1 Chronicles 21

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Satan took his stand against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.	1 Satán se alzó contra Israel e instigó a David a hacer un censo de Israel.
2 David said to Joab and the people's princes, 'Go, and take a census of Israel, from Beersheba to Dan,then bring it back to me and let me know the total.'	2 David dijo a Joab y a los jefes del pueblo: «Vayan a hacer el recuento de Israel, desde Berseba hasta Dan, y tráiganme el resultado para que sepa cuántos son».
3 Joab replied, 'May Yahweh multiply his people to a hundred times what they are today! But my lordking, are they not all my lord's servants in any case? Why should my lord insist on this? Why should he involveIsrael in guilt?'	3 Joab respondió: «¡Que el Señor multiplique a su pueblo cien veces más! Pero, rey y señor mío, ¿no son todos ellos tus servidores? ¿Por qué entonces mi señor hace esto? ¿Por qué cargar con una culpa a Israel?».
4 But the king enforced his order on Joab, and Joab set out, travelled throughout al Israel, and thenreturned to Jerusalem.	4 Sin embargo, la orden del rey prevaleció sobre el parecer de Joab, y este salió a recorrer todo Israel. Luego volvió a Jerusalén
5 Joab gave David the census results for the people: al Israel had eleven hundred thousand men whocould wield a sword; Judah had four hundred and seventy thousand men who could wield a sword.	5 y presentó a David las cifras del censo de la población: en todo Israel había 1.100.000 hombres aptos para el servicio militar, y en Judá, 470.000.
6 Joab had found the king's command so distasteful that he did not include Levi and Benjamin.	6 Pero Joab no incluyó en el censo ni a Leví ni a Benjamín, porque consideraba abominable la orden del rey.
7 God looked with displeasure on this and punished Israel in consequence.	7 Dios vio esto con malos ojos y castigó a Israel.
8 David then said to God, 'I have committed a grave sin by doing this. But now I beg you to forgive yourservant for this fault, for I have acted very foolishly.'	8 Entonces David dijo a Dios: «He cometido un grave pecado al obrar de esta manera. Dígnate ahora borrar la falta de tu servidor, porque me he comportado como un necio».
9 Yahweh then spoke to Gad, David's seer,	9 El Señor dirigió su palabra a Gad, el vidente de David, en estos términos:
10 'Go and say to David, "Yahweh says this: I offer you three things; choose which one of them I am toinflict on you." '	10 «Ve a decir a David: Así habla el Señor: Te propongo tres cosas. Elige una, y yo la llevaré a cabo».
11 So Gad went to David and said, 'Yahweh says this,	11 Gad se presentó a David y le dijo: «Así habla el Señor: Tienes que elegir,
12 "Take your choice between three years of famine; or three months of disaster at the hands of yourenemies, with your enemies' sword overtaking you; or three days of Yahweh's sword, an epidemic in the country,while the angel of Yahweh wreaks havoc throughout the territory of Israel." Now decide how I am to answer himwho sends me.'	12 o bien tres años de hambre; o bien tres meses de derrotas ante tus enemigos, bajo los golpes de espada de tus adversarios; o bien tres días en que la espada del Señor y la peste asolarán el país y el Angel del Señor hará estragos en todo el territorio de Israel. Ahora mira bien qué debo responder al que me envió».
13 David said to Gad, 'I am very apprehensive. Better for me to fal into Yahweh's hand, since hismercies are very great, than for me to fal into the hands of human enemies.'	13 David dijo a Gad: «¡Estoy en un grave aprieto! Prefiero caer en manos del Señor, porque es muy grande su misericordia, antes que caer en manos de los hombres».
14 So Yahweh unleashed an epidemic on Israel, and seventy thousand Israelites succumbed.	14 Entonces el Señor envió la peste a Israel, y cayeron setenta mil hombres de Israel.
15 Next, God sent the angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but as he was about to destroy it, Yahwehlooked down and felt sorry about the calamity; and he said to the destroying angel, 'Enough now! Hold yourhand!' The angel of Yahweh was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	15 Dios mandó un Angel a Jerusalén para exterminarla; pero cuando la estaba exterminando, el Señor miró y se arrepintió del mal que le infligía, y dijo al Angel exterminador: «¡Basta ya! ¡Retira tu mano!». El Angel del Señor estaba junto a la era de Ornán, el jebuseo.
16 David, raising his eyes, saw the angel of Yahweh standing between earth and heaven, a drawnsword in his hand stretched out towards Jerusalem. David and the elders then put on sackcloth and fel on theirfaces,	16 David alzó los ojos, y vio al Angel del Señor erguido entre la tierra y el cielo, con su espada desenvainada en la mano, apuntando hacia Jerusalén. David y los ancianos, vestidos de sayales, cayeron con el rostro en tierra,
17 and David said to God, 'Did I not order the people to be counted? I was the one who sinned andactual y committed the wrong. But these, the flock, what have they done? Yahweh my God, let your hand lieheavy on me and on my family; but spare your people from the plague!'	17 y David dijo a Dios: «¿No he sido yo el que ordenó hacer el recuento del pueblo? ¿No he sido yo el que ha pecado y ha obrado mal? Pero estos, las ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? ¡Señor, Dios mío, descarga tu mano sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre, pero no castigues a tu pueblo!».
18 The angel of Yahweh then ordered Gad to tel David that David should go up and erect an altar toYahweh on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	18 El Angel del Señor ordenó a Gad que dijera a David: «Que David suba a erigir un altar al Señor en la era de Ornán, el jebuseo».
19 So, at Gad's bidding, given in Yahweh's name, David went up.	19 David subió, conforme a la palabra que había dicho Gad en nombre del Señor.
20 Ornan had turned round and seen the angel, and he and his four sons with him had hidden.	20 Ornán, que estaba trillando el trigo, al darse vuelta, había visto al Angel, y los cuatro hijos que estaban con él se habían escondido.
21 When David arrived Ornan was threshing wheat. He looked up and saw David and came off thethreshing-floor and prostrated himself on the ground at David's feet.	21 David llegó adonde estaba Ornán. Este dirigió una mirada y, al ver a David, salió de la era y se postró delante de él con el rostro en tierra.
22 David then said to Ornan, 'Let me have the site of the threshing-floor, so that I can build an altar toYahweh on it; let me have it at the ful price -- so that the plague may be lifted from the people.' Ornan said toDavid,	22 David dijo entonces a Ornán: «Cédeme el terreno de la era para edificar en él un altar al Señor; entrégamelo por su valor real, y así cesará la plaga que azota a mi pueblo».
23 'Take it, and let my lord the king do what he thinks fit. Look, I shal give you the oxen for burntofferings, the threshing-sleds for the wood and the wheat for the oblation. I shal give everything.'	23 Ornán respondió a David: «Tómala, y que mi señor el rey haga con ella lo que mejor le parezca. Te doy los bueyes para los holocaustos, los trillos para que sirvan de leña y el trigo para la oblación. Yo te entrego todo esto».
24 'No,' said King David to Ornan, 'I insist on buying it at the ful price. I wil not offer Yahweh whatbelongs to you or bring burnt offerings which have cost me nothing.'	24 Pero el rey David dijo a Ornán: «¡De ninguna manera! La compraré por su precio real en plata, porque no voy a tomar para el Señor lo que te pertenece, ni voy a ofrecer un holocausto que no cuesta nada».
25 So David gave Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the site.	25 Así David entregó a Ornán por ese terreno la suma de seiscientos siclos de oro.
26 There David built an altar to Yahweh and brought burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called onYahweh, and Yahweh answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.	26 Allí edificó David un altar al Señor, y ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios de comunión. Invocó al Señor, y él le respondió enviando fuego del cielo sobre el altar del holocausto.
27 Then Yahweh ordered the angel to sheathe his sword.	27 Y el Señor ordenó al Angel que volviera a enfundar su espada.
28 Whereupon, seeing that Yahweh had answered him on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,David offered sacrifice there.	28 En aquel tiempo, al ver que el Señor le había respondido en la era de Ornán, el jebuseo, David ofreció sacrificios allí.
29 The Dwel ing which Moses had made in the desert and the altar of burnt offering were at that time onthe high place at Gibeon,	29 La Morada del Señor, que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar de los holocaustos estaban entonces en el lugar alto de Gabaón.
30 but David could not go there to consult God because he was terrified of the angel's sword.	30 Pero David no había podido presentarse allí para consultar a Dios, porque la espada del Angel del Señor lo había llenado de terror.
