1 דִּבְרֵי לְמוּאֵל מֶלֶךְ מַשָּׂא אֲשֶׁר־יִסְּרַתּוּ אִמֹּו | 1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him. |
2 מַה־בְּרִי וּמַה־בַּר־בִּטְנִי וּמֶה בַּר־נְדָרָי | 2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? |
3 אַל־תִּתֵּן לַנָּשִׁים חֵילֶךָ וּדְרָכֶיךָ לַמְחֹות מְלָכִין | 3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. |
4 אַל לַמְלָכִים ׀ לְמֹואֵל אַל לַמְלָכִים שְׁתֹו־יָיִן וּלְרֹוזְנִים [אֹו כ] (אֵי ק) שֵׁכָר | 4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: |
5 פֶּן־יִשְׁתֶּה וְיִשְׁכַּח מְחֻקָּק וִישַׁנֶּה דִּין כָּל־בְּנֵי־עֹנִי | 5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. |
6 תְּנוּ־שֵׁכָר לְאֹובֵד וְיַיִן לְמָרֵי נָפֶשׁ | 6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. |
7 יִשְׁתֶּה וְיִשְׁכַּח רִישֹׁו וַעֲמָלֹו לֹא יִזְכָּר־עֹוד | 7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. |
8 פְּתַח־פִּיךָ לְאִלֵּם אֶל־דִּין כָּל־בְּנֵי חֲלֹוף | 8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. |
9 פְּתַח־פִּיךָ שְׁפָט־צֶדֶק וְדִין עָנִי וְאֶבְיֹון׃ פ | 9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. |
10 אֵשֶׁת־חַיִל מִי יִמְצָא וְרָחֹק מִפְּנִינִים מִכְרָהּ | 10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. |
11 בָּטַח בָּהּ לֵב בַּעְלָהּ וְשָׁלָל לֹא יֶחְסָר | 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. |
12 גְּמָלַתְהוּ טֹוב וְלֹא־רָע כֹּל יְמֵי חַיֶּיה | 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. |
13 דָּרְשָׁה צֶמֶר וּפִשְׁתִּים וַתַּעַשׂ בְּחֵפֶץ כַּפֶּיהָ | 13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. |
14 הָיְתָה כָּאֳנִיֹּות סֹוחֵר מִמֶּרְחָק תָּבִיא לַחְמָהּ | 14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. |
15 וַתָּקָם ׀ בְּעֹוד לַיְלָה וַתִּתֵּן טֶרֶף לְבֵיתָהּ וְחֹק לְנַעֲרֹתֶיהָ | 15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. |
16 זָמְמָה דֶה וַתִּקָּחֵהוּ מִפְּרִי כַפֶּיהָ [נְטַע כ] (נָטְעָה ק) כָּרֶם | 16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. |
17 חָגְרָה בְעֹוז מָתְנֶיהָ וַתְּאַמֵּץ זְרֹעֹותֶיהָ | 17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. |
18 טָעֲמָה כִּי־טֹוב סַחְרָהּ לֹא־יִכְבֶּה [בַלַּיִל כ] (בַלַּיְלָה ק) נֵרָהּ | 18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. |
19 יָדֶיהָ שִׁלְּחָה בַכִּישֹׁור וְכַפֶּיהָ תָּמְכוּ פָלֶךְ | 19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. |
20 כַּפָּהּ פָּרְשָׂה לֶעָנִי וְיָדֶיהָ שִׁלְּחָה לָאֶבְיֹון | 20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. |
21 לֹא־תִירָא לְבֵיתָהּ מִשָּׁלֶג כִּי כָל־בֵּיתָהּ לָבֻשׁ שָׁנִים | 21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. |
22 מַרְבַדִּים עָשְׂתָה־לָּהּ שֵׁשׁ וְאַרְגָּמָן לְבוּשָׁהּ | 22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. |
23 נֹודָע בַּשְּׁעָרִים בַּעְלָהּ בְּשִׁבְתֹּו עִם־זִקְנֵי־אָרֶץ | 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. |
24 סָדִין עָשְׂתָה וַתִּמְכֹּר וַחֲגֹור נָתְנָה לַכְּנַעֲנִי | 24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. |
25 עֹז־וְהָדָר לְבוּשָׁהּ וַתִּשְׂחַק לְיֹום אַחֲרֹון | 25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. |
26 פִּיהָ פָּתְחָה בְחָכְמָה וְתֹורַת־חֶסֶד עַל־לְשֹׁונָהּ | 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. |
27 צֹופִיָּה הֲלִיכֹות בֵּיתָהּ וְלֶחֶם עַצְלוּת לֹא תֹאכֵל | 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. |
28 קָמוּ בָנֶיהָ וַיְאַשְּׁרוּהָ בַּעְלָהּ וַיְהַלְלָהּ | 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. |
29 רַבֹּות בָּנֹות עָשׂוּ חָיִל וְאַתְּ עָלִית עַל־כֻּלָּנָה | 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. |
30 שֶׁקֶר הַחֵן וְהֶבֶל הַיֹּפִי אִשָּׁה יִרְאַת־יְהוָה הִיא תִתְהַלָּל | 30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. |
31 תְּנוּ־לָהּ מִפְּרִי יָדֶיהָ וִיהַלְלוּהָ בַשְּׁעָרִים מַעֲשֶׂיהָ | 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. |
32 לֹא כַבְּרִית אֲשֶׁר כָּרַתִּי אֶת־אֲבֹותָם בְּיֹום הֶחֱזִיקִי בְיָדָם לְהֹוצִיאָם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם אֲשֶׁר־הֵמָּה הֵפֵרוּ אֶת־בְּרִיתִי וְאָנֹכִי בָּעַלְתִּי בָם נְאֻם־יְהוָה | |
33 כִּי זֹאת הַבְּרִית אֲשֶׁר אֶכְרֹת אֶת־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל אַחֲרֵי הַיָּמִים הָהֵם נְאֻם־יְהוָה נָתַתִּי אֶת־תֹּורָתִי בְּקִרְבָּם וְעַל־לִבָּם אֶכְתֲּבֶנָּה וְהָיִיתִי לָהֶם לֵאלֹהִים וְהֵמָּה יִהְיוּ־לִי לְעָם | |
34 וְלֹא יְלַמְּדוּ עֹוד אִישׁ אֶת־רֵעֵהוּ וְאִישׁ אֶת־אָחִיו לֵאמֹר דְּעוּ אֶת־יְהוָה כִּי־כוּלָּם יֵדְעוּ אֹותִי לְמִקְטַנָּם וְעַד־גְּדֹולָם נְאֻם־יְהוָה כִּי אֶסְלַח לַעֲוֹנָם וּלְחַטָּאתָם לֹא אֶזְכָּר־עֹוד׃ ס | |
35 כֹּה ׀ אָמַר יְהוָה נֹתֵן שֶׁמֶשׁ לְאֹור יֹומָם חֻקֹּת יָרֵחַ וְכֹוכָבִים לְאֹור לָיְלָה רֹגַע הַיָּם וַיֶּהֱמוּ גַלָּיו יְהוָה צְבָאֹות שְׁמֹו | |
36 אִם־יָמֻשׁוּ הַחֻקִּים הָאֵלֶּה מִלְּפָנַי נְאֻם־יְהוָה גַּם זֶרַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יִשְׁבְּתוּ מִהְיֹות גֹּוי לְפָנַי כָּל־הַיָּמִים׃ ס | |
37 כֹּה ׀ אָמַר יְהוָה אִם־יִמַּדּוּ שָׁמַיִם מִלְמַעְלָה וְיֵחָקְרוּ מֹוסְדֵי־אֶרֶץ לְמָטָּה גַּם־אֲנִי אֶמְאַס בְּכָל־זֶרַע יִשְׂרָאֵל עַל־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר עָשׂוּ נְאֻם־יְהוָה׃ ס | |
38 הִנֵּה יָמִים (בָּאִים ק) נְאֻם־יְהוָה וְנִבְנְתָה הָעִיר לַיהוָה מִמִּגְדַּל חֲנַנְאֵל שַׁעַר הַפִּנָּה | |
39 וְיָצָא עֹוד [קְוֵה כ] (קָו ק) הַמִּדָּה נֶגְדֹּו עַל גִּבְעַת גָּרֵב וְנָסַב גֹּעָתָה | |
40 וְכָל־הָעֵמֶק הַפְּגָרִים ׀ וְהַדֶּשֶׁן וְכָל־ [הַשְּׁרֵמֹות כ] (הַשְּׁדֵמֹות ק) עַד־נַחַל קִדְרֹון עַד־פִּנַּת שַׁעַר הַסּוּסִים מִזְרָחָה קֹדֶשׁ לַיהוָה לֹא־יִנָּתֵשׁ וְלֹא־יֵהָרֵס עֹוד לְעֹולָם׃ ס | |
