1 Wisdom is better than power, and a prudent man is better than a powerful one.	1 Val meglio la sapienza che la forza, de l’uomo prudente più che il robusto.
2 Therefore, hear, O kings, and understand; learn, you judges of the ends of the earth.	2 Ascoltate adunque, o re, e intendete: imparate, o voi che giudicate i confini della terra.
3 Listen closely, you who hold the attention of the crowds, and who please yourselves by disturbing the nations.	3 Porgete orecchio, voi che dominate le folle, e vi compiacete delle masse di popoli.
4 For power has been given to you from the Lord and strength from the Most High, who will examine your works and scrutinize your thoughts.	4 Dal Signore vi fu dato il dominio e l’impero dall’Altissimo; il quale esaminerà le vostre opere e scruterà i pensieri.
5 For, when you were ministers of his kingdom, you did not judge correctly, nor keep the law of justice, nor walk according to the will of God.	5 Perchè, ministri del suo regno, non avete governato rettamente, nè avete osservato la legge di giustizia, nè secondo il volere di Dio avete camminato.
6 Horribly and quickly he will appear to you, because he will make a severe judgment for those who are in charge.	6 Terribile e veloce e’ piomberà su voi; chè rigorosissimo giudizio sarà fatto di quei che stanno in alto.
7 For, to the little, great mercy is granted, but the powerful will endure powerful torment.	7 Al tapino invero si usa misericordia, ma i potenti saranno potentemente puniti!
8 For the Lord will not exempt anyone’s character, nor will he stand in awe of anyone’s greatness, because he himself made the little and the great, and he is equally concerned for everyone.	8 Perchè non indietreggerà dinanzi a persona il Signore di tutti, nè avrà soggezione della grandezza di nessuno; chè il grande e il piccolo gli ha fatti lui e ha cura ugualmente di tutti.
9 But a powerful torture pursues the powerful.	9 Ma ai potenti sovrasta più rigoroso giudizio.
10 Therefore, O kings, these, my words, are for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not perish.	10 A voi pertanto, o re, [son rivolte] le mie parole, perchè impariate la sapienza e non cediate.
11 For those who have justly preserved justice will be justified, and those who have learned these things will find what to answer.	11 Coloro infatti che osservano giustamente le cose giuste, saran giustificati, e quei che le avranno imparate, troveranno come rispondere [a propria difesa].
12 Therefore, desire my words, love them, and you will have instruction.	12 Abbiate dunque bramosia delle mie parole, amatele [e consideratele] e sarete ammaestrati.
13 Wisdom is pure and never fades away, and is easily seen by those who love her and found by those who seek her.	13 Splendida e immarcescibile è la sapienza, e facilmente scorta da coloro che l’amano, e trovata da quei che la cercano.
14 She anticipates those who desire her, so that she first reveals herself to them.	14 Previene [anzi] quei che là bramano, col mostrarsi loro la prima.
15 Whoever awakens early to seek her, will not labor, for he will find her sitting at his door.	15 Chi sta su di buon mattino in cerca di lei, non avrà da faticare, chè la troverà seduta alla sua porta.
16 Therefore, by thinking about her, understanding is perfected, and whoever remains watchful for her, will quickly be secure.	16 Pensare ad essa è la perfezione del senno, e chi veglia a cagion sua, presto sarà sgombro da cure.
17 For she goes about seeking such as are worthy of her, and she reveals herself to them cheerfully in the ways, and meets them with all foresight.	17 Perchè ella stessa va intorno cercando chi è degno di lei, e per le vie si mostra loro di buon grado, e in ogni [loro] divisamento si fa incontro ad essi.
18 For the very true beginning of her is the desire for instruction.	18 Il princìpio di essa invero, è una sincerissima brama d’istruzione,
19 Therefore, the zeal for instruction is love, and love is the keeping of her laws, and the keeping of her laws is the perfection of incorruptibility,	19 e la premura d’istruzione è amore; l'amore poi è osservanza delle sue leggi, e l'adempimento delle leggi è sicurezza d'immortalità;
20 while incorruptibility makes us near to God.	20 ma l'immortalità fa esser vicini a Dio:
21 And so, the desire for wisdom leads to an everlasting kingdom.	21 la brama pertanto della sapienza conduce al regno (eterno).
22 If, therefore, your delight is in thrones and scepters, O kings of the people, love wisdom, so that you may reign forever;	22 Se quindi vi compiacete di troni e di scettri, o dominatori di popoli, amate [e onorate] la sapienza, per regnare in eterno.
23 love the light of wisdom, all you who lead the peoples.	23 Amate la luce della sapienza, voi tutti che siete a capo di popoli.
24 But what wisdom is, and how she was made, I will report, and I will not hide the mysteries of God from you, but I will investigate her from the beginning of her birth, and I will place the knowledge of her in the light, and will not pass over the truth.	24 Cosa poi sia la sapienza e quale la sua origine, io [vi] annuncerò, nè vi nasconderò i misteri di Dio; ma dal principio della creazione andrò Investigando e porrò in luce la nozione di essa, e non dissimulerò la verità.
25 Neither will I hold to the path that dwindles away with envy, because such a man will not partake in wisdom.	25 Nè mi accompagnerò con l'invidia che si strugge, perchè questa non avrà parte nella sapienza.
26 For the proliferation of the wise is sanity for the world, and a wise king is the mainstay of the people.	26 La moltitudine de' sapienti è salvezza del mondo, e un re prudente, stabilità del popolo.
27 Therefore, receive instruction by my words, and it will benefit you.	27 Lasciatevi dunque ammaestrare dalle mie parole, e ne avrete vantaggio.
