A Canticle in steps. From the depths, I have cried out to you, O Lord. | 1 [Song of Ascents] Often as men have attacked me since I was young -- let Israel repeat it- |
O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. | 2 often as men have attacked me since I was young, they have never overcome me. |
If you, O Lord, were to heed iniquities, who, O Lord, could persevere? | 3 On my back ploughmen have set to work, making long furrows, |
For with you, there is forgiveness, and because of your law, I persevered with you, Lord. My soul has persevered in his word. | 4 but Yahweh the upright has shattered the yoke of the wicked. |
My soul has hoped in the Lord. | 5 Let al who hate Zion be thrown back in confusion, |
From the morning watch, even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. | 6 let them be like grass on a roof, dried up before it is cut, |
For with the Lord there is mercy, and with him there is bountiful redemption. | 7 never to fil the reaper's arm nor the binder's lap. |
And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities. | 8 And no passer-by wil say, 'The blessing of Yahweh be on you! 'We bless you in the name ofYahweh.' |
