1 Yahvé dit à Moïse et à Éléazar, fils d’Aaron le prêtre:	1 After this plague, Yahweh spoke to Moses and to the priest Eleazar son of Aaron and said:
2 “Recensez toute la communauté des Israélites, depuis l’âge de 20 ans et au-dessus, faites le compte par famille de ceux qui sont aptes à la guerre.”	2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites, by families: al those of twenty years and over, fitto bear arms in Israel.'
3 Moïse et Éléazar le prêtre leur parlèrent donc dans les Steppes-de-Moab, près du Jourdain, en face de Jéricho:	3 So Moses and the priest Eleazar took a census of them on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan byJericho. They counted
4 l’ordre de Yahvé à Moïse valait pour tous les Israélites de l’âge de 20 ans et au-dessus. Voici les fils d’Israël sortis du pays d’Égypte:	4 (as Yahweh had ordered Moses and the Israelites after leaving Egypt) men of twenty years and over:
5 Ruben premier-né d’Israël; les fils de Ruben: Hénok et le clan Hénokite, Palou et le clan Palouïte,	5 Reuben, the first-born of Israel. The sons of Reuben: for Hanoch, the Hanochite clan; for Pal u, thePal uite clan;
6 Hesron et le clan Hesronite, Karmi et le clan Karmite.	6 for Hezron, the Hezronite clan; for Carmi, the Carmite clan.
7 Ce sont les clans des Rubénites, on en recensa 43 730.	7 These were the Reubenite clans. They numbered forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty men.
8 Fils de Palou: Éliab,	8 The sons of Pallu: Eliab.
9 les fils d’Éliab: Némuel, Datan et Abiram. Datan et Abiram, qui étaient considérés dans la communauté, se révoltèrent cependant contre Moïse et Aaron. Ils faisaient partie de la bande de Coré quand elle se révolta contre Yahvé.	9 The sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. These two, Dathan and Abiram, men of repute in thecommunity, were the ones who revolted against Moses and Aaron; they belonged to Korah's group when itrevolted against Yahweh.
10 La terre ouvrit alors la bouche et les engloutit avec Coré. Leur bande disparut lorsque le feu consuma les 250 révoltés. Ce fut un exemple,	10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them (with Korah when that group perished), when fireconsumed the two hundred and fifty men. They were a sign.
11 cependant les fils de Coré ne moururent pas.	11 Korah's sons, however, did not perish.
12 Les fils de Siméon par clans: Némuel et le clan des Némuélites, Yamin et le clan Yaminite, Yakin et le clan Yakinite,	12 The sons of Simeon by clans: for Nemuel, the Nemuelite clan; for Jamin, the Jaminite clan; forJachin, the Jachinite clan;
13 Zérah et le clan Zérahite, Chaoul et le clan Chaoulite.	13 for Zerah, the Zerahite clan; for Shaul, the Shaulite clan.
14 Dans ces clans on recensa 22 200 fils de Siméon.	14 These were the Simeonite clans. They numbered twenty-two thousand two hundred men.
15 Les fils de Gad par clans: Séfon et le clan Séfonite, Haggi et le clan Haggite, Chouni et le clan Chounite,	15 The sons of Gad by clans: for Zephon, the Zephonite clan; for Haggi, the Haggite clan; for Shuni, theShunite clan;

19 Les fils de Juda: Er et Onan. Er et Onan moururent au pays de Canaan.	19 The sons of Judah: Er and Onan. Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.
20 Voici les fils de Juda et leur descendance: Chéla et le clan Chélanite, Pérès et le clan Parsite, Zérah et le clan Zarhite;	20 The other sons of Judah became clans: for Shelah, the Shelahite clan; for Perez, the Perezzite clan;for Zerah, the Zerahite clan.

22 Dans ces clans on recensa 76 500 fils de Juda.	22 These were the clans of Judah. They numbered seventy-six thousand five hundred men.
23 Les fils d’Issacar par clans: Tola et le clan Tolaïte, Pouvva et le clan Pouvvite,	23 The sons of Issachar by clans: for Tola, the Tolaite clan; for Puvah, the Puvahite clan;
24 Yachoub et le clan Yachoubite, Chimron et le clan Chimronite.	24 for Jashub, the Jashubite clan; for Shimron, the Shimronite clan.
25 Dans ces clans on recensa 64 300 fils d’Issacar.	25 These were the clans of Issachar. They numbered sixty-four thousand three hundred men.
26 Les fils de Zabulon par clans: Séred et le clan Sardite, Élon et le clan Élonite, Yakhléel et le clan Yakhléélite.	26 The sons of Zebulun by clans: for Sered, the Seredite clan; for Elon, the Elonite clan; for Jahleel, theJahleelite clan.
27 Dans ces clans on recensa 60 500 fils de Zabulon.	27 These were the clans of Zebulun. They numbered sixty thousand five hundred men.
28 Les fils de Joseph étaient Manassé et Éphraïm.	28 The sons of Joseph by clans: Manasseh and Ephraim.
29 Les fils de Manassé: Makir et le clan Makirite, Makir engendra Galaad, Galaad est le clan Galaadite,	29 The sons of Manasseh: for Machir, the Machirite clan; Machir fathered Gilead: for Gilead, theGileadite clan.

33 Séloféhad n’eut pas de fils mais des filles. Voici leurs noms: Mahla, Noa, Hogla, Milka, Tirsa.	33 Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons, only daughters; the names of Zelophehad's daughterswere Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.
34 Dans ces clans on recensa 52 700 fils de Manassé.	34 These were the clans of Manasseh. They numbered fifty-two thousand seven hundred men.
35 Voici les fils d’Éphraïm par clans: Choutéla et le clan Choutalhite, Béker et le clan Bakrite, Tahan et le clan Tahanite;	35 These were the sons of Ephraim by clans: for Shuthelah, the Shuthelahite clan; for Becher, theBecherite clan; for Tahan, the Tahanite clan.
36 fils de Choutéla: Éran et le clan Éranite.	36 These were the sons of Shuthelah: for Eran, the Eranite clan.
37 Dans ces clans on recensa 32 500 fils d’Éphraïm. Voilà les fils de Joseph par clans.	37 These were the clans of Ephraim. They numbered thirty-two thousand five hundred men. Thesewere the sons of Joseph by clans.
38 Les fils de Benjamin par clans: Béla et le clan Baléite, Achbel et le clan Achbélite, Ahiram et le clan Ahiramite,	38 The sons of Benjamin by clans: for Bela, the Belaite clan; for Ashbel, the Ashbelite clan; for Ahiram,the Ahiramite clan;
39 Chéfoufam et le clan Chéfoufamite, Houfam et le clan Houfamite;	39 for Shephupham, the Shephuphamite clan; for Hupham, the Huphamite clan.
40 Béla eut deux fils, Ard et Naaman: Ard et le clan Ardite, Naaman et le clan Naamite.	40 Bela's sons were Ard and Naaman; for Ard, the Ardite clan; for Naaman, the Naamanite clan.
41 Dans ces clans on recensa 45 600 fils de Benjamin.	41 These were the sons of Benjamin by clans. They numbered forty-five thousand six hundred men.
42 Les fils de Dan par clans: Chouham et le clan Chouhamite. Ce sont là les clans de Dan.	42 These were the sons of Dan by clans: for Shuham, the Shuhamite clan. These were the sons of Danby clans.
43 Dans ces clans on recensa 64 400 fils de Chouham.	43 All the Shuhamite clans numbered sixty-four thousand four hundred men.
44 Les fils d’Asher par clans: Yimna et le clan Yimnite, Yichvi et le clan Yichvite, Béria et le clan Bériite,	44 The sons of Asher by clans: for Imnah, the Imnahite clan; for Ishvi, the Ishvihite clan; for Beriah, theBeriahite clan.
45 fils de Béria: Héber et le clan Hébrite, Malkiel et le clan Malkielite.	45 For the sons of Beriah: for Heber, the Heberite clan; for Malchiel, the Malchielite clan.
46 La fille d’Asher se nommait Sara.	46 The daughter of Asher was called Serah.
47 Dans ces clans on recensa 53 400 fils d’Asher.	47 These were the clans of Asher. They numbered fifty-three thousand four hundred men.
48 Les fils de Nephtali: Yakhséel et le clan Yakhséélite, Gouni et le clan Gounite,	48 The sons of Naphtali by clans: for Jahzeel, the Jahzeelite clan; for Guni, the Gunite clan;
49 Yéser et le clan Yisrite, Chillem et le clan Chillemite.	49 for Jezer, the Jezerite clan; for Shil em, the Shil emite clan.
50 Dans ces clans on recensa 45 400 fils de Nephtali.	50 These were the clans of Naphtali as divided into clans. The sons of Naphtali numbered forty-fivethousand four hundred men.
51 On recensa donc 601 730 Israélites.	51 Of the Israelites thus numbered, there were six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirtymen.
52 Yahvé dit à Moïse:	52 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,
53 “Le pays leur sera partagé en héritage selon le nombre des recensés.	53 'The country must be shared out among these as a heritage, proportionately to the number of thoseinscribed.
54 Tu donneras un grand domaine à ceux qui sont nombreux et un petit domaine à ceux qui sont peu nombreux. Chacun aura son héritage selon le nombre des recensés.	54 To the large in number you wil give a large area of land, to the smal in number a small area; toeach the heritage wil be in proportion to the number registered.
55 On devra partager au sort le pays et l’héritage se répartira selon le nom des tribus d’origine.	55 The sharing out of the country must, however, be done by lot. Each wil receive a heritageproportionate to the number of names in their patriarchal tribes;
56 C’est le sort qui départagera l’héritage, pour ceux qui sont nombreux et pour ceux qui le sont moins.”	56 the heritage of each tribe wil be shared out by lot, depending on its larger or smal er numbers.'
57 Voici les Lévites recensés selon leurs clans: Guerchon et le clan Guerchonite, Kahat et le clan Kahatite, Mérari et le clan Mérarite.	57 These, by clans, are the Levites that were registered: for Gershon, the Gershonite clan; for Kohath,the Kohathite clan; for Merari, the Merarite clan.
58 Voici les clans de Lévi: le clan Libnite, le clan Hébronite, le clan Mahlite, le clan Mouchite, le clan Coréite. Kahat engendra Amram.	58 These are the Levite clans: the Libnite clan, the Hebronite clan, the Mahlite clan, the Mushite clan,the Korahite clan. Kohath fathered Amram.
59 La femme d’Amram se nommait Yokébed, fille de Lévi; elle était née en Égypte. Elle donna à Amram: Aaron, Moïse et leur sœur Miryam.	59 Amram's wife was cal ed Jokebed daughter of Levi, born to him in Egypt. To Amram she boreAaron, Moses and Miriam their sister.
60 Aaron engendra Nadab et Abihou, Éléazar et Itamar.	60 Aaron fathered Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
61 Nadab et Abihou moururent pour avoir porté devant Yahvé un feu profane.	61 Nadab and Abihu died when they brought unauthorised fire before Yahweh.
62 On recensa au total 23 000 mâles d’un mois et au-dessus. On ne les avait pas recensés avec les autres Israélites, car ils n’avaient pas à partager l’héritage avec eux.	62 Altogether twenty-three thousand males of one month and over were registered. They were notregistered with the Israelites, since they were given no heritage with the Israelites.
63 Ce sont donc là tous les hommes recensés par Moïse et Éléazar le prêtre, lors du recensement des Israélites dans les Steppes-de-Moab, près du Jourdain, à la hauteur de Jéricho.	63 Such were the men registered by Moses and the priest Eleazar who took a census of the Israeliteson the Plains of Moab near the Jordan by Jericho.
64 Aucun d’eux n’avait été recensé par Moïse et Aaron le prêtre lorsqu’ils avaient dénombré les Israélites dans le désert du Sinaï;	64 Not one of them was among those whom Moses and the priest Aaron had registered when theycounted the Israelites in the desert of Sinai;
65 Yahvé, en effet, avait dit à ces derniers qu’ils allaient tous mourir dans le désert, et qu’il n’en resterait pas un seul, excepté Caleb fils de Yéfouné, et Josué fils de Noun.	65 for Yahweh had told them that these were to die in the desert and that none of them would be leftexcept Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
