Siracide 10

1 Il saggio re renderà la giustizia alsuo popolo, e il principato dell'uomo sensato sarà stabile.	1 A wise judge will judge his people, and the leadership of an understanding man will be steadfast.
2 Quale è il giudice del popolo, tali i suoi ministri; e qual è il governatore della città, tali sono i suoi abitanti.	2 As the judge of the people is, so also are his assistants. And whatever kind of man the ruler of a city is, of such a kind also are those who live in it.
3 Un re imprudente rovinerà il suo popolo: la prudenza de' grandi popolerà le cittadi.	3 A foolish king will be the ruin of his people. For cities will be inhabited through the understanding of those with power.
4 Il dominio della terra è nella mano di Dio, ed egli lo darà a suo tempo a chi la governi utilmente.	4 Power over the earth is in the hand of God, and, in due time, he will raise up a helpful leader over the earth.
5 La felicità dell'uomo è nelle mani di Dio, ed egli alla persona del dottor della legge fa parte della sua gloria.	5 The prosperity of a man is in the hand of God, and he will place his honor above the face of the scribe.
6 Non aver memoria di alcuna delle ingiurie ricevute dal prossimo: e non far cosa veruna per nuocere altrui.	6 You should forget all injury done to you by your neighbor, and you should do nothing among the works of injury.
7 E odiata da Dio, e dagli uomini la superbia, ed è avuta in esecrazione tutta l'iniquità delle genti.	7 Arrogance is hateful in the sight of God and of men. And all iniquity among the nations is abominable.
8 Il regno è trasportato da' una ad altra nazione a causa delle ingiustizie,e delle violenze, e degli oltraggi, e delle fraudi di molte maniere.	8 A kingdom is transferred from one people to another because of injustices, and injuries, and contempt, and every kind of deceit.
9 Nulla v'ha di più scellerato dell'avaro. Come mai la terra, e la cenere si leva in superbia.	9 But nothing is more wicked than a greedy man. Why should that which is earth and ashes be arrogant?
10 Nulla v'ha di più iniquo, che colui, che ama il denaro; perocché questi mette in vendita anche l'anima sua; perocché egli ancor vivo si cava le proprie sue viscere.	10 There is nothing more iniquitous than to love money. For such a one has sold even his own soul. For in his life, he casts aside his innermost being.
11 Ogni potentato di corta vita. La lunga malattìa stanca il medico;	11 All power is of short life. A prolonged sickness is of grave concern to a physician.
12 E fa breve la malattia il medico col troncarla; cosi anche il re, oggi è, e domani morrà.	12 A physician causes a sickness to be shortened. So also, a king is here today, and tomorrow he will die.
13 Or l'uomo alla sua morte avrà per suo retaggio de' sergenti, e delle bestie, e de' vermi.	13 For when a man dies, he will inherit serpents, and wild beasts, and worms.
14 La prima superbia dell'uomo è di apostatare da Dio:	14 The beginning of the arrogance of man is apostasy from God.
15 Mentre il cuor di lui si allontana da colui, che lò creò; onde il primo di tutti i peccati ell'è la superbia: e chi è governato da lei, sarà ricolmo di abbominazioni, ed ella alla fine lo manderà in rovina.	15 For his heart has withdrawn from the One who made him. For arrogance is the beginning of all sin. Whoever holds to it, will be filled with evil words, and it will overthrow him in the end.
16 Per questo il Signore caricò di ignominie la razza dei malvagi, e li distrasse fino all'esterminio.	16 Because of this, the Lord has dishonored the gatherings of the evil, and he has destroyed them, even unto the end.
17 Dio gettò a terra i troni de' principi superbi, e in luogo di essi fece sedere i mansueti.	17 God has destroyed the seats of arrogant leaders, and he has caused the meek to be seated in their place.
18 Dio fe' seccar le radici delle superbe nazioni: e piantò quelli, che tra le genti medesime erano abbietti.	18 The roots of arrogant nations, God has dried up, and the humble among these nations, he has planted.
19 Il Signore distrusse le terre delle nazioni, e rovinolle dai fondamenti;	19 The Lord has overthrown the lands of the Gentiles, and he has utterly destroyed them, even to their foundation.
20 Alcune di esse egli le desolò, e né sperse gli abitanti, e fece sparire dal mondo la loro memoria.	20 He has dried up some of them, and he has utterly destroyed them, and he has caused their memory to depart from the earth.
21 Dio annichilò la memoria de' superbi, e conservò la memoria degli umili di spirito.	21 God has abolished the memory of the arrogant, and he has left behind only the memory of those who are humble in mind.
22 Non è ingenita agli uomini la superbia, né l'iracondia ai figliuoli delle donne.	22 Arrogance was not created for men, nor was an angry temperament created for the gender of women.
23 Quella stirpe di uomini, che teme Dio, sarà onorata; e disonorata sarà quella stirpe, che trasgredisce i comandamenti del Signore.	23 Those who fear God among the offspring of men will be honored. But those among the offspring who ignore the commandments of the Lord will be dishonored.
24 Trai fratelli quegli, che governa è in onore; cosi dinanzi al Signore sarà di quelli, che lo temono.	24 In the midst of his brothers, a ruler has honor. And those who fear the Lord will have honor in his eyes.
25 La gloria de' ricchi, e degli uomini in dignità, e de' poveri è il timor del Signore.	25 The fear of God is the glory of the wealthy, and of the honorable, and of the poor.
26 Guardati dal disprezzare il giusto, perché povero: guardati dal far grande stima del peccatore, perché ricco.	26 Do not choose to despise a just man who is poor, and do not choose to magnify a sinful man who is rich.
27 I grandi, i magistrati, i potenti sono onorati; ma nissuno è da più dì quello, che teme Dio.	27 The great man, and the judge, and the powerful have honor. But no one is greater than he who fears God.
28 Al servo sapiente serviranno uomini liberi, e l'uom prudente, e disciplinato non mormorerà quando sia ripreso; ma l'imprudente non otterrà gli onori.	28 Those who are free will serve an understanding servant. And a prudent and disciplined man will not murmur at correction. But an ignorant man will not be honored.
29 Non vantar tua grandezza quando hai da fare il fatto tuo, e non istare a vedere nel tempo di necessità;	29 Do not choose to extol yourself in doing your work, and do not be unproductive during the time of distress.
30 Perocché è più stimabile colui, che lavora, e abbonda dì tutto, che il glorioso, il quale manca di pane.	30 He who works, and so abounds in all things, is better than he who boasts, and so lacks bread.
31 Figliuolo custodisci colla mansuetudine l'anima tua, e onorala, secondo che ella merita.	31 Son, preserve your soul in meekness, and give it honor according to its merit.
32 Chi giustificherà colui, che pecca contro l'anima sua? e chi onorerà colui, che disonora l'anima propria?	32 Who will justify one who sins in his soul? And who will honor one who dishonors his soul?
33 Il povero arrida alla gloria per mezzo de' buoni costumi, e del timore di Dio; ed havvi chi è rispettato a motivo di sue ricchezze.	33 The poor man is glorified by his discipline and fear. And there is a man who is honored because of his substance.
34 Ma colui, che è glorioso nella povertà, quanto più il sarebbe colle ricchezze? Ma colui, che fonda sua gloria: nelle ricchezze ha da temere là povertà.	34 But if someone is glorified in poverty, how much more in substance? And whoever is glorified in substance, let him fear poverty.
