NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
For the leader; according to "Lilies." A maskil of the Korahites. A love song.1 Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the sons of Core, for understanding. A canticle for the Beloved.
My heart is stirred by a noble theme, as I sing my ode to the king. My tongue is the pen of a nimble scribe.2 My heart hath uttered a good word I speak my works to the king; My tongue is the pen of a scrivener that writeth swiftly.
You are the most handsome of men; fair speech has graced your lips, for God has blessed you forever.3 Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; therefore hath God blessed thee for ever
Gird your sword upon your hip, mighty warrior! In splendor and majesty ride on triumphant!4 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O thou most mighty.
In the cause of truth and justice may your right hand show you wondrous deeds.5 With thy comeliness and thy beauty set out, proceed prosperously, and reign. Because of truth and meekness and justice: and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully.
Your arrows are sharp; peoples will cower at your feet; the king's enemies will lose heart.6 Thy arrows are sharp: under thee shall people fall, into the hearts of the king's enemies.
Your throne, O god, stands forever; your royal scepter is a scepter for justice.7 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness.
You love justice and hate wrongdoing; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellow kings.8 Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
With myrrh, aloes, and cassia your robes are fragrant. From ivory-paneled palaces stringed instruments bring you joy.9 Myrrh and stacte and cassia perfume thy garments, from the ivory houses: out of which
Daughters of kings are your lovely wives; a princess arrayed in Ophir's gold comes to stand at your right hand.10 the daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety.
Listen, my daughter, and understand; pay me careful heed. Forget your people and your father's house,11 Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thy ear: and forget thy people and thy father's house.
that the king might desire your beauty. He is your lord;12 And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore.
honor him, daughter of Tyre. Then the richest of the people will seek your favor with gifts.13 And the daughters of Tyre with gifts, yea, all the rich among the people, shall entreat thy countenance.
All glorious is the king's daughter as she enters, her raiment threaded with gold;14 All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders,
In embroidered apparel she is led to the king. The maids of her train are presented to the king.15 clothed round about with varieties. After her shall virgins be brought to the king: her neighbours shall be brought to thee.
They are led in with glad and joyous acclaim; they enter the palace of the king.16 They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the king.
The throne of your fathers your sons will have; you shall make them princes through all the land.17 Instead of thy fathers, sons are born to thee: thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.
I will make your name renowned through all generations; thus nations shall praise you forever.18 They shall remember thy name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise thee for ever; yea, for ever and ever.
