| 1 Parole que le Seigneur adressa à Jérémie en ces temps: | 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: |
| 2 Tiens-toi à la porte de la maison du Seigneur, et là proclame cette parole, et dis : Ecoutez la parole du Seigneur, vous tous, habitants de Juda, qui entrez par ces portes pour adorer le Seigneur. | 2 “Stand at the gate to the house of the Lord, and preach this word there, and say: Listen to the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who enter through these gates to adore the Lord. |
| 3 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : Redressez vos voies et vos penchants, et J'habiterai avec vous dans ce lieu. | 3 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Make your ways and your intentions good, and I will live with you in this place. |
| 4 Ne vous fiez pas à des paroles de mensonge, en disant : C'est ici le temple du Seigneur, le temple du Seigneur, le temple du Seigneur! | 4 Do not choose to trust in lying words, saying: ‘This is the temple of the Lord! The temple of the Lord! The temple of the Lord!’ |
| 5 Car si vous dirigez bien vos voies et vos penchants, si vous rendez justice à l'un comme à l'autre, | 5 For if you direct your ways and your intentions well, if you exercise judgment between a man and his neighbor, |
| 6 si vous ne faites pas violence à l'étranger, à l'orphelin et à la veuve, si vous ne répandez pas en ce lieu le sang innocent, et si vous n'allez pas après les dieux étrangers, pour votre malheur, | 6 if you do not act with deceit toward the new arrival, the orphan, and the widow, and if you do not pour out innocent blood in this place, and if you do not walk after strange gods, which is to your own harm, |
| 7 Je demeurerai avec vous de siècle en siècle dans ce lieu, sur cette terre que J'ai donnée à vos pères. | 7 then I will live with you in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers from the beginning and even forever. |
| 8 Mais voici que vous vous fiez à des paroles de mensonge, qui ne vous serviront de rien: | 8 Behold, you trust in false words, which will not benefit you, |
| 9 voler, tuer, commettre l'adultère, jurer faussement, sacrifier à Baal, aller après des dieux étrangers qui vous étaient inconnus; | 9 so as to steal, to murder, to commit adultery, to swear falsely, to offer libations to Baal, and to go after strange gods, which you do not know. |
| 10 puis vous venez vous présenter devant Moi, dans cette maison où Mon nom a été invoqué, et vous dites : Nous sommes délivrés, quoique nous ayons commis toutes ces abominations. | 10 And you arrived and stood before me in this house, where my name is invoked, and you said: ‘We have been freed because we carried out all these abominations.’ |
| 11 Est-elle donc devenue une caverne de voleurs, cette maison où Mon nom a été invoqué sous vos yeux? Moi, Moi qui suis, J'ai vu, dit le Seigneur. | 11 So then, has this house, where my name has been invoked, become a den of robbers in your eyes? It is I, I am, I have seen, says the Lord. |
| 12 Allez à Mon sanctuaire, à Silo, où Mon nom a résidé depuis le commencement, et voyez comment Je l'ai traité à cause de la méchanceté de Mon peuple Israël. | 12 Go to my place in Shiloh, where my name has lived from the beginning, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. |
| 13 Et maintenant, parce que vous avez fait toutes ces choses, dit le Seigneur; parce que Je vous ai parlé dès le matin sans que vous ayez entendu, parce que Je vous ai appelés sans que vous ayez répondu, | 13 And now, because you have done all these works, says the Lord, and because I have spoken to you from your morning rising, and because I was speaking, but you were not listening, and because I have called you, but you have not responded: |
| 14 Je traiterai cette maison, où Mon nom a été invoqué et en laquelle vous mettez votre confiance, et ce lieu que J'ai donné à vous et à vos pères, comme J'ai traité Silo; | 14 I will do to this house, in which my name is invoked, and in which you have confidence, even to this place which I gave to you and to your fathers, just as I have done to Shiloh. |
| 15 et Je vous rejetterai loin de Ma face, comme J'ai rejeté tous vos frères, toute la race d'Ephraïm. | 15 And I will cast you away from my face, just as I have cast away all your brothers, the entire offspring of Ephraim. |
| 16 Toi donc, n'intercède pas pour ce peuple, n'entreprends pour eux ni supplication ni prière, et ne t'oppose point à Moi, car Je ne t'axaucerai pas. | 16 Therefore, you should not pray for this people, nor take up praise and supplication on their behalf. And you should not stand in opposition to me. For then I will not heed you. |
| 17 Ne vois-tu pas ce qu'ils font dans les villes de Juda et dans les places publiques de Jérusalem? | 17 Have you not seen what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? |
| 18 Les enfants ramassent le bois, les pères allument le feu, et les femmes pétrissent de la graisse pour faire des gâteaux à la reine du ciel, pour faire des libations à des dieux étrangers, et pour exciter Ma colère. | 18 The sons gather the wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the wives spread the grease, so as to make cakes to the queen of heaven and to offer libations to strange gods, and so as to provoke me to anger. |
| 19 Est-ce Moi qu'ils irritent? dit le Seigneur; n'est-ce pas eux-mêmes, pour la confusion de leur visage? | 19 But are they provoking me to anger, says the Lord? Are they not provoking themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?” |
| 20 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu : Voici que Ma fureur et Mon indignation s'embrasent contre ce lieu, contre les hommes, et contre les animaux, et contre les arbres des champs, et contre les fruits de la terre; et elle brûlera, et ne s'éteindra pas. | 20 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: “Behold, my fury and my indignation is kindled against this place, over men and over beasts, and over the trees of the countryside and over the fruits of the land, and it will burn and not be extinguished.” |
| 21 Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : Ajoutez vos holocaustes à vos victimes, et mangez-en les chairs; | 21 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your holocausts to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. |
| 22 car Je n'ai point parlé à vos pères, et Je ne leur ai donné aucun ordre, le jour où Je les ai tirés du pays d'Egypte, au sujet des holocaustes et des victimes; | 22 For concerning the matter of holocausts and sacrifices, I did not speak with your fathers, and I did not instruct them, in the day when I led them away from the land of Egypt. |
| 23 mais voici l'ordre que Je leur ai donné : Ecoutez Ma voix, et Je serai votre Dieu, et vous serez Mon peuple; et marchez dans toutes les voies que Je vous ai prescrites, afin que vous soyez heureux. | 23 But on this matter I did instruct them, saying: Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. And walk in the entire way that I have commanded you, so that it may be well with you. |
| 24 Et ils n'ont pas écouté, et ils n'ont pas prêté l'oreille; mais ils ont suivi leurs désirs et la dépravation de leur mauvais coeur; ils ont été en arrière et non en avant, | 24 But they did not listen, nor did they incline their ear. Instead, they walked by their own will and in the depravity of their own wicked heart. And so, they went backward, and not forward, |
| 25 depuis le jour où leurs pères sont sortis du pays d'Egypte jusqu'à ce jour. Et Je vous ai envoyé tous Mes serviteurs, les prophètes, jour par jour, les envoyant de grand matin; | 25 from the day when their fathers went forth from the land of Egypt, even to this day. And I have sent all my servants, the prophets, to you, throughout the day, rising at first light and sending them. |
| 26 et ils ne M'ont pas écouté, et ils n'ont pas prêté l'oreille; mais ils ont raidi leur cou, et ils ont fait le mal plus que leurs pères. | 26 But they have not listened to me, nor have they inclined their ear. Instead, they have stiffened their neck, and they have behaved worse than their fathers did. |
| 27 Tu leur diras toutes ces choses, et ils ne t'écouteront pas; tu les appelleras, et ils ne te répondront pas. | 27 And so, you will speak to them all these words, but they will not listen to you. And you will call to them, but they will not respond to you. |
| 28 Alors tu leur diras : C'est ici le peuple qui n'a pas écouté la voix du Seigneur son Dieu, et qui n'a pas reçu Ses instructions. La foi a disparu, et elle est bannie de leur bouche. | 28 And you will say to them: This is the nation that has not listened to the voice of the Lord their God, nor accepted discipline. Faith has perished and been taken away from their mouth. |
| 29 Coupe tes cheveux et jette-les; pousse tes cris vers le ciel, car le Seigneur a rejeté et abandonné la génération qui a excité Sa fureur; | 29 Cut off your hair, and cast it away. And take up a lamentation on high. For the Lord has cast aside and abandoned this generation of his fury. |
| 30 car les enfants de Juda ont fait ce qui est mal à Mes yeux, dit le Seigneur. Ils ont placé leurs abominations dans la maison où Mon nom a été invoqué, afin de la souiller; | 30 For the sons of Judah have done evil in my eyes, says the Lord. They have stationed their abominations in the house where my name is invoked, so that they may defile it. |
| 31 et il ont bâti des hauts lieux à Topheth, dans la vallée du fils d'Ennom, pour y consumer dans le feu leurs fils et leurs filles, ce que Je n'ai point ordonné, et qui ne M'est pas venu à la pensée. | 31 And they have built the exalted places of Topheth, which is in the Valley of the son of Hinnom, so that they may burn their sons and their daughters with fire, something I neither instructed, nor thought in my heart. |
| 32 C'est pourquoi, voici que les jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, où l'on ne dira plus Topheth, ni vallée du fils d'Ennom, mais vallée du carnage, et on ensevelira les morts à Topheth, parce qu'il n'y aura plus de place ailleurs. | 32 For this reason, behold, the days will arrive, says the Lord, when it will no longer be called Topheth, nor the Valley of the son of Hinnom, but instead the Valley of Slaughter. Yet they will bury in Topheth, because there will be no other place. |
| 33 Et les cadavres de ce peuple seront la pâture des oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes de la terre, et il n'y aura personne pour les chasser. | 33 And the corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the air and for the wild beasts of the land, and there will be no one to drive them away. |
| 34 Et Je ferai cesser dans les villes de Juda et dans les places publiques de Jérusalem, les cris de joie et les cris d'allégresse, la voix de l'époux et la voix de l'épouse; car le pays sera désolé. | 34 And from the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, I will cause the cessation of the voice of gladness and the voice of rejoicing, the voice of the groom and the voice of the bride. For the land will be in utter desolation.” |
