| 1 Le Seigneur parla à Moïse après la mort des deux fils d'Aaron, lorsqu'ils furent tués pour avoir offert à Dieu un feu étranger; | 1 Yahweh spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron who died when offering unauthorisedfire. |
| 2 Et Il lui donna cet ordre, et Il lui dit: Dites à Aaron votre frère qu'il n'entre pas en tout temps dans le sanctuaire qui est au dedans du voile, devant le propitiatoire qui couvre l'arche, de peur qu'il ne meure; car J'apparaîtrai sur l'oracle dans la nuée. | 2 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said: 'Tel Aaron your brother that he may not enter the sanctuary insidethe curtain in front of the mercy-seat on the ark whenever he chooses, in case he incurs death, for I appear in acloud on the mercy-seat. |
| 3 l. Car c'est le sabbat et le grand jour du repos, et vous y affligerez vos âmes en vertu d'une loi perpétuelle. | 3 'This is how he must enter the sanctuary: with a young bul for a sacrifice for sin and a ram for a burntoffering. |
| 4 Il se revêtira de la tunique de lin; il couvrira sa nudité avec des caleçons de lin; il se ceindra d'une ceinture de lin; il mettra sur sa tête une tiare de lin: car ces vêtements sont saints; et il les prendra tous après s'être lavé. | 4 He will put on a tunic of consecrated linen, wear linen drawers on his body, a linen waistband round hiswaist, and a linen turban on his head. These are the sacred vestments he wil put on after washing himself. |
| 5 Il recevra de toute la multitude des enfants d'Israël deux boucs pour le péché, et un bélier pour être offert en holocauste. | 5 'From the community of Israelites he wil receive two he-goats for a sacrifice for sin and a ram for aburnt offering. |
| 6 Et lorsqu'il aura offert le veau, et qu'il aura prié pour soi et pour sa maison, | 6 After offering the bul as a sacrifice for his own sin and performing the rite of expiation for himself andhis family, |
| 7 Il présentera devant le Seigneur les deux boucs à l'entrée du tabernacle du témoignage; | 7 he wil take the two he-goats and place them before Yahweh at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. |
| 8 Et jetant le sort sur les deux boucs, l'un pour le Seigneur et l'autre pour le bouc émissaire, | 8 Aaron wil then draw lots over the two goats, one lot to be for Yahweh and the other lot for Azazel. |
| 9 Il offrira pour le péché le bouc sur lequel sera tombé le sort qui le destinait au Seigneur; | 9 Aaron wil then take the goat on which the lot "For Yahweh" has fal en, and offer it as a sacrifice for sin. |
| 10 Et il présentera vivant devant le Seigneur le bouc sur qui sera tombé le sort qui le destinait à être l'émissaire, afin qu'il fasse les prières sur lui, et qu'il l'envoie dans le désert. | 10 But the goat on which the lot "For Azazel" has fal en, will be placed alive before Yahweh, for the riteof expiation to be performed with it, and for it then to be sent to Azazel in the desert. |
| 11 Ayant fait ces choses selon l'ordre qui lui est prescrit, il offrira le veau, et, priant pour soi et pour sa maison, il l'immolera. | 11 'Having offered the bul as a sacrifice for his own sin and performed the rite of expiation for himselfand for his family, and slaughtered the bul as a sacrifice for sin, |
| 12 Puis il prendra l'encensoir qu'il aura rempli de charbons de l'autel, et prenant avec la main les parfums qui auront été composés pour servir d'encens, il entrera au dedans du voile dans le Saint des saints; | 12 Aaron wil then fill a censer with live coals from the altar before Yahweh, take two handfuls of finelyground aromatic incense and bring this inside the curtain. |
| 13 Afin que les parfums aromatiques étant mis sur le feu, la fumêe et la vapeur qui en sortiront couvrent l'oracle qui est au-dessus du témoignage, et qu'il ne meure point. | 13 He wil then put the incense on the fire before Yahweh, so that the cloud of incense hides the mercy-seat which is on the Testimony and he does not incur death. |
| 14 Il prendra aussi du sang du veau, et y ayant trempé son doigt, il en fera sept fois l'aspersion vers le propitiatoire du côté de l'orient. | 14 He wil then take some of the bul 's blood and sprinkle it with his finger on the eastern side of themercy-seat. He will sprinkle some of the blood seven times with his finger in front of the mercy-seat. |
| 15 Et après avoir immolé le bouc pour le péché du peuple, il en portera le sang au dedans du voile, selon qu'il lui a été ordonné touchant le sang du veau, afin qu'il en fasse l'aspersion devant l'oracle, | 15 'He wil then slaughter the goat for the sacrifice for the sin of the people, and take its blood inside thecurtain, and with this blood do as he did with the blood of the bull, sprinkling it on the mercy-seat and in front ofit. |
| 16 Et qu'il purifie le sanctuaire des impuretés des enfants d'Israël, des violations qu'ils ont commises contre la loi, et de tous leurs péchés. Il fera la même chose au tabernacle du témoignage, qui a été dressé parmi eux au milieu des impuretés qui se commettent dans leurs tentes. | 16 This is how he must perform the rite of expiation for the sanctuary for the uncleanness of theIsraelites, for their acts of rebel ion and al their sins. 'And this is what he must do for the Tent of Meeting whichremains with them, surrounded by their uncleanness. |
| 17 Que nul homme ne soit dans le tabernacle, quand le pontife entrera dans le Saint des saints, pour prier pour lui-même, pour sa maison et pour toute l'assemblée d'Israël, jusqu'à ce qu'il en soit sorti. | 17 No one must be inside the Tent of Meeting, from the moment he enters to make expiation in thesanctuary until the time he comes out. 'When he has made expiation for himself, for his family, and for the wholecommunity of Israel, |
| 18 Et lorsqu'il en sera sorti pour venir à l'autel qui est devant le Seigneur, qu'il prie pour lui-même, et ayant pris du sang du veau et du bouc, qu'il en répande sur les cornes de l'autel tout autour. | 18 he must come outside, go to the altar before Yahweh and perform the rite of expiation for it. He willtake some of the bul 's blood and some of the goat's blood and put it on the horns at the corners of the altar alaround it, |
| 19 Ayant aussi trempé son doigt dans le sang, qu'il en fasse sept fois l'aspersion, et qu'il expie l'autel et le sanctifie, le purifiant des impuretés des enfants d'Israël. | 19 and sprinkle some of the blood on it seven times with his finger, thus purifying it and setting it apartfrom the uncleanness of the Israelites. |
| 20 Après qu'il aura purifié le sanctuaire, le tabernacle et l'autel, il offrira le bouc vivant; | 20 'Once expiation for the sanctuary, the Tent of Meeting and the altar is complete, he will bring the goatwhich is stil alive. |
| 21 Et lui ayant mis les deux mains sur la tête, il confessera toutes les iniquités des enfants d'Israël, toutes leurs offenses et tous leurs péchés: il en chargera avec imprécation la tête de ce bouc, et l'enverra au désert par un homme destiné à cela. | 21 Aaron wil then lay both his hands on its head and over it confess al the guilt of the Israelites, al theiracts of rebel ion and all their sins. Having thus laid them on the goat's head, he will send it out into the desertunder the charge of a man waiting ready, |
| 22 Après que le bouc aura porté toutes leurs iniquités dans un lieu solitaire, et qu'on l'aura laissé aller dans le désert, | 22 and the goat wil bear all their guilt away into some desolate place. 'When he has sent the goat intothe desert, |
| 23 Aaron retournera au tabernacle du témoignage, et ayant quitté les vêtements dont il était auparavant revêtu lorsqu'il entrait dans le sanctuaire, et les ayant laissés là, | 23 Aaron wil go back into the Tent of Meeting and take off the linen vestments which he wore to enterthe sanctuary and leave them there. |
| 24 Il lavera son corps dans le lieu saint, et il se revêtira de ses habits ordinaires. Il sortira ensuite, et après avoir offert son holocauste et celui du peuple, il priera tant pour lui-même que pour le peuple; | 24 He wil then wash his body inside the holy place, put on his vestments and come outside to offer hisown and the people's burnt offering. He wil perform the rite of expiation for himself and for the people, |
| 25 Et il fera brûler sur l'autel la graisse qui a été offerte pour les péchés. | 25 and burn the fat of the sacrifice for sin on the altar. |
| 26 Quant à celui qui sera allé conduire le bouc émissaire, il lavera dans l'eau ses vêtements et son corps, et après cela il rentrera dans le camp. | 26 'The man who led the goat away to Azazel wil wash his clothes and body before entering the camp. |
| 27 On emportera hors du camp le veau et le bouc qui avaient été immolés pour le péché et dont le sang avait été porté dans le sanctuaire pour en faire la cérémonie de l'expiation, et on en brûlera dans le feu la peau, la chair et la fiente. | 27 The bul and the goat offered as a sacrifice for sin, the blood of which was taken into the sanctuary forthe rite of expiation, must be taken outside the camp, where their skin, meat and offal are to be burnt. |
| 28 Quiconque les aura brûlées lavera dans l'eau ses vêtements et son corps, et après cela il rentrera dans le camp. | 28 The man who burns them wil wash his clothes and body before entering the camp. |
| 29 Cette ordonnance sera gardée éternellement parmi vous. Au dixième jour du septième mois vous affligerez vos âmes; vous ne ferez aucun travail, soit ceux qui sont nés en votre pays, soit ceux qui sont venus du dehors et qui sont étrangers parmi vous. | 29 'This wil be a perpetual law for you. 'On the tenth day of the seventh month you will fast and refrainfrom work, both citizen and resident alien; |
| 30 C'est en ce jour que se fera votre expiation et la purification de tous vos péchés; vous serez purifiés devant le Seigneur. | 30 for this is the day on which the rite of expiation will be performed for you to purify you, to purify youbefore Yahweh from al your sins. |
| 31 It wil be a sabbatical rest for you and you wil fast. This is a perpetual law. |
| 32 Cette expiation se fera par le grand prêtre, qui aura reçu l'onction sainte, dont les mains auront été consacrées pour faire les fonctions du sacerdoce en la place de son père; et s'étant revêtu de la robe de lin et des vêtements saints, | 32 'The rite of expiation wil be performed by the priest who has been anointed and instal ed to officiatein succession to his father. He wil put on the linen vestments, the sacred vestments, |
| 33 Il expiera le sanctuaire, le tabernacle du témoignage et l'autel, les prêtres aussi, et tout le peuple. | 33 and perform the rite of expiation for the holy sanctuary, the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and wilthen perform the rite of expiation for the priests and al the people of the community. |
| 34 Et cette ordonnance sera gardée éternellement parmi vous, de prier une fois l'année pour tous les enfants d'Israël et pour tous leurs péchés. Moïse fit donc tout ceci, selon que le Seigneur le lui avait ordonné. | 34 This wil be a perpetual law for you; once a year the rite of expiation wil be made for the Israelites foral their sins.' And as Yahweh ordered Moses, so it was done. |
