| 7 Les cheveux même de votre tête sont tous comptés. Ne craignez donc point; vous valez plus que beaucoup de passereaux. | 7 Why, every hair on your head has been counted. There is no need to be afraid: you are worth morethan many sparrows. |
| 8 Or, Je vous le dis, quiconque Me confessera devant les hommes, le Fils de l'homme le confessera aussi devant les Anges de Dieu. | 8 'I tel you, if anyone openly declares himself for me in the presence of human beings, the Son of manwil declare himself for him in the presence of God's angels. |
| 9 Mais celui que M'aura renié devant les hommes sera renié devant les Anges de Dieu. | 9 But anyone who disowns me in the presence of human beings wil be disowned in the presence ofGod's angels. |
| 10 Et à quiconque prononcera une parole contre le Fils de l'homme, il sera pardonné; mais à celui qui aura blasphémé contre le Saint-Esprit, il ne sera point pardonné. | 10 'Everyone who says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven, but no one who blasphemesagainst the Holy Spirit wil be forgiven. |
| 11 Lorsqu'on vous conduira dans les synagogues, et devant les magistrats et les autorités, ne vous inquiétez point de quelle manière ou de ce que vous répondrez, ni de ce que vous direz; | 11 'When they take you before synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how todefend yourselves or what to say, |
| 12 car l'Esprit-Saint vous enseignera, à l'heure même, ce qu'il faudra que vous disiez. | 12 because when the time comes, the Holy Spirit wil teach you what you should say.' |
| 13 Alors quelqu'un de la foule Lui dit: Maître, dites à mon frère de partager avec moi notre héritage. | 13 A man in the crowd said to him, 'Master, tel my brother to give me a share of our inheritance.' |
| 14 Mais Jésus lui répondit: Homme, qui M'a établi sur vous juge ou faiseur de partages? | 14 He said to him, 'My friend, who appointed me your judge, or the arbitrator of your claims?' |
| 15 Puis Il leur dit: Voyez, et gardez-vous de toute avarice; car un homme fût-il dans l'abondance, sa vie ne dépend pas des biens qu'il possède. | 15 Then he said to them, 'Watch, and be on your guard against avarice of any kind, for life does notconsist in possessions, even when someone has more than he needs.' |
| 16 Il leur dit ensuite cette parabole: Le champ d'un homme riche lui rapporta des fruits abondants. | 16 Then he told them a parable, 'There was once a rich man who, having had a good harvest from hisland, |
| 17 Et il pensait en lui-même, disant: Que ferai-je? car je n'ai pas où serrer mes fruits. | 17 thought to himself, "What am I to do? I have not enough room to store my crops." |
| 18 Et il dit: Voici ce que je ferai: j'abattrai mes greniers et j'en bâtirai de plus grands, et j'y amasserai tous mes produits et mes biens. | 18 Then he said, "This is what I will do: I wil pul down my barns and build bigger ones, and store al mygrain and my goods in them, |
| 19 Et je dirai à mon âme: Mon âme, tu as beaucoup de biens en réserve pour de nombreuses années; repose-toi, mange, bois, fais bonne chère. | 19 and I will say to my soul: My soul, you have plenty of good things laid by for many years to come;take things easy, eat, drink, have a good time." |
| 20 Mais Dieu lui dit: Insensé, cette nuit même on te redemandera ton âme; et ce que tu as préparé, à qui sera-ce? | 20 But God said to him, "Fool! This very night the demand wil be made for your soul; and this hoard ofyours, whose wil it be then?" |
| 21 Ainsi en est-il de celui qui amasse des trésors pour lui-même, et qui n'est pas riche pour Dieu. | 21 So it is when someone stores up treasure for himself instead of becoming rich in the sight of God.' |
| 22 Il dit ensuite à Ses disciples: C'est pourquoi Je vous le dis, ne soyez point inquiets pour votre vie, de ce que vous mangerez; ni pour votre corps, de quoi vous serez vêtus. | 22 Then he said to his disciples, 'That is why I am tel ing you not to worry about your life and what youare to eat, nor about your body and how you are to clothe it. |
| 23 La vie est plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement. | 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. |
| 24 Considérez les corbeaux: ils ne sèment, ni ne moissonnent; ils n'ont ni cellier, ni grenier; cependant Dieu les nourrit. Combien ne valez-vous pas plus qu'eux! | 24 Think of the ravens. They do not sow or reap; they have no storehouses and no barns; yet God feedsthem. And how much more you are worth than the birds! |
| 25 Mais qui de vous, en réfléchissant, peut ajouter à sa taille une coudée? | 25 Can any of you, however much you worry, add a single cubit to your span of life? |
| 26 Si donc vous ne pouvez pas même ce qu'il y a de moindre, pourquoi vous inquiétez-vous des autres choses? | 26 If a very smal thing is beyond your powers, why worry about the rest? |
| 27 Considérez les lis, comme ils croissent: ils ne travaillent, ni ne filent; cependant, Je vous le dis, Salomon lui-même, dans toute sa gloire, n'était pas vêtu comme l'un d'eux. | 27 Think how the flowers grow; they never have to spin or weave; yet, I assure you, not even Solomon inal his royal robes was clothed like one of them. |
| 28 Si donc Dieu revêt ainsi l'herbe qui est aujourd'hui dans les champs, et qui demain sera jetée au four, combien plus vous-mêmes, hommes de peu de foi! | 28 Now if that is how God clothes a flower which is growing wild today and is thrown into the furnacetomorrow, how much more wil he look after you, who have so little faith! |
| 29 Et vous, ne vous préoccupez pas de ce que vous mangerez ou de ce que vous boirez, et ne vous élevez pas si haut. | 29 But you must not set your hearts on things to eat and things to drink; nor must you worry. |
| 30 Car ce sont les païens du monde qui recherchent toutes ces choses; mais votre Père sait que vous en avez besoin. | 30 It is the gentiles of this world who set their hearts on al these things. Your Father wel knows youneed them. |
| 31 C'est pourquoi, cherchez premièrement le royaume de Dieu et Sa justice, et toutes ces choses vous seront données par surcroît. | 31 No; set your hearts on his kingdom, and these other things will be given you as well. |
| 32 Ne craignez point, petit troupeau; car il a plu à votre Père de vous donner le royaume. | 32 'There is no need to be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom. |
| 33 Vendez ce que vous possédez et donnez-le en aumônes; faites-vous des bourses qui ne s'usent point, un trésor inépuisable dans les Cieux, dont le voleur n'approche pas et que le ver ne détruit pas. | 33 'Sel your possessions and give to those in need. Get yourselves purses that do not wear out,treasure that wil not fail you, in heaven where no thief can reach it and no moth destroy it. |
| 34 Car où est votre trésor, là sera aussi votre coeur. | 34 For wherever your treasure is, that is where your heart wil be too. |
| 35 Que vos reins soient ceints, et les lampes allumées dans vos mains. | 35 'See that you have your belts done up and your lamps lit. |
| 36 Et vous, soyez semblables à des hommes qui attendent que leur maître revienne des noces, afin que, lorsqu'il arrivera et frappera, ils lui ouvrent aussitôt. | 36 Be like people waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, ready to open the door assoon as he comes and knocks. |
| 37 Heureux ces serviteurs que le maître, à son arrivée, trouvera veillant; en vérité, Je vous le dis, il se ceindra, les fera asseoir à table, et passant devant eux, il les servira. | 37 Blessed those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. | 39 Or sachez que, si le père de famille savait à quelle heure le voleur doit venir, il veillerait certainement, et ne laisserait pas percer sa maison. | 39 You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what time the burglar wouldcome, he would not have let anyone break through the wall of his house. |
| 40 Vous aussi, soyez prêts; car, à l'heure que vous ne pensez pas, le Fils de l'homme viendra. | 40 You too must stand ready, because the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.' |
| 41 Alors Pierre Lui dit: Seigneur, est-ce à nous que Vous adressez cette parabole, ou est-ce à tous? | 41 Peter said, 'Lord, do you mean this parable for us, or for everyone?' |
| 42 Et le Seigneur lui dit: Quel est, penses-tu, le dispensateur fidèle et prudent, que le maître a établi sur ses serviteurs pour leur donner, au temps fixé, leur mesure de blé? | 42 The Lord replied, 'Who, then, is the wise and trustworthy steward whom the master wil place over hishousehold to give them at the proper time their al owance of food? |
| 43 Heureux ce serviteur, que le maître, à son arrivée, trouvera agissant ainsi! | 43 Blessed that servant if his master's arrival finds him doing exactly that. |
| 44 Mais si ce serviteur dit en son coeur: Mon maître tarde à venir, et s'il se met à frapper les serviteurs et les servantes, à manger, à boire et à s'enivrer, | 44 I tel you truly, he wil put him in charge of everything that he owns. |
| 45 But if the servant says to himself, "My master is taking his time coming," and sets about beating themenservants and the servant-girls, and eating and drinking and getting drunk, |
| 46 le maître de ce serviteur viendra au jour où il ne s'y attend pas et à l'heure qu'il ne sait pas, et il le retranchera, et lui donnera sa part avec les infidèles. | 46 his master wil come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. The master willcut him off and send him to the same fate as the unfaithful. |
| 47 Le serviteur qui a connu la volonté de son maître, et n'a rien préparé, et n'a pas agi selon sa volonté, recevra un grand nombre de coups; | 47 'The servant who knows what his master wants, but has got nothing ready and done nothing inaccord with those wishes, wil be given a great many strokes of the lash. |
| 48 mais celui qui ne l'a pas connue, et qui a fait des choses dignes de châtiment, recevra peu de coups. A quiconque beaucoup aura été donné, beaucoup sera demandé; et de celui à qui on a confié beaucoup, on exigera davantage. | 48 The one who did not know, but has acted in such a way that he deserves a beating, will be givenfewer strokes. When someone is given a great deal, a great deal wil be demanded of that person; whensomeone is entrusted with a great deal, of that person even more will be expected. |
| 49 Je suis venu jeter le feu sur la terre, et quel est Mon désir, sinon qu'il s'allume? | 49 'I have come to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were blazing already! |
| 50 J'ai à être baptisé d'un baptême, et comme Je Me sens pressé jusqu'à ce qu'il s'accomplisse! | 50 There is a baptism I must stil receive, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! |
| 51 Pensez-vous que Je sois venu apporter la paix sur la terre? Non, vous dis-Je, mais la division. | 51 'Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tel you, but rather division. |
| 52 Car désormais, dans une même maison, cinq seront divisés: trois contre deux, et deux contre trois. | 52 For from now on, a household of five will be divided: three against two and two against three; |
| 53 Seront divisés: le père contre le fils et le fils contre son père, la mère contre la fille et la fille contre la mère, la belle-mère contre sa belle-fille et la belle-fille contre sa belle-mère. | 53 father opposed to son, son to father, mother to daughter, daughter to mother, mother-in-law todaughter-in-law, daughter-in-law to mother-in-law.' |
| 54 Il disait aussi aux foules: Lorsque vous voyez un nuage s'élever à l'occident, vous dites aussitôt: La pluie vient; et il arrive ainsi. | 54 He said again to the crowds, 'When you see a cloud looming up in the west you say at once that rainis coming, and so it does. |
| 55 Et quand vous voyez souffler le vent du midi, vous dites: Il fera chaud; et cela arrive. | 55 And when the wind is from the south you say it's going to be hot, and it is. |
| 56 Hypocrites, vous savez apprécier l'aspect du ciel et de la terre; comment donc n'appréciez-vous pas ce temps-ci? | 56 Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the face of the earth and the sky. How is it you do not knowhow to interpret these times? |
| 57 Comment ne discernez-vous pas aussi par vous-mêmes ce que est juste? | 57 'Why not judge for yourselves what is upright? |
| 58 Lorsque tu vas avec ton adversaire devant le magistrat, tâche de te dégager de lui en chemin, de peur qu'il ne te traîne devant le juge, et que le juge ne te livre à l'exécuteur, et que l'exécuteur ne te mette en prison. | 58 For example: when you are going to court with your opponent, make an effort to settle with him on theway, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the officer and the officer have youthrown into prison. |
