1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.	1 Non gloriarti del giorno di domani; Perciocchè tu non sai ciò che il giorno partorirà
2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.	2 Loditi lo strano, e non la tua propria bocca; Lo straniero, e non le tue proprie labbra
3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.	3 Le pietre son pesanti, e la rena è grave; Ma l’ira dello stolto è più pesante che amendue quelle cose.
4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?	4 La collera è una cosa crudele, e l’ira una cosa strabocchevole; E chi potrà durar davanti alla gelosia?
5 Better open reproof than feigned love.	5 Meglio vale riprensione palese, Che amore occulto.
6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.	6 Le ferite di chi ama son leali; Ma i baci di chi odia sono simulati
7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.	7 La persona satolla calca il favo del miele; Ma alla persona affamata ogni cosa amara è dolce
8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.	8 Quale è l’uccelletto, che va ramingo fuor del suo nido, Tale è l’uomo che va vagando fuor del suo luogo
9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.	9 L’olio odorifero e il profumo rallegrano il cuore; Così fa la dolcezza dell’amico dell’uomo per consiglio cordiale.
10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.	10 Non lasciare il tuo amico, nè l’amico di tuo padre; E non entrare in casa del tuo fratello nel giorno della tua calamità; Meglio vale un vicino presso, che un fratello lontano
11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.	11 Figliuol mio, sii savio, e rallegra il mio cuore; Ed io avrò che rispondere a colui che mi farà vituperio
12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	12 L’uomo avveduto, veggendo il male, si nasconde; Ma gli scempi passano oltre, e ne portano la pena
13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.	13 Prendi pure il vestimento di chi ha fatta sicurtà per lo strano; E prendi pegno da lui per la straniera
14 Whoever at dawn loudly blesses his neighbour -- it will be reckoned to him as a curse.	14 Chi benedice il suo prossimo ad alta voce, Levandosi la mattina a buon’ora, Ciò gli sarà reputato in maledizione
15 The dripping of a gutter on a rainy day and a quarrelsome woman are alike;	15 Un gocciolar continuo in giorno di gran pioggia, E una donna rissosa, è tutt’uno.
16 whoever can restrain her, can restrain the wind, and take a firm hold on grease.	16 Chi vuol tenerla serrata, pubblica di voler serrar del vento, E dell’olio nella sua man destra
17 Iron is sharpened by iron, one person is sharpened by contact with another.	17 Il ferro si pulisce col ferro; Così l’uomo pulisce la faccia del suo prossimo
18 Whoever tends the fig tree eats its figs, whoever looks after his master wil be honoured.	18 Chi guarda il fico ne mangia il frutto; Così chi guarda il suo signore sarà onorato
19 As water reflects face back to face, so one human heart reflects another.	19 Come l’acqua rappresenta la faccia alla faccia; Così il cuor dell’uomo rappresenta l’uomo all’uomo
20 Sheol and Perdition are never satisfied, insatiable, too, are human eyes.	20 Il sepolcro, e il luogo della perdizione, non son giammai satolli; Così anche giammai non si saziano gli occhi dell’uomo
21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.	21 La coppella è per l’argento, e il fornello per l’oro; Ma l’uomo è provato per la bocca che lo loda
22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.	22 Avvegnachè tu pestassi lo stolto in un mortaio, Col pestello, per mezzo del grano infranto, La sua follia non si dipartirebbe però da lui
23 Know your flocks' condition well, take good care of your herds;	23 Abbi diligentemente cura delle tue pecore, Metti il cuor tuo alle mandre.
24 for riches do not last for ever, crowns do not hand themselves on from age to age.	24 Perciocchè i tesori non durano in perpetuo; E la corona è ella per ogni età?
25 The grass once gone, the aftergrowth appearing, the hay gathered in from the mountains,	25 Il fieno nasce, e l’erbaggio spunta, E le erbe de’ monti son raccolte.
26 you should have lambs to clothe you, goats to buy you a field,	26 Gli agnelli son per lo tuo vestire, E i becchi sono il prezzo di un campo.
27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.	27 E l’abbondanza del latte delle capre è per tuo cibo, E per cibo di casa tua, E per lo vitto delle tue serventi
