BIBBIA VOLGARE	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Chi toccherae la pece si sozzerae da essa; e chi comunicherae collo superbo si vestirae di superbia.	1 He that toucheth pitch, shall be defiled with it: and he that hath fellowship with the proud, shall put on pride.
2 Peso si leva adosso quello che comunica con più onesto di sè. Non sarai compagno con più ricco di te.	2 He shall take a burden upon him that hath fellowship with one more honourable than himself. And have no fellowship with one that is richer than thyself.
3 Che comunicherae il laveggio colla pentola? (però che) quando si stropiccieranno insieme, si romperanno.	3 What agreement shall the earthen pot have with the kettle? for if they knock one against the other, it shall be broken.
4 Il ricco ingiustamente operoe, e fremerae; e lo povero offeso tacerae.	4 The rich man hath done wrong, and yet he will fume: but the poor is wronged and must hold his peace.
5 Se tu gli donerae, torrassi te; e se tu non avrai che dare, abbandonerà te.	5 If thou give, he will make use of thee: and if thou have nothing, he will forsake thee.
6 Se tu averai, mangerà teco e [ti] vuoterà de' tuoi beni; e non si dorrà de' tuoi danni.	6 If thou have any thing, he will live with thee, and will make thee bare, and he will not be sorry for thee.
7 Se tu li sarai necessario, supplanterà te, e sorridendosi ti darae speranza, narrandoti i suoi beni, e dirae: che hai tu bisogno?	7 If he have need of thee he will deceive thee, and smiling upon thee will put thee in hope; he will speak thee fair, and will say: What wantest thou?
8 E confonderatti nelli cibi suoi, infino a tanto che tu l'aiuti, infino a due o tre volte; e alla perfine si farae beffe di te, e poi vedendoti t' abbandonerae, e scorlerae il capo suo verso di te.	8 And he will shame thee by his meats, till he have drawn thee dry twice or thrice, and at last he will laugh at thee: and afterward when he seeth thee, he will forsake thee, and shake his head at thee.
9 Umìliati a Dio, e aspetta l' adiutorio suo.	9 Humble thyself to God, and wait for his hands.
10 E guarda che tu ingannato non ti avvilisci in pazzia.	10 Beware that thou be not deceived Into folly, and be humbled.
11 Non essere umile nella sapienza tua, acciò che tu umiliato [non] sia condutto nella stoltezza.	11 Be not lowly in thy wisdom, lest being humbled thou be deceived into folly.
12 Chiamato da più potente di te, pàrtiti; però che questo più ti chiamerae a sè.	12 If thou be invited by one that is mightier, withdraw thyself: for so he will invite thee the more.
13 Non essere importuno, e non essere sospinto; non si di lungi da lui, sì che ti dimentichi.	13 Be not troublesome to him, lest thou be put back: and keep not far from him, lest thou be forgotten.
14 Non ritenere ugualmente con lui parlamento; non credere a molte parole di colui; però che di molto parlare egli ti tenterae, e sorridendoti domanderae delli tuoi secreti.	14 Affect not to speak with him as an equal: and believe not his many words: for by much talk he will sift thee, and smiling will examine thee concerning thy secrets.
15 Il fiero animo di colui serberae le tue parole; e non ti risparmierae di domandare come tu facesti nella guerra, e come nella prigione.	15 His cruel mind will lay up thy words: and he will not spare to do thee hurt, and to cast thee into prison.
16 Guàrdati, e attendi diligentemente a quello che tu udirai; però che tu vai colla tua sovversione.	16 Take heed to thyself, and attend diligently to what thou hearest: for thou walkest in danger of thy ruin.
17 Udendo tu quelle parole, sì come senza sonno attendi, e veglierai.	17 When thou hearest those things, see as it were in sleep, and thou shalt awake.
18 In tutta la vita tua ama Iddio, e invocalo in (ogni) tuo adiutorio.	18 Love God all thy life, and call upon him for thy salvation.
19 Ciascuno animale ama suo simile; e così ogni uomo ama (eguali e) prossimali a sè.	19 Every beast loveth its like: so also every man him that is nearest to himself.
20 Ogni carne si congiugnerae a simile di sè, e ogni uomo s' accompagnerae a suo simile.	20 All flesh shall consort with the like to itself, and every man shall associate himself to his like.
21 Il lupo s' accompagnerae collo agnello alcune volte; così s' accompagnerae il peccatore col giusto.	21 If the wolf shall at any time have fellowship with the lamb, so the sinner with the just.
22 Che compagnia è quella del santo uomo col cattivo? Che buona parte è dal ricco al povero?	22 What fellowship hath a holy man with a dog, or what part hath the rich with the poor?
23 L'asino selvatico sì è caccia dello leone nel bosco; e così li poveri sono pastura delli ricchi.	23 The wild ass is the lion's prey in the desert: so also the poor are devoured by the rich.
24 E sì come la umilitade è una abbominazione al superbo, così è il povero una maledizione al ricco.	24 And as humility is an abomination to the proud: so also the rich man abhorreth the poor.
25 Il ricco commosso (e adirato) è aggrandito dalli suoi amici; lo umile, quando cade, è cacciato eziandio da' suoi conoscenti.	25 When a rich man is shaken, he is kept up by his friends: but when a poor man is fallen down, he is thrust away even by his acquaintance.
26 Molti sono gli aiutatori al ricco, quando egli è ingannato; egli favelloe superbamente, e dissono ch' elli aveva ragione.	26 When a rich man hath been deceived, he hath many helpers: he hath spoken proud things, and they have justified him.
27 Lo umile è ingannato, e oltre il danno è ripreso; parlò saviamente, e non fu ascoltato.	27 The poor man was deceived, and he is rebuked also: he hath spoken wisely, and could have no place.
28 Lo ricco parlò, e tutti tacerono; e alzarono la parola sua infino a' nuvoli.	28 The rich man spoke, and all held their peace, and what he said they extol even to the clouds.
29 Il povero parlò, e dicono: chi è costui? e se elli offenderà, sovvertono colui.	29 The poor man spoke, and they say: Who is this? and if he stumble, they will overthrow him.
30 Buona è la ricchezza, alla quale non è peccato nella coscienza; e la povertà è malvagissima nella bocca dello cattivo uomo.	30 Riches are good to him that hath no sin in his conscience: and poverty is very wicked in the mouth of the ungodly.
31 Il cuore dell' uomo cambia la faccia di colui, in bene o sia in male.	31 The heart of a man changeth his countenance, either for good, or for evil.
32 Malagevolmente e con fatica troverai vestigio di buono cuore e buono viso.	32 The token of a good heart, and a good countenance thou shalt hardly find, and with labour.
