| 2 Par le Dieu vivant qui refuse de me faire justice, et par le Tout-Puissant qui a rempli mon âme d'amertume, | 2 As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment, and the Almighty, who hath brought my soul to bitterness, |
| 3 tant que j'aurai ma respiration et que le souffle de Dieu sera dans mes narines, | 3 As long as breath remaineth in me, and the spirit of God in my nostrils, |
| 4 mes lèvres ne prononceront rien d'unjuste, et ma langue ne dira rien de faux. | 4 My lips shall not speak iniquity, neither shall my tongue contrive lying. |
| 5 Loin de moi la pensée de vous croire équitables; tant que je vivrai, je ne me désisterai pas de mon innocence. | 5 God forbid that I should judge you to be just: till I die I will not depart from my innocence. |
| 6 Je n'abandonnerai pas la justification que j'ai commencé de produire; car mon coeur ne me reproche rien dans toute ma vie. | 6 My justification, which I have begun to hold, I will not forsake: for my heart doth not reprehend me in all my life. |
| 7 Que mon ennemi soit regardé comme un impie; et celui qui me combat, comme un homme injuste. | 7 Let my enemy be as the ungodly, and my adversary as the wicked one. |
| 8 Car quelle est l'espérance de l'hypocrite, s'il vole par avarice, et que Dieu ne délivre point son âme? | 8 For what is the hope of the hypocrite if through covetousness he take by violence, and God deliver not his soul? |
| 9 Dieu entendra-t-Il ses cris, lorsque l'affliction viendra sur lui? | 9 Will God hear his cry, when distress shall come upon him? |
| 10 Ou pourra-t-il faire du Tout-Puissant ses délces, et invoquer Dieu en tout temps? | 10 Or can he delight himself in the Almighty, and call upon God at all times? |
| 11 Je vous enseignerai avec le secours de Dieu; je ne vous cacherai point les desseins du Tout-Puissant. | 11 I will teach you by the hand of God, what the Almighty hath, and I will not conceal it. |
| 12 Mais vous le savez déjà tous; pourquoi donc vous répandre inutilement en de vains discours? | 12 Behold you all know it, and why do you speak vain things without cause? |
| 13 Voici le sort que Dieu réserve à l'homme impie, et l'héritage que les violents recevront du Tout-Puissant. | 13 This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the inheritance of the violent, which they shall receive of the Almighty. |
| 14 S'il a des fils en grand nombre, ils passeront par le glaive, et ses petits-enfants ne seront point rassasiés de pain. | 14 If his sons be multiplied, they shall be for the sword, and his grandsons shall not be filled with bread. |
| 15 Ceux qui resteront de sa race seront ensevelis dans leur ruine, et ses veuves ne le pleureront point. | 15 They that shall remain of him, shall be buried in death, and his widows shall not weep. |
| 16 S'il amoncelle l'argent comme de la terre, s'il amasse des vêtements comme de la boue, | 16 If he shall heap together silver as earth, and prepare raiment as clay, |
| 17 il est vrai qu'il les aura amassés; mais le juste s'en revêtira, et l'innocent partagera son argent. | 17 He shall prepare indeed, but the just man shall be clothed with it: and the innocent shall divide the silver. |
| 18 Ce qu'il a bâti sera comme la maison de la teigne, et comme la cabane d'un gardien. | 18 He hath built his house as a moth, and as a keeper he hath made a booth. |
| 19 Lorsque le riche s'endormira, il n'emportera rien avec lui; il ouvrira les yeux, et il ne trouvera rien. | 19 The rich man when he shall sleep shall take away nothing with him: he shall open his eyes and find nothing. |
| 20 L'indigence le surprendra comme une inondation; la tempête l'emportera pendant la nuit. | 20 Poverty like water shall take hold on him, a tempest shall oppress him in the night. |
| 21 Un vent brûlant le saisira et l'emportera, et l'enlèvera de sa place comme un tourbillon. | 21 A burning wind shall take him up, and carry him away, and as a whirlwind shall snatch him from his place. |
| 22 Dieu enverra sur lui plaie sur plaie, et ne l'épargnera point; et il s'efforcera d'échapper à Sa main. | 22 And he shall cast upon him, and shall not spare: out of his hand he would willingly flee. |
| 23 On battra des mains sur lui, et on le sifflera en voyant la place qu'il occupait. | 23 He shall clasp his hands upon him, and shall hiss at him, beholding his place. |
