| 1 Et il arriva, dans la septième année, le dixième jour du cinquième mois, que quelques-uns des anciens d'Israël vinrent pour consulter le Seigneur, et ils s'assirent devant moi. | 1 And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month: there came men of the ancients of Israel to inquire of the Lord, and they sat before me. |
| 2 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée en ces termes: | 2 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: |
| 3 Fils de l'homme, parle aux anciens d'Israël, et dis leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Est-ce pour Me consulter que vous êtes venus? Par Ma vie, Je ne vous répondrai pas, dit le Seigneur Dieu. | 3 Son of man, speak to the ancients of Israel, and say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Are you come to inquire of me? As I live, I will not answer you, saith the Lord God. |
| 4 Si tu les juges, si tu les juges, fils de l'homme, montre-leur les abominations de leurs pères. | 4 If thou judgest them, if thou judgest, son of man, declare to them the abominations of their fathers. |
| 5 Et tu leur diras: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Le jour où Je choisis Israël, où Je levai Ma main en faveur de la race de la maison de Jacob, où Je leur apparus dans la terre d'Egypte, et où Je levai Ma main en leur faveur, en disant: Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu; | 5 And say to them: Thus saith the Lord God : In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up my hand for the race of the house of Jacob: and appeared to them in the land of Egypt, and lifted up my hand for them, saying: I am the Lord your God: |
| 6 en ce jour-là, Je levai Ma main pour les tirer de la terre d'Egypte, et pour les conduire dans le pays que J'avais choisi pour eux, pays où coulent le lait et le miel, le plus beau de tous les pays. | 6 In that day I lifted up my hand for them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt, into a land which I had provided for them, flowing with milk and honey, which excelleth amongst all lands. |
| 7 Je leur dis alors: Que chacun éloigne de soi le scandales de ses yeux, et ne vous souillez point par les idoles de l'Egypte; Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu. | 7 And I said to them: Let every man cast away the scandals of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the Lord your God. |
| 8 Mais ils m'ont irrité et n'ont pas voulu M'écouter; aucun n'a rejeté les abominations de ses yeux, et ils n'ont pas abandonné les idoles de l'Egypte. J'avais résolu de répandre Mon indignation sur eux et d'assouvir Ma colère contre eux, au milieu du pays d'Egypte; | 8 But they provoked me, and would not hearken to me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of his eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: and I said I would pour out my indignation upon them, and accomplish my wrath against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. |
| 9 mais J'ai agi par égard pour Mon nom, afin qu'il ne fût pas déshonoré en face des nations au milieu desquelles ils étaient, et devant lesquelles Je leur avais apparu pour les faire sortir du pays d'Egypte. | 9 But I did otherwise for my name's sake, that it might not be violated before the nations, in the midst of whom they were, and among whom I made myself known to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt. |
| 10 Je les ai donc fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, et Je les ai conduits dans le désert, | 10 Therefore I brought them out from the land of Egypt, and brought them into the desert. |
| 11 et Je leur ai donné Mes lois et Je leur ai montré Mes ordonnances, que l'homme doit accomplir pour vivre par elles; | 11 And I gave them my statutes, and I shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them. |
| 12 en outre Je leur ai donné Mes sabbats, comme un signe entre Moi et eux, et afin qu'ils sussent que Je suis le Seigneur qui les sanctifie. | 12 Moreover I gave them also my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them: and that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them. |
| 13 Mais la maison d'Israël M'a irrité dans le désert: ils n'ont pas marché dans Mes préceptes, ils ont rejeté Mes ordonnances, que l'homme doit accomplir pour vivre par elle, et ils ont profané violemment Mes sabbats. Je résolus donc de répandre Ma fureur sur eux dans le désert, et de les exterminer; | 13 But the house of Israel provoked me in the desert: they walked not in my statutes, and they cast away my judgments, which if a man do he shall live in them: and they grievously violated my sabbaths. I said therefore that I would pour out my indignation upon them in the desert, and would consume them. |
| 14 mais J'ai agi par égard pour Mon nom, afin qu'il ne fût pas déshonoré en face des nations du milieu et aux yeux desquelles Je les avais fait sortir. | 14 But I spared them for the sake of my name, lest it should be profaned before the nations, from which I brought them out, in their sight. |
| 15 J'ai donc levé Ma main sur eux dans le désert, afin de ne pas les faire entrer dans le pays que Je leur avais donné, pays où coulent le lait et le miel, et le premier de tous les pays; | 15 So I lifted up my hand over them in the desert, not to bring them into the land which I had given them flowing with milk and honey, the best of all lands. |
| 16 parce qu'ils avaient rejeté Mes ordonnances, qu'ils n'avaient pas marché dans Mes préceptes, et qu'ils avaient violé Mes sabbats, car leur coeur marchait après leurs idoles. | 16 Because they cast off my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, and violated my sabbaths: for their heart went after idols. |
| 17 Cependant Mon oeil les a épargnés, et Je ne les ai pas fait mourir, et Je ne les ai pas exterminés dans le désert. | 17 Yet my eye spared them, so that I destroyed them not: neither did I consume them in the desert. |
| 18 J'ai dit à leurs enfants dans le désert: Ne marchez pas dans les préceptes de vos pères, ne gardez pas leurs coutumes, et ne vous souillez point par leurs idoles. | 18 And I said to their children in the wilderness: Walk not in the statutes of your fathers, and observe not their judgments, nor be ye defiled with their idols: |
| 19 Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu: marchez dans Mes préceptes, gardez Mes ordonnances. et pratiquez-les. | 19 I am the Lord your God: walk ye in my statutes, and observe my judgments, and do them. |
| 20 Sanctifiez Mes sabbats, afin qu'ils soient comme un signe entre Moi et vous, et que vous sachiez que Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu. | 20 And sanctify my sabbaths, that they may be a sign between me and you: and that you may know that I am the Lord your God. |
| 21 Mais leurs enfants M'ont exaspéré; ils n'ont pas marché dans Mes préceptes, ils n'ont pas gardé ni pratiqué Mes ordonnances, que l'homme doit accomplir pour vivre, et ils ont violé Mes sabbats. Je les ai menacês de répandre Ma fureur sur eux, et d'assouvir Ma colère contre eux dans le désert. | 21 But their children provoked me, they walked not in my commandments, nor observed my judgments to do them: which if a man do, he shell live in them: and they violated my sabbaths: and I threatened to pour out my indignation upon them, and to accomplish my wrath in them in the desert. |
| 22 Mais J'ai détourné Ma main, et J'ai agi à cause de Mon nom, afin qu'il ne fût pas déshonoré devant les nations du milieu et aux yeux desquelles Je les avais fait sortir. | 22 But I turned away my hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it might not be violated before the nations, out of which I brought them forth in their sight. |
| 23 J'ai encore levé Ma main contre eux dans le désert, pour les disperser parmi les nations et les disséminer en divers pays, | 23 Again I lifted up my hand upon them in the wilderness, to disperse them among the nations, and scatter them through the countries : |
| 24 parce qu'ils n'avaient pas accompli Mes ordonnances, qu'ils avaient rejeté Mes préceptes et violé Mes sabbats, et que leurs yeux s'étaient dirigés vers les idoles de leurs pères. | 24 Because they had not done my judgments, and had cast off my statutes, and had violated my sabbaths, and their eyes had been after the idols of their fathers. |
| 25 C'est pourquoi Je leur ai donné des préceptes qui n'étaient pas bons, et des ordonnances par lesquelles ils ne pouvaient pas vivre. | 25 Therefore I also gave them statutes that were not good, and judgments, in which they shall not live. |
| 26 Et Je les ai souillés par leurs présents, lorsqu'ils offraient pour leurs péchés tous leurs premiers-nés; et ils sauront que Je suis le Seigneur. | 26 And I polluted them in their own gifts, when they offered all that opened the womb, for their offences: and they shall know that I am the Lord. |
| 27 C'est pourquoi, fils de l'homme, parle à la maison d'Israël, et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Vos pères M'ont encore blasphémé de cette manière, après M'avoir dédaigné et méprisé, | 27 Wherefore speak to the house of Israel, O son of man, and say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Moreover in this also your fathers blasphemed me, when they had despised and contemned me; |
| 28 lorsque Je les eus fait entrer dans le pays que J'avais juré de leur donner: ils ont jeté les yeux sur toute colline élevée et sur tout arbre touffu, et ils y ont immolé leurs victimes, ils y ont excité Ma colère par leurs offrandes, et ils y ont mis leurs parfums les plus suaves, et ils y ont répandu leurs libations. | 28 And I had brought them into the land, for which I lifted up my hand to give it them: they saw every high hill, and every shady tree, and there they sacrificed their victims: and there they presented the provocation of their offerings, and there they set their sweet odours, and poured forth their libations. |
| 29 Je leur ai dit alors: Quel est ce haut lieu où vous allez? Et ce nom de haut a êtê employé jusqu'à ce jour. | 29 And I said to them: What meaneth the high place to which you go? and the name thereof was called High-place even to this day. |
| 30 C'est pourquoi dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Certes, vous vous souillez dans les voies de vos pères, et vous vous prostituez après ce qui a causé leur chute, | 30 Wherefore say to the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord God: Verily, you are defiled in the way of your fathers, and you commit fornication with their abominations. |
| 31 et, par l'oblation de vos dons, lorsque vous faites passer vos enfants par le feu, vous vous souillez par toutes vos idoles jusqu'à ce jour. Et Je vous répondrais, maison d'Israël? Par Ma vie, dit le Seigneur Dieu, Je ne vous répondrai pas. | 31 And you defile yourselves with all your: idols unto this day, in the offering of your gifts, when you make your children pass through the fire: and shall I answer you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord God, I will not answer you. |
| 32 La pensée de votre esprit ne s'accomplira pas, vous qui dites: Nous serons comme les nations et comme les peuples de la terre, et nous adorerons le bois et les pierres. | 32 Neither shall the thought of your mind come to pass, by which you say: We will be as the Gentiles, and as the families of the earth, to worship stocks and stones. |
| 33 Par Ma vie, dit le Seigneur Dieu, Je régnerai sur vous avec une main forte, avec un bras étendu, et dans l'effusion de Ma fureur. | 33 As I live, saith the Lord God, I will reign over you with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out. |
| 34 Je vous ferai sortir du milieu des peuples, et Je vous rassemblerai des pays où vous avez été dispersés, et Je régnerai sur vous avec une main forte, avec un bras étendu et dans l'effusion de Ma fureur. | 34 And I will bring you out from the people, and I will gather you out of the countries, in which you are scattered, I will reign over you with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out. |
| 35 Je vous amènerai dans le désert des peuples, et Je plaiderai là avec vous face à face. | 35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of people, and there will I plead with you face to face. |
| 36 Comme Je suis entré en jugement avec vos pères dans le désert du pays d'Egypte, ainsi Je vous jugerai, dit le Seigneur Dieu. | 36 As I pleaded against your fathers in the desert of the land of Egypt; even so will I judge you, saith the Lord God. |
| 37 Je vous assujettirai à Mon sceptre, et Je vous amènerai dans les liens de l'alliance. | 37 And I will make you subject to my sceptre, and will bring you into the bands of the covenant. |
| 38 Je choisirai parmi vous les transgresseurs et les impies, Je les ferai sortir du pays où ils demeuraient comme étrangers, et ils n'entreront pas dans le pays d'Israël; et vous saurez que Je suis le Seigneur. | 38 And I will pick out from among you the transgressors, and the wicked, and will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and you shall know that I am the Lord. |
| 39 Et vous, maison d'Israël, ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Marchez chacun derrière vos idoles, et servez-les. Que si en cela encore vous ne M'écoutez pas, et si vous profanez encore Mon saint nom par vos présents et par vos idoles, | 39 And as for you, O house of Israel: thus saith the Lord God: Walk ye every one after your idols, and serve them. But if in this also you hear me not, but defile my holy name any more with your gifts, and with your idols; |
| 40 c'est sur Ma montagne sainte, sur la haaute montagne d'Israël, dit le Seigneur Dieu, que Me servira toute la maison d'Israël; tous, dis-je, Me servirons dans le pays où ils Me seront agréables; et c'est là que Je demanderai vos prémices et les offrandes de vos dîmes, dans tout ce que vous Me consacrerez. | 40 In my holy mountain, in the high mountain of Israel, saith the Lord God, there shall all the house of Israel serve me; all of them I say, in the land in which they shall please me, and there will I require your firstfruits, and the chief of your tithes with all your sanctifications. |
| 41 Je vous recevrai comme un parfum d'agréable odeur, lorsque Je vous aurai retirés du milieu des peuples, et que Je vous aurai rassemblés des pays où vous avez été dispersés; et Je serai sanctifié parmi vous aux yeux des nations. | 41 I will accept of you for an odour of sweetness, when I shall have brought you out from the people, and shall have gathered you out of the lands into which you are scattered, and I will be sanctified in you in the sight of the nations. |
| 42 Et vous saurez que Je suis le Seigneur, lorsque Je vous aurai ramenés dans le pays d'Israël, dans le pays que J'avais juré à vos pères de leur donner. | 42 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have brought you into the land of Israel, into the land for which I lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers. |
| 43 Là vous vous souviendrez de vos voies, et de tous les crimes dont vous vous êtes souillés; et vous vous déplairez à vous-mêmes, à la vue de toutes les méchancetés que vous avez faites. | 43 And there you shall remember your ways, and all your wicked doings with which you have been defiled; and you shall be displeased with yourselves in your own sight, for all your wicked deeds which you committed. |
| 44 Et vous saurez que Je suis le Seigneur, lorsque Je vous aurai fait du bien à cause de Mon nom, au lieu de vous traiter selon vos voies mauvaises, et selon vos crimes détestables, maison d'Israël, dit le Seigneur Dieu. | 44 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have done well by you for my own name's sake, and not according to your evil ways, nor according to your wicked deeds, O house of Israel, saith the Lord God. |
| 45 La parole du Seigneur me fut adressée en ces termes: | 45 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying : |
| 46 Fils de l'homme, tourne ton visage vers le chemin du midi, parle vers le vent d'Afrique, et prophétise à la forêt du champ du midi. | 46 Son of man, set thy face against the way of the south, and drop towards the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field. |
| 47 Tu diras à la forêt du midi: Ecoute la parole du Seigneur; ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Voici, Je vais allumer un feu en toi, et Je brûlerai en toi tout arbre vert et tout arbre sec; la flamme allumée ne s'éteindra pas, et tout visage y sera brûlé depuis le midi jusqu'à l'aquilon; | 47 And any to the south forest: Hear the word of the Lord: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will kindle a fire in thee, and will burn in thee every green tree, and every dry tree: the dame of the fire shall not be quenched: and every face shall be burned in it, from the south even to the north. |
| 48 et toute chair verra que Moi, le Seigneur, Je l'ai incendiée, et le feu ne s'éteindra pas. | 48 And all flesh shall see, that I the Lord have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched. |
| 49 Je dis alors: Hélas! hélas! hélas! Seigneur Dieu; ils disent de moi: Est-ce que cet homme ne parle pas en paraboles? | 49 And I said: Ah, ah, ah, O Lord God: they say of me: Doth not this man speak by parables? |
