Sirach 28

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Whoever wishes for vengeance will find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely be attentive to his sins.	1 Aquele que quer vingar sofrerá a vingança do Senhor, que guardará cuidadosamente os seus pecados.
2 Forgive your neighbor, if he has harmed you, and then your sins will be forgiven you when you pray.	2 Perdoa ao teu próximo o mal que te fez, e teus pecados serão perdoados quando o pedires.
3 A man holds on to anger against another man, and does he then seek a remedy from God?	3 Um homem guarda rancor contra outro homem, e pede a Deus a sua cura!
4 He has no mercy on a man like himself, and does he then entreat for his own sins?	4 Não tem misericórdia para com o seu semelhante, e roga o perdão dos seus pecados!
5 He who is but flesh holds on to anger, and does he then request forgiveness from God? Who can obtain pardon for his sins in this way?	5 Ele, que é apenas carne, guarda rancor, e pede a Deus que lhe seja propício! Quem, então, lhe conseguirá o perdão de seus pecados?
6 Remember your very end, and let animosities cease.	6 Lembra-te do teu fim, e põe termo às tuas inimizades,
7 For corruption and death are suspended over his commandments.	7 pois a decadência e a morte são uma ameaça (para aqueles que transgridem) os mandamentos.
8 Remember the fear of God, and do not be angry with your neighbor.	8 Lembra-te do temor a Deus, e não fiques irado contra o próximo.
9 Remember the covenant of the Most High, and overlook the ignorant offenses of your neighbor.	9 Lembra-te da aliança com o Altíssimo, e passa por cima do erro que o teu próximo cometeu inadvertidamente.
10 Refrain from strife, and you will diminish your sins.	10 Evita a desavença e diminuirás os pecados.
11 For a ill-tempered man enflames conflict, and a sinful man troubles his friends, and he casts hostility into the midst of those who have peace.	11 O homem irascível provoca as querelas; o pecador espalha a inquietação entre seus amigos, e semeia a inimizade no meio de pessoas que vivem em paz.
12 For the fire burns according to the wood of the forest. And the anger of a man burns according to the strength of the man. And according to his resources, he will exalt his anger.	12 O fogo queima na proporção da lenha que há na floresta; a ira do homem inflama-se na medida de seu poder, e desenvolve-se em proporção de sua riqueza.
13 A hasty contention kindles a fire. And a hasty quarrel sheds blood. And an accusatory tongue brings death.	13 Uma querela precipitada acende o fogo; a presteza na disputa derrama sangue; e a língua que presta (falso) testemunho causa a morte.
14 If you blow on a spark, it will increase to a fire. But if you spit on it, it will be extinguished. Both of these proceed from the mouth.	14 Sopra sobre uma centelha e ela se abrasará; cospe sobre ela e ela se apagará: ambos saem de tua boca.
15 The double-tongued whisperer is accursed. For he has disturbed many who had peace.	15 Maldito o delator e o homem que diz branco e preto, pois semeiam a discórdia entre muita gente que vive em paz.
16 A third tongue has stirred up many, and has scattered them from nation to nation.	16 A língua de um terceiro abalou muitos deles, e os afugentou de uma nação a outra.
17 It has destroyed the walled cities of the wealthy, and has undermined the houses of the great.	17 Ela destruiu as cidades fortes dos ricos, e arrasou as casas dos poderosos.
18 It has cut down the virtues of the peoples, and has broken strong nations.	18 Desbaratou os exércitos dos povos, e dispersou nações valentes.
19 A third tongue has cast down virtuous women, and has deprived them of their labors.	19 A língua de um terceiro fez repudiar mulheres de escol, e privou-as do fruto de seu labor.
20 Whoever favors it will not have rest, nor will he have a friend in whom he may find peace.	20 Aquele que o ouve não terá paz, não terá amigo em quem tenha confiança.
21 The wound of a whip causes a bruise, but the wound of the tongue will crush the bones.	21 A chicotada produz um ferimento, porém uma língua má quebra os ossos.
22 Many have fallen by the mouth of the sword, but not as many as have perished by their own tongue.	22 Muitos homens morreram pelo fio da espada, mas não tantos quanto os que pereceram por sua própria língua.
23 Blessed is he who is protected from a wicked tongue, who has not gone over to its wrath, and has not pulled its yoke, and has not been bound by its chains.	23 Feliz aquele que está ao abrigo da língua perversa, que não passou pela cólera dela, que não atraiu sobre si o seu jugo, e que não foi atado pelas suas correntes,
24 For its yoke is a yoke of iron. And its chains are chains of brass.	24 pois o jugo dela é um jugo de ferro, e suas correntes, correntes de bronze.
25 Its death is a most wicked death. And hell is more useful than it is.	25 A morte que ela dá é morte desastrada, e a moradia dos mortos é-lhe preferível.
26 Its continuance will not be permanent, but it will take hold of the ways of the unjust. And the just will not be burned by its flame.	26 Ela durará, mas não sempre; ela dominará o proceder dos injustos, e os justos não serão devorados pelas suas chamas.
27 Those who abandon God will fall by it, and it will burn within them and not be quenched. And it will be sent upon them, like a lion, and it will wound them, like a leopard.	27 Aqueles que abandonam Deus lhe serão entregues: ela os consumirá sem se apagar; lançar-se-á sobre eles como um leão; e os estraçalhará como um leopardo.
28 Hedge your ears with thorns. Do not be willing to listen to a wicked tongue. And make doors and bars for your mouth.	28 Protege teus ouvidos com uma sebe de espinhos; não dês ouvidos à língua maldosa, e põe em tua boca uma porta com ferrolhos.
29 Melt down your gold and your silver. And make a scale for your words, and an upright bridle for your mouth.	29 Derrete teu ouro e tua prata; faze uma balança para (pesar) as tuas palavras, e para a tua boca, um freio bem ajustado.
30 And be attentive, lest perhaps you may slip with your tongue, and fall in the sight of your enemies, who are lying in wait for you, and then your fall may be incurable unto death.	30 Tem cuidado para não pecar pela língua, para não caíres na presença dos inimigos que te espreitam, e para que não venha o teu pecado a ser incurável e mortal.
