1 Chronicles 21

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Satan took his stand against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.	1 Satana insorse contro Israele e sedusse Davide perché facesse il censimento d'Israele.
2 David said to Joab and the people's princes, 'Go, and take a census of Israel, from Beersheba to Dan,then bring it back to me and let me know the total.'	2 Davide ordinò a Ioab e ai prìncipi del popolo: "Andate, contate gli Israeliti da Bersabea a Dan; quindi fatemi il rapporto, perché conosca il loro numero".
3 Joab replied, 'May Yahweh multiply his people to a hundred times what they are today! But my lordking, are they not all my lord's servants in any case? Why should my lord insist on this? Why should he involveIsrael in guilt?'	3 Ioab rispose: "Il Signore aumenti il suo popolo cento volte tanto! Ma non sono forse tutti, o mio signore, servi del mio signore? Perché il mio signore fa questa inchiesta? Perché si dovrebbe imputare una colpa a Israele?".
4 But the king enforced his order on Joab, and Joab set out, travelled throughout al Israel, and thenreturned to Jerusalem.	4 Ma il comando del re prevalse su Ioab, il quale, partito, percorse tutto Israele; quindi fece ritorno a Gerusalemme.
5 Joab gave David the census results for the people: al Israel had eleven hundred thousand men whocould wield a sword; Judah had four hundred and seventy thousand men who could wield a sword.	5 Ioab consegnò a Davide il numero del censimento popolare. Tutto Israele contava un milione e centomila uomini capaci di maneggiare la spada; Giuda aveva quattrocentosettantamila uomini atti al maneggio della spada.
6 Joab had found the king's command so distasteful that he did not include Levi and Benjamin.	6 Fra costoro Ioab non recensì i leviti né la tribù di Beniamino, perché l'ordine del re gli sembrava abominevole.
7 God looked with displeasure on this and punished Israel in consequence.	7 Il fatto dispiacque agli occhi di Dio, il quale perciò colpì Israele.
8 David then said to God, 'I have committed a grave sin by doing this. But now I beg you to forgive yourservant for this fault, for I have acted very foolishly.'	8 Davide disse a Dio: "Ho peccato gravemente compiendo quest'azione. Ora perdona, di grazia, la colpa del tuo servo, giacché ho agito con grande stoltezza!".
9 Yahweh then spoke to Gad, David's seer,	9 Allora il Signore parlò così a Gad, veggente di Davide:
10 'Go and say to David, "Yahweh says this: I offer you three things; choose which one of them I am toinflict on you." '	10 "Va' a dire a Davide: "Così dice il Signore: Ti propongo tre cose, scegliti una di queste e io te la realizzerò".
11 So Gad went to David and said, 'Yahweh says this,	11 Gad si presentò a Davide e gli disse: "Così dice il Signore:
12 "Take your choice between three years of famine; or three months of disaster at the hands of yourenemies, with your enemies' sword overtaking you; or three days of Yahweh's sword, an epidemic in the country,while the angel of Yahweh wreaks havoc throughout the territory of Israel." Now decide how I am to answer himwho sends me.'	12 "Scegliti o tre anni di carestia, ovvero tre mesi di fuga per te davanti ai tuoi nemici sotto i colpi della spada dei tuoi avversari, ovvero tre giorni di spada del Signore, ossia la peste nel paese con l'angelo del Signore che porta lo sterminio in tutto il territorio d'Israele". Decidi ciò che debbo rispondere a colui che mi manda".
13 David said to Gad, 'I am very apprehensive. Better for me to fal into Yahweh's hand, since hismercies are very great, than for me to fal into the hands of human enemies.'	13 Davide disse a Gad: "Sono molto angustiato! Possa cadere nelle mani del Signore, la cui misericordia è grandissima, ma che non cada nelle mani degli uomini!".
14 So Yahweh unleashed an epidemic on Israel, and seventy thousand Israelites succumbed.	14 Così il Signore inviò la peste in Israele; caddero settantamila Israeliti.
15 Next, God sent the angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but as he was about to destroy it, Yahwehlooked down and felt sorry about the calamity; and he said to the destroying angel, 'Enough now! Hold yourhand!' The angel of Yahweh was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	15 Dio mandò un angelo in Gerusalemme per sterminarla; mentre egli stava per sterminarla, il Signore volse lo sguardo e si pentì della sciagura minacciata. Egli disse all'angelo sterminatore: "Ora basta! Ritira la tua mano". L'angelo del Signore stava ritto presso l'aia di Ornan il gebuseo.
16 David, raising his eyes, saw the angel of Yahweh standing between earth and heaven, a drawnsword in his hand stretched out towards Jerusalem. David and the elders then put on sackcloth and fel on theirfaces,	16 Davide alzò gli occhi e vide l'angelo del Signore che stava ritto fra terra e cielo con in mano la spada sguainata e puntata verso Gerusalemme. Allora Davide e gli anziani, vestiti di sacco, caddero con la faccia a terra.
17 and David said to God, 'Did I not order the people to be counted? I was the one who sinned andactual y committed the wrong. But these, the flock, what have they done? Yahweh my God, let your hand lieheavy on me and on my family; but spare your people from the plague!'	17 Davide disse a Dio: "Non sono forse stato io a ordinare che si facesse il censimento del popolo? Io ho peccato e commesso il male; mentre costoro, il gregge, che cosa hanno fatto? Signore, Dio mio, la tua mano sia sopra di me e la mia famiglia, ma non colpisca il tuo popolo!".
18 The angel of Yahweh then ordered Gad to tel David that David should go up and erect an altar toYahweh on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	18 Allora l'angelo del Signore ordinò a Gad di dire a Davide che salisse a erigere un altare al Signore nell'aia di Ornan il gebuseo.
19 So, at Gad's bidding, given in Yahweh's name, David went up.	19 Davide vi salì secondo l'ordine di Gad comunicatogli in nome del Signore.
20 Ornan had turned round and seen the angel, and he and his four sons with him had hidden.	20 Ornan si voltò e vide l'angelo; i suoi quaranta figli, che erano con lui, si nascosero; mentre Ornan stava battendo il grano,
21 When David arrived Ornan was threshing wheat. He looked up and saw David and came off thethreshing-floor and prostrated himself on the ground at David's feet.	21 Davide gli si avvicinò. Ornan guardò e, riconosciuto Davide, uscì dall'aia e si prostrò davanti a lui con la faccia a terra.
22 David then said to Ornan, 'Let me have the site of the threshing-floor, so that I can build an altar toYahweh on it; let me have it at the ful price -- so that the plague may be lifted from the people.' Ornan said toDavid,	22 Davide disse a Ornan: "Cedimi il sito dell'aia, perché vi possa costruire un altare al Signore; cedimelo per tutto il suo valore, cosicché il flagello cessi di infierire sul popolo".
23 'Take it, and let my lord the king do what he thinks fit. Look, I shal give you the oxen for burntofferings, the threshing-sleds for the wood and the wheat for the oblation. I shal give everything.'	23 Ornan disse a Davide: "Prenditelo! Il re, mio signore, ne faccia ciò che gli sembra bene. Ecco, in più ti offro i buoi per gli olocausti, le trebbie per la legna ed il grano per l'oblazione; io offro tutto!".
24 'No,' said King David to Ornan, 'I insist on buying it at the ful price. I wil not offer Yahweh whatbelongs to you or bring burnt offerings which have cost me nothing.'	24 Il re Davide rispose a Ornan: "No! voglio acquistarlo per il suo pieno valore in denaro, giacché non intendo prendere ciò che appartiene a te per offrirlo al Signore in olocausto gratuitamente".
25 So David gave Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the site.	25 Davide diede a Ornan per il terreno il prezzo di seicento sicli d'oro.
26 There David built an altar to Yahweh and brought burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called onYahweh, and Yahweh answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.	26 Quivi Davide eresse un altare al Signore, vi offrì olocausti e sacrifici pacifici e invocò il Signore, il quale rispose con il fuoco disceso dal cielo sull'altare dell'olocausto.
27 Then Yahweh ordered the angel to sheathe his sword.	27 Allora il Signore ordinò all'angelo e questi rimise la sua spada nel fodero.
28 Whereupon, seeing that Yahweh had answered him on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,David offered sacrifice there.	28 In quel tempo, vedendo Davide che il Signore l'aveva esaudito nell'aia di Ornan, il gebuseo, offrì ivi un sacrificio.
29 The Dwel ing which Moses had made in the desert and the altar of burnt offering were at that time onthe high place at Gibeon,	29 La dimora del Signore, eretta da Mosè nel deserto, e l'altare dell'olocausto si trovavano in quel tempo sull'altura di Gabaon,
30 but David could not go there to consult God because he was terrified of the angel's sword.	30 ma Davide non osava recarsi là per consultare Dio, perché aveva avuto molta paura davanti alla spada dell'angelo del Signore.
