mêmes ce qui s'était passé en chemin, et comment ils L'avaient reconnu lorsqu'Il rompait le pain. | 35 And they told what things were done in the way; and how they knew him in the breaking of the bread. |
| 36 Or, pendant qu'ils parlaient ainsi, Jésus parut au milieu d'eux et leur dit: La paix soit avec vous! C'est Moi, ne craignez point. | 36 Now whilst they were speaking these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them, and saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, fear not. |
| 37 Mais, troublés et épouvantés, ils croyaient voir un esprit. | 37 But they being troubled and frightened, supposed that they saw a spirit. |
| 38 Et Il leur dit: Pourquoi vous troublez-vous? et pourquoi de telles pensées s'élèvent-elles dans vos coeurs? | 38 And he said to them: Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? |
| 39 Voyez Mes mains et Mes pieds; c'est bien Moi; touchez et voyez: un esprit n'a ni chair ni os, comme vous voyez que J'en ai. | 39 See my hands and feet, that it is I myself; handle, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to have. |
| 40 Et après avoir dit cela, Il leur montra Ses mains et Ses pieds. | 40 And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and feet. |
| 41 Mais comme ils ne croyaient point encore et qu'ils s'étonnaient, transportés de joie, Il dit: Avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger? | 41 But while they yet believed not, and wondered for joy, he said: Have you any thing to eat? |
| 42 Ils Lui présentèrent un morceau de poisson rôti et un rayon de miel. | 42 And they offered him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb. |
| 43 Et après qu'Il en eut mangé devant eux, prenant les restes, Il les leur donna. | 43 And when he had eaten before them, taking the remains, he gave to them. |
| 44 Et Il leur dit: C'est ce que Je vous disais lorsque J'étais encore avec vous, qu'il fallait que s'accomplît tout ce que a été écrit de Moi dans la loi de Moïse, dans les prophètes et dans les psaumes. | 44 And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. |
| 45 Alors Il leur ouvrit l'esprit, afin qu'ils comprissent les Ecritures. | 45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. |
| 46 Et Il leur dit: C'est ainsi qu'il est écrit, et c'est ainsi qu'il fallait que le Christ souffrît, et qu'Il ressuscitât d'entre les morts le troisième jour, | 46 And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, the third day: |
| 47 et qu'on prêchât en Son nom la pénitence et la rémission des péchés dans toutes les nations, en commençant par Jérusalem. | 47 And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. |
| 48 Or vous êtes témoins de ces choses. | 48 And you are witnesses of these things. |
| 49 Et Moi, Je vais envoyer en vous le don promis par Mon Père; mais demeurez dans la ville, jusqu'à ce que vous soyez revêtus de la force d'en haut. | 49 And I send the promise of my Father upon you: but stay you in the city till you be endued with power from on high. |
| 50 Puis Il les conduisit dehors, vers Béthanie; et ayant levé les mains, Il les bénit. | 50 And he led them out as far as Bethania: and lifting up his hands, he blessed them. |
| 51 Et il arriva, tandis qu'Il les bénissait, qu'Il Se sépara d'eux, et Il était enlevé au Ciel. | 51 And it came to pass, whilst he blessed them, he departed from them, and was carried up to heaven. |
| 52 Et eux, L'ayant adoré, revinrent à Jérusalem avec une grande joie; | 52 And they adoring went back into Jerusalem with great joy. |
| 53 et ils étaient sans cesse dans le temple, louant et bénissant Dieu. Amen. | 53 And they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. |
