| 2 Jusques à quand, Seigneur, crierai-je sans que Vous m'écoutiez? jusques à quand élèverai-je ma voix vers Vous, souffrant violence, sans que Vous me sauviez? | 2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save! |
| 3 Pourquoi me montrez-Vous l'iniquité et la douleur, me faites-Vous Voir devant moi la rapine et l'injustice? Si l'on juge d'une affaire, c'est la passion qui l'emporte. | 3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. |
| 4 Aussi la loi est déchirée, et la justice ne parvient pas à son terme; parce que le méchant prévaut contre le juste, l'on rend des jugements iniques. | 4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth. |
| 5 Jetez les yeux sur les nations, et voyez; soyez surpris et frappés d'étonnement; car il se produira de vos jours une chose que nul ne croira lorsqu'elle sera racontée. | 5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you. |
| 6 Car voici, Je vais susciter les Chaldéens, nation cruelle et impétueuse, qui parcourt la surface de la terre, pour s'emparer de demeures qui ne sont point à elle. | 6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs. |
| 7 Elle est effroyable et terrible, d'elle-même viennent son droit et sa puissance. | 7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves. |
| 8 Ses chevaux sont plus légers que les léopards et plus rapides que les loups du soir; ses cavaliers se répandent partout; ils viennent de loin, ils volent comme l'aigle qui fond sur sa proie. | 8 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat. |
| 9 Ils viendront tous au butin; leur visage est un vent brûlant, et ils rassembleront les captifs comme le sable. | 9 They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand. |
| 10 Il triomphera des rois, et il se rira des tyrans; il se moquera de toutes les forteresses; il leur opposera des levées de terre, et il les prendra. | 10 And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it. |
| 11 Alors son esprit changera, il passera et il tombera; telle est la force qu'il tiendra de son dieu. | 11 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god. |
| 12 N'êtes-Vous pas dès le commencement, Seigneur, mon Dieu et mon Saint? nous ne mourrons donc pas. Seigneur, Vous avez établi ce peuple pour exercer Vos jugements, et Vous l'avez rendu fort pour infliger Vos châtiments. | 12 Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction. |
| 13 Vos yeux sont purs pour ne pas voir le mal, et Vous ne pouvez regarder l'iniquité. Pourquoi donc regardez-Vous ceux qui commettent l'iniquité, et demeurez-Vous en silence pendant que l'impie dévore celui qui est plus juste que lui? | 13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he? |
| 14 Et pourquoi traitez-Vous les hommes comme les poissons de la mer, et comme les reptiles qui n'ont pas de chef? | 14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? |
| 15 Il les enlève tous avec l'hameçon; il les entraîne dans son filet, et il les amasse dans son rets. Aussi est-il dans la joie et dans l'allégresse. | 15 They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad. |
| 16 C'est pourquoi il immolera des victimes à son filet, et il sacrifiera à son rets, car c'est par eux que sa portion est grasse et que sa nourriture est exquise. | 16 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous. |
| 17 C'est donc pour cela qu'il étend son filet, et qu'il ne cesse d'égorger les nations. | 17 Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations? |
