| 1 Salomon apporta donc dans le temple tout ce que David son père avait voué, et mit l'or, l'argent et tous les ustensiles dans les trésors de la maison de Dieu. | 1 Then Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had vowed, the silver, and the gold, and all the vessels he put among the treasures of the house of God. |
| 2 Après cela il assembla à Jérusalem tous les anciens d'Israël, tous les princes des tribus et les chefs des familles des fils d'Israël, pour transporter l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur de la ville de David, c'est-à-dire de Sion. | 2 And after this he gathered together the ancients of Israel, and all the princes of the tribes, and the heads of the families, of the children of Israel to Jerusalem, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Sion. |
| 3 Ainsi tous les hommes d'Israël vinrent auprès du roi le jour solennel du septième mois. | 3 And all the men of Israel came to the king in the solemn day of the seventh month. |
| 4 Et lorsque tous les anciens d'Israël furent arrivés, les lévites prirent l'arche, | 4 And when all the ancients of Israel were come, the Levites took up the ark, |
| 5 et ils la portèrent dans le temple, avec tout le mobilier du tabernacle. Or les prêtres et les lévites portèrent tous les ustensiles du sanctuaire qui étaient dans le tabernacle. | 5 And brought it in, together with all the furniture of the tabernacle. And the priests with the Levites carried the vessels of the sanctuary, which were in the tabernacle. |
| 6 Le roi Salomon et toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et tous ceux qui s'étaient réunis devant l'arche immolaient des béliers et des boeufs sans nombre, tant était grande la multitude des victimes. | 6 And king Solomon and all the assembly of Israel, and all that were gathered together before the ark, sacrificed rams, and oxen without number: so great was the multitude of the victims. |
| 7 Et les prêtres portèrent l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur à sa place, c'est-à-dire près de l'oracle du temple, dans le Saint des saints, sous les ailes des chérubins; | 7 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord into its place, that is, to the oracle of the temple, into the holy of holies under the wings of the cherubims: |
| 8 de sorte que les chérubins étendaient leurs ailes sur le lieu où l'arche avait été placée, et couvraient l'arche, ainsi que ses bâtons. | 8 So that the cherubims spread their wings over the place, in which the ark was set, and covered the ark itself and its staves. |
| 9 Et comme ces bâtons avec lesquels on portait l'arche étaient un peu longs, on en voyait l'extrémité de devant le sanctuaire; mais, si l'on était un peu en dehors, on ne pouvait plus les voir. Et l'arche a toujours été là jusqu'à présent. | 9 Now the ends of the staves wherewith the ark was carried, because they were some thing longer, were seen before the oracle: but if a man were a little outward, he could not see them. So the ark has been there unto this day. |
| 10 Il n'y avait dans l'arche que les deux tables que Moïse y plaça près de l'Horeb, lorsque le Seigneur donna Sa loi aux fils d'Israël, à leur sortie d'Egypte. | 10 And there was nothing else in the ark but the two tables which Moses put there at Horeb when the Lord gave the law to the children of Israel, at their coming out of Egypt. |
| 11 Lors donc que les prêtres furent sortis du sanctuaire (car tous les prêtres que l'on put trouver là furent sanctifiés, et jusqu'alors les fonctions et l'ordre du ministère n'avaient pas encore été distribués entre eux), | 11 Now when the priests were come out of the sanctuary, (for all the priests that could be found there, mere sanctified: and as yet at that time the courses and orders of the ministries were not divided among them,) |
| 12 tant les lévites que les chantres, c'est-à-dire ceux qui étaient sous Asaph, sous Héman et sous Idithun, avec leurs fils et leurs frères, revêtus de lin, faisaient retentir leurs cymbales, leurs psaltérions et leurs guitares, et se tenaient à l'orient de l'autel, avec cent vingt prêtres qui sonnaient de leurs trompettes. | 12 Both the Levites and the singing men, that is, both they that were under Asaph, and they that were under Heman, and they that were under Idithun, with their sons, and their brethren, clothed with fine linen, sounded with cymbals, and psalteries, and harps, standing on the east side of the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests, sounding with trumpets. |
| 13 Tous chantant donc en même temps, avec les trompettes, les voix, les cymbales, les orgues et des instruments de divers genres, et faisant retentir leur voix bien haut, ce bruit s'entendait de très loin. Et quand ils eurent commencé à louer le Seigneur et à entonner ce cantique : Rendez gloire au Seigneur, parce qu'Il est bon et parce que Sa miséricorde est éternelle, la maison de Dieu fut remplie d'une nuée; | 13 So when they all sounded together, both with trumpets, and voice, and cymbals, and organs, and with divers kind of musical instruments, and lifted up their voice on high : the sound was heard afar off, so that when they began to praise the Lord, and to say: Give glory to the Lord for he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever: the house of God was filled with a cloud. |
| 14 en sorte que les prêtres ne pouvaient y demeurer, ni faire les fonctions de leur ministère à cause de la nuée; car la gloire du Seigneur avait rempli la maison de Dieu. | 14 Nor could the priests stand and minister by reason of the cloud. For the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God. |
