| 2 Et il fit le mal devant le Seigneur, mais non comme les rois d'Israël qui avaient été avant lui. | 2 And he did evil before the Lord, but not like the kings of Israel who had been before him. |
| 3 Salmanasar, roi des Assyriens, marcha contre lui, et Osée fut asservi à Salmanasar, roi des Assyriens, et il lui payait le tribut. | 3 Shalmaneser, the king of the Assyrians, ascended against him. And Hoshea became a servant to him, and he paid him tribute. |
| 4 Mais le roi des Assyriens découvrit qu'Osée pensait à se révolter, et qu'il avait envoyé des ambassadeurs à Sua, roi d'Egypte, pour n'être plus obligé de payer le tribut aux Assyriens, comme il faisait tous les ans; il l'assiégea donc, et l'ayant pris, il l'envoya enchaîné en prison. | 4 And when the king of the Assyrians discovered that Hoshea, striving to rebel, had sent messengers to Sais, to the king of Egypt, so as not to present the tribute to the king of the Assyrians, as he had been accustomed to do each year, he besieged him. And having been bound, he cast him into prison. |
| 5 Salmanasar parcourut ensuite tout le pays; et étant venu à Samarie, il la tint assiégée pendant trois ans. | 5 And he wandered through the entire land. And ascending to Samaria, he besieged it for three years. |
| 6 La neuvième année d'Osée, le roi des Assyriens prit Samarie, et transféra les Israélites au pays des Assyriens, et les fit demeurer dans Hala, et dans Habor, près du fleuve de Gozan, et dans les villes des Mèdes. | 6 And in the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of the Assyrians captured Samaria, and he carried away Israel to Assyria. And he stationed them in Halah and in Habor, beside the river of Gozan, in the cities of the Medes. |
| 7 Car les fils d'Israël avaient péché contre le Seigneur leur Dieu, qui les avait tirés de l'Egypte, et de la main du Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et ils adoraient des dieux étrangers. | 7 For it happened that, when the sons of Israel had sinned against the Lord, their God, who had led them away from the land of Egypt, from the hand of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, they worshipped strange gods. |
| 8 Ils vivaient selon les coutumes des nations que le Seigneur avait exterminées à l'entrée des fils d'Israël, et selon les coutumes des rois d'Israël, qui avaient imité ces nations. | 8 And they walked according to the rituals of the nations that the Lord had consumed in the sight of the sons of Israel, and of the kings of Israel. For they had acted similarly. |
| 9 Les fils d'Israël avaient offensé le Seigneur leur Dieu par ces actions criminelles, et s'étaient bâti des hauts lieux dans toutes leurs villes, depuis les tours des gardes jusqu'aux places fortes. | 9 And the sons of Israel offended the Lord, their God, with deeds that were not upright. And they built for themselves high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city. |
| 10 Ils avaient aussi dressé des statues et planté des bois sacrés sur toutes les collines élevées, et sous tous les arbres touffus. | 10 And they made for themselves statues and sacred groves, on every high hill and under every leafy tree. |
| 11 Et ils brûlaient de l'encens sur les autels, comme les nations que le Seigneur avait exterminées à leur entrée. Ils commettaient des actions très criminelles par lesquelles ils irritaient le Seigneur. | 11 And they were burning incense there, upon altars, in the manner of the nations that the Lord had removed from their face. And they did wicked deeds, provoking the Lord. |
| 12 Ils adoraient des abominations, contre la défense expresse que le Seigneur leur en avait faite. | 12 And they worshipped impurities, concerning which the Lord instructed them that they should not do this word. |
| 13 Le Seigneur avait fait souvent des protestations dans Israël et dans Juda par tous les prophètes et les voyants, et Il leur avait dit : Quittez vos voies corrompues, et revenez à Moi; gardez Mes préceptes et Mes cérémonies, selon toutes les lois que J'ai prescrites à vos pères, et selon que Je vous l'ai déclaré par les prophètes, Mes serviteurs, que Je vous ai envoyés. | 13 And the Lord testified to them, in Israel and in Judah, through the hand of all the prophets and seers, saying: “Return from your wicked ways, and keep my precepts and ceremonies, in accord with the entire law, which I instructed to your fathers, and just as I sent to you by the hand of my servants, the prophets.” |
| 14 Et ils n'avaient pas écouté; mais leur tête était devenu inflexible comme celle de leurs pères, qui n'avaient point voulu obéir au Seigneur leur Dieu. | 14 But they did not listen. Instead, they hardened their necks to be like the neck of their fathers, who were not willing to obey the Lord, their God. |
| 15 Ils avaient rejeté Ses lois, et l'alliance qu'Il avait faite avec leurs pères, aussi bien que toutes les remontrances qu'Il leur avait fait faire. Ils avaient couru après les vanités, et ils avaient agi vainement, en suivant les nations dont ils étaient environnés, quoique le Seigneur leur eût défendu si expressément de faire ce qu'elles faisaient. | 15 And they cast aside his ordinances, and the covenant that he formed with their fathers, and the testimonies which he testified to them. And they pursued vanities and acted vainly. And they followed the nations that were all around them, concerning the things which the Lord had commanded them not to do, and which they did. |
| 16 Ils avaient abandonné toutes les ordonnances du Seigneur leur Dieu; ils s'étaient fait deux veaux de fonte, ils avaient planté des bois sacrés, adoré tous les astres du ciel, et ils avaient servi Baal. | 16 And they abandoned all the precepts of the Lord, their God. And they made for themselves two molten calves and sacred groves. And they adored the entire celestial army. And they served Baal. |
| 17 Ils sacrifiaient leurs fils et leurs filles, et les faisaient passer par le feu. Ils s'étaient attachés aux divinations et aux augures, et ils s'étaient livrés au mal pour le commettre devant le Seigneur, de manière à L'irriter. | 17 And they consecrated their sons and their daughters through fire. And they devoted themselves to divinations and soothsaying. And they delivered themselves into the doing of evil before the Lord, so that they provoked him. |
| 18 Le Seigneur conçut donc une grande indignation contre Israël, et les rejeta de devant Sa face, et il ne demeura plus que la seule tribu de Juda. | 18 And the Lord became vehemently angry with Israel, and he took them away from his sight. And there remained no one, except the tribe of Judah alone. |
| 19 Et Juda lui-même ne garda point les commandements du Seigneur son Dieu, mais marcha dans les égarements d'Israël. | 19 But even Judah did not keep the commandments of the Lord, their God. Instead, they walked in the errors of Israel, which they had wrought. |
| 20 Alors le Seigneur abandonna toute la race d'Israël. Il les affligea, et les livra aux mains des pillards, jusqu'à ce qu'Il les rejetât de devant Sa face. | 20 And the Lord cast aside all of the offspring of Israel. And he afflicted them, and he delivered them into the hand of despoilers, until he drove them away from his face, |
| 21 Cela eut lieu dès le temps où Israël se sépara de la maison de David, et où les dix tribus se donnèrent pour roi Jéroboam, fils de Nabat; car Jéroboam sépara Israël d'avec le Seigneur, et les fit tomber dans un grand péché. | 21 even from that time when Israel was torn away from the house of David, and they appointed for themselves Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, as king. For Jeroboam separated Israel from the Lord, and he caused them to sin a great sin. |
| 22 Les fils d'Israël marchèrent ensuite dans tous les péchés de Jéroboam, et ils ne s'en retirèrent point, | 22 And the sons of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam, which he had done. And they did not withdraw from these, |
| 23 jusqu'à ce qu'enfin le Seigneur rejetât Israël de devant Sa face, comme Il l'avait prédit par tous les prophètes Ses serviteurs; et alors Israël fut transféré de son pays en Assyrie, où il est encore aujourd'hui. | 23 even when the Lord carried away Israel from his face, just as he had said by the hand of all his servants, the prophets. And Israel was carried away from their land into Assyria, even to this day. |
| 24 Or le roi des Assyriens fit venir des habitants de Babylone, de Cutha, d'Avah, d'Emath et de Sépharvaïm, et il les établit dans les villes de Samarie à la place des fils d'Israël. Ces peuples possédèrent la Samarie, et habitèrent dans ses villes. | 24 Then the king of the Assyrians brought some from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim. And he located them in the cities of Samaria, in place of the sons of Israel. And they possessed Samaria, and they lived in its cities. |
| 25 Lorsqu'ils eurent commencé à y demeurer, comme ils ne craignaient point le Seigneur, le Seigneur envoya contre eux des lions qui les tuaient. | 25 And when they had begun to live there, they did not fear the Lord. And the Lord sent lions among them, which were killing them. |
| 26 On l'annonça au roi des Assyriens, et on lui dit : Les peuples que vous avez déportés, et que vous avez fait habiter dans les villes de Samarie, ignorent la religion du Dieu de ce pays, et le Seigneur a envoyé contre eux des lions qui les tuent, parce qu'ils ignorent la manière de servir le Dieu du pays. | 26 And this was reported to the king of the Assyrians, and it was said: “The peoples that you transferred and caused to live in the cities of Samaria, they are ignorant of the ordinances of the God of the land. And so the Lord has sent lions among them. And behold, they have killed them, because they were ignorant of the rituals of the God of the land.” |
| 27 Alors le roi des Assyriens donna cet ordre, et dit : Envoyez-y l'un des prêtres que vous en avez emmenés captifs; qu'il y retourne, et demeure avec ces peuples, et qu'il leur apprenne le culte qui doit être rendu au Dieu du pays. | 27 Then the king of the Assyrians commanded, saying: “Lead to that place one of the priests, whom you brought as a captive from there. And let him go and live with them. And let him teach them the ordinances of the God of the land.” |
| 28 Ainsi l'un des prêtres qui avaient été emmenés captifs de Samarie y revint, et demeura à Béthel, et il leur apprenait la manière dont ils devaient honorer le Seigneur. | 28 And so, when one of the priests, who had been led away captive from Samaria, had arrived, he lived in Bethel. And he taught them how they should worship the Lord. |
| 29 Chacun de ces peuples se fit son dieu; et ils les mirent dans les temples et dans les hauts lieux que les Samaritains avaient bâtis; chaque nation mit le sien dans les villes où elle habitait. | 29 And each of the nations made gods of their own, and they placed them in the shrines of the high places, which the Samaritans had made: nation after nation, in their cities in which they were living. |
| 30 Les Babyloniens se firent Sochoth-Benoth; les Cuthéens, Nergel; ceux d'Emath, Asima; | 30 So the men of Babylon made Soccoth-benoth; and the men of Cuth made Nergal; and the men of Hamath made Ashima; |
| 31 les Hévéens firent Nebahaz et Tharthac; mais ceux de Sépharvaïm faisaient passer leurs enfants par le feu, et les brûlaient à Adramélech et à Anamélech, dieux de Sépharvaïm. | 31 and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak. Then those who were from Sepharvaim burned up their children with fire, for the gods of Sepharvaim: Adram-melech and Anam-melech. |
| 32 Et néanmoins ils adoraient le Seigneur. Ils choisissaient les derniers du peuple pour les établir prêtres des hauts lieux, et ils offraient leurs sacrifices dans ces temples. | 32 But nevertheless, they worshipped the Lord. Then they made for themselves, from the least of the people, priests of the high places. And they placed them in the shrines of the high places. |
| 33 Et quoiqu'ils adorassent le Seigneur, ils servaient en même temps leurs dieux, selon la coutume des nations du milieu desquelles ils avaient été transférés en Samarie. | 33 And though they worshipped the Lord, they also served their own gods, according to the custom of the nations from which they had been transferred into Samaria. |
| 34 Ces peuples suivent encore aujourd'hui leurs anciennes coutumes. Ils ne craignent pas le Seigneur, ils ne gardent pas Ses cérémonies, ni Ses ordonnances, ni Ses lois, ni les préceptes qu'Il donna aux fils de Jacob (qu'Il surnomma Israël), | 34 Even to the present day, they follow the ancient customs; they do not fear the Lord, and they do not keep his ceremonies, and judgments, and law, and commandment, which the Lord had instructed to the sons of Jacob, whom he named Israel. |
| 35 avec lesquels Il avait fait alliance, en leur donnant ce commandement si exprès : Ne révérez point les dieux étrangers, ne les adorez pas, et ne leur sacrifiez pas; | 35 And he had struck a covenant with them, and he had commanded them, saying: “You shall not fear foreign gods, and you shall not adore them, and you shall not worship them, and you shall not sacrifice to them. |
| 36 mais rendez ces devoirs au Seigneur votre Dieu, qui vous a tirés d'Egypte par une grande puissance, et en déployant la force de Son bras. Révérez-Le, adorez-Le, et offrez-Lui vos sacrifices. | 36 But the Lord, your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt, with great strength and with an outstretched arm, him shall you fear, and him shall you adore, and to him shall you sacrifice. |
| 37 Gardez Ses cérémonies, Ses ordonnances, Ses lois, et les préceptes qu'Il vous a donnés par écrit; observez-les tous les jours de votre vie; et n'ayez aucune crainte des dieux étrangers. | 37 Also, the ceremonies, and judgments, and law, and commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall keep so that you do them for all days. And you shall not fear strange gods. |
| 38 N'oubliez jamais l'alliance qu'Il a faite avec vous, et n'honorez point les dieux étrangers; | 38 And the covenant, which he struck with you, you shall not forget; neither shall you worship strange gods. |
| 39 mais craignez le Seigneur votre Dieu, et c'est Lui qui vous délivrera de la puissance de tous vos ennemis. | 39 But you shall fear the Lord, your God. And he will rescue you from the hand of all your enemies.” |
| 40 Cependant ils n'ont point obéi, et ils ont suivi leurs anciennes coutumes. | 40 Yet truly, they did not listen to this. Instead, they acted in accord with their earlier custom. |
| 41 Ainsi ces peuples ont craint le Seigneur; mais ils ont servi en même temps les idoles. Car leurs fils et leurs petits-fils font encore aujourd'hui ce qu'ont fait leurs pères. | 41 And such were these nations: to some extent fearing the Lord, yet nevertheless also serving their idols. As for their sons and grandsons, just as their fathers acted, so also did they act, even to the present day. |
