| 1 Alors Tobie l'ancien, ouvrant la bouche, bénit le Seigneur, et il dit: Vous êtes grand, Seigneur, dans l'éternité; et Votre règne s'étend à tous les siècles. | 1 And Tobias the elder opening his mouth, blessed the Lord, and said: Thou art great, O Lord, for ever, and thy kingdom is unto all ages: |
| 2 Car Vous châtiez et Vous sauvez, Vous conduisez jusqu'au tombeau, et Vous en ramenez, et nul ne peut se soustraire à Votre main. | 2 For thou scourgest, and thou savest: thou leadest down to hell, and bringest up again: and there is none that can escape thy hand. |
| 3 Rendez grâces au Seugneur, fils d'Israël, et louez-le devant les nations; | 3 Give glory to the Lord, ye children of Israel, and praise him in the sight of the Gentiles: |
| 4 car Il vous a dispersés parmi les peuples qui L'ignorent, afin que vous publiiez Ses merveilles, et que vous leur appreniez qu'il n'y a pas d'autre Dieu tout-puissant, si ce n'est Lui. | 4 Because he hath therefore scattered you among the Gentiles, who know not him, that you may declare his wonderful works, and make them know that there is no other almighty God besides him. |
| 5 C'est Lui qui nous a châtiés à cause de nos iniquités; et c'est Lui qui nous sauvera à cause de Sa miséricorde. | 5 He hath chastised us for our iniquities: and he will save us for his own mercy. |
| 6 Considérez donc la manière dont Il nous a traités, et bénissez-Le avec crainte et tremblement, et exaltez par Vos oeuvres le Roi des siècles. | 6 See then what he hath done with us, and with fear and trembling give ye glory to him: and extol the eternal King of worlds in your works. |
| 7 Pour moi je Le bénirai sur cette terre où je suis captif, parce qu'Il a fait éclater Sa majesté sur une nation criminelle. | 7 As for me, I will praise him in the land of my captivity: because he hath shewn his majesty toward a sinful nation. |
| 8 Convertissez-vous donc, pécheurs, et pratiquez la justice devant Dieu, et croyez qu'Il vous fera miséricorde. | 8 Be converted therefore, ye sinners, and do justice before God, believing that he will shew his mercy to you. |
| 9 Mais moi et mon âme, nous nous réjouirons en Lui. | 9 And I and my soul will rejoice in him. |
| 10 Bénissez le Seigneur, vous tous Ses élus; célébrez des jours de joie, et rendez-Lui des actions de grâces. | 10 Bless ye the Lord, all his elect, keep days of joy, and give glory to him. |
| 11 Jérusalem, cité de Dieu, le Seigneur t'a châtiée à cause des oeuvres de tes mains. | 11 Jerusalem, city of God, the Lord hath chastised thee for the works of thy hands. |
| 12 Rends grâces au Seigneur pour les biens qu'Il t'a faits, et bénis le Dieu des siècles, afin qu'Il rétablisse en toi Son tabernacle, et qu'Il rappelle à toi tous les captifs, et que tu te réjouisses dans tous les siècles des siècles. | 12 Give glory to the Lord for thy good things, and bless the God eternal, that he may rebuild his tabernacle in thee, and may call back all the captives to thee, and thou mayst rejoice for ever and ever. |
| 13 Tu brilleras d'une lumière éclatante, et toutes les extrèmités de la terre t'adoreront. | 13 Thou shalt shine with a glorious light: and all the ends of the earth shall worship thee. |
| 14 Les nations viendront à toi des pays lointains, et, t'apportant des présents, elles adoreront en toi le Seigneur, et considéreront ta terre comme un sanctuaire. | 14 Nations from afar shall come to thee: and shall bring gifts, and shall adore the Lord in thee, and shall esteem thy land as holy. |
| 15 Car elles invoqueront le grand Nom au milieu de toi. | 15 For they shall call upon the great name in thee. |
| 16 Ceux qui te mépriseront seront maudits; ceux qui te blasphémeront seront condamnés, et ceux qui t'édifieront seront bénis. | 16 They shall be cursed that shall despise thee: and they shall be condemned that shall blaspheme thee: and blessed shall they be that shall build thee up. |
| 17 Mais toi, tu te réjouiras dans tes enfants, parce qu'ils seront tous bénis, et réunis près du Seigneur. | 17 But thou shalt rejoice in thy children, because they shall all be blessed, and shall be gathered together to the Lord. |
| 18 Heureux tous ceux qui t'aiment, et qui se réjouissent de ta paix. | 18 Blessed are all they that love thee, and that rejoice in thy peace. |
| 19 Mon âme, bénis le Seigneur, parce qu'Il a délivré Jérusalem, Sa cité, de toutes ses tribulations, Lui le Seigneur notre Dieu. | 19 My soul, bless thou the Lord, because the Lord our God hath delivered Jerusalem his city from all her troubles. |
| 20 Je serai heureux s'il reste quelqu'un de ma race pour voir la splendeur de Jérusalem. | 20 Happy shall I be if there shall remain of my seed, to see the glory of Jerusalem. |
| 21 Les portes de Jérusalem seront bâties de saphirs et d'émeraudes, et toute l'enceinte de ses murailles de pierres précieuses. | 21 The gates of Jerusalem shall be built of sapphire, and of emerald, and all the walls thereof round about of precious stones. |
| 22 Toutes ses places publiques seront pavées de pierres blanches et pures; et l'on chantera dans ses rues Alléluia. | 22 All its streets shall be paved with white and clean stones: and Alleluia shall be sung in its streets. |
| 23 Béni soit le Seigneur qui l'a exaltée, et qu'Il règne sur elle dans les siècles des siècles. Amen. | 23 Blessed be the Lord, who hath exalted it, and may he reign over it for ever and ever, Amen. |
