| 1 Mais, l'an trente-six de son règne, Baasa, roi d'Israël, monta contre Juda, et entoura Rama d'un rempart, afin que nul du royaume d'Asa ne pût sûrement entrer ou sortir. | 1 In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. |
| 2 Alors Asa prit l'or et l'argent qui étaient dans les trésors de la maison du Seigneur et dans les trésors du roi, et les envoya à Bénadad, roi de Syrie, qui demeurait à Damas, et il lui fit dire: | 2 Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying, |
| 3 Il y a une alliance entre vous et moi; mon père et le vôtre ont aussi toujours été en bonne harmonie. C'est pourquoi je vous ai envoyé de l'argent et de l'or, afin que vous rompiez l'alliance que avez faite avec Baasa, roi d'Israël, et que vous l'obligiez de se retirer de mes Etats. | 3 There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me. |
| 4 Dès que Bénadad eut reçu cette nouvelle, il envoya les généraux de ses armées contre les villes d'Israël, et ils prirent Ahion, Dan, Abelmaïm, et toutes les villes murées de Nephthali. | 4 And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store cities of Naphtali. |
| 5 Lorsque Baasa l'eut appris, il cessa de bâtir Rama et interrompit ses travaux. | 5 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease. |
| 6 Alors le roi Asa prit tout Juda, et fit enlever de Rama les pierres et le bois que Baasa avait préparés pour la bâtir, et il les employa à construire Gabaa et Maspha. | 6 Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah. |
| 7 En ce temps-là le prophète Hanani vint trouver le roi Asa, et lui dit : Parce que vous avez mis votre confiance dans le roi de Syrie, et non dans le Seigneur votre Dieu, pour ce motif l'armée du roi de Syrie s'est échappée de vos mains. | 7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand. |
| 8 Les Ethiopiens et les Libyens n'avaient-ils point une armée plus nombreuses en chars, en cavalerie, et en une multitude prodigieuse? Et parce que vous avez cru au Seigneur, Dieu les a livrés entre vos mains. | 8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand. |
| 9 Car les yeux du Seigneur contemplent toute la terre, et ils inspirent de la force à ceux qui croient en Lui d'un coeur parfait. Vous avez donc agi follement, et pour cela il va s'allumer des guerres contre vous. | 9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. |
| 10 Asa, irrité contre le prophète, ordonna qu'on le mît en prison; car la remontrance de ce prophète l'avait indigné. Et en ce temps même il en fit mourir plusieurs d'entre le peuple. | 10 Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time. |
| 11 Quant aux actions d'Asa, depuis les premières jusqu'aux dernières, elles sont écrites dans le livre des rois de Juda et d'Israël. | 11 And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. |
| 12 Asa tomba aussi malade la trente-neuvième année de son règne, d'une très violente douleur aux pieds; et cependant il n'eut point recours au Seigneur dans son mal, mais il mit plutôt sa confiance dans la science des médecins. | 12 And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians. |
| 13 Et il s'endormit avec ses pères, et mourut la quarante et unième année de son règne. | 13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign. |
| 14 On l'ensevelit dans le sépulcre qu'il s'était creusé dans la ville de David, et on le mit sur son lit tout rempli d'aromates et de parfums excellents, auxquels les parfumeurs avaient mis tout leur art; et ils les brûlèrent sur lui avec beaucoup de faste et de vanité. | 14 And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' art: and they made a very great burning for him. |
