Proverbs 3

1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:	1 Mon fils, n'oublie pas ma loi, et que ton coeur garde mes préceptes;
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.	2 car c'est la longueur des jours et des années de vie, et la paix qu'ils te procureront.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:	3 Que la miséricorde et la vérité ne t'abandonnent pas. Lie-les autour de ton cou, et grave-les sur les tables de ton coeur,
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.	4 et tu trouveras grâce et bonne instruction devant Dieu et devant les hommes.
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.	5 Aie confiance en Dieu de tout ton coeur, et ne t'appuie pas sur ta prudence.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.	6 Pense à lui dans toutes tes voies, et Il conduira Lui-même tes pas.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.	7 Ne sois point sage à tes propres yeux; crains Dieu, et éloigne-toi du mal;
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.	8 car ce sera la santé pour ta chair, et le rafraîchissement de tes os.
9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:	9 Honore le Seigneur avec tes biens, et donne-Lui les prémices de tous tes fruits;
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.	10 et tes greniers seront remplis d'abondance, et tes pressoirs regorgeront de vin.
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:	11 Mon fils, ne rejette pas la correction du Seigneur, et ne perds pas courage lorsqu'Il te châtie;
12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.	12 car le Seigneur châtie celui qu'Il aime, et Il Se complaît en lui comme un père dans son fils.
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.	13 Heureux l'homme qui a trouvé la sagesse, et qui est riche en prudence.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.	14 Son acquisition vaut mieux que celle de l'argent, et ses fruits sont préférables à l'or le plus fin et le plus pur.
15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.	15 Elle est plus précieuse que toutes les richesses, et tout ce qu'on désire le plus ne mérite pas de lui être comparé.
16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.	16 Elle a la longueur des jours dans sa droite, et dans sa gauche les richesses et la gloire.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.	17 Ses voies sont de belles voies, et tous ses sentiers sont paisibles.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.	18 Elle est un arbre de vie pour ceux qui la saisissent, et celui qui s'attache à elle est bienheureux.
19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.	19 Le Seigneur a fondé la terre par la sagesse; Il a établi les cieux par la prudence.
20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.	20 C'est par Sa sagesse que les abîmes ont débordé, et que les nuées se chargent de rosée.
21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:	21 Mon fils, que ces choses ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux. Garde la loi et le conseil,
22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.	22 et ils seront la vie de ton âme, et un ornement à ton cou.
23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.	23 Alors tu marcheras avec confiance dans ta voie, et ton pied ne se heurtera point.
24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.	24 Si tu dors, tu ne craindras point; tu te reposeras, et ton sommeil sera doux.
25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.	25 Ne redoute pas la frayeur soudaine, ni les assauts de la tyrannie des impies.
26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.	26 Car le Seigneur sera à ton côté, et Il gardera ton pied, pour que tu ne sois pas pris dans le piège.
27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.	27 N'empêche pas de bien faire celui qui le peut; si cela t'est possible, toi-même fais le bien.
28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.	28 Ne dis pas à ton ami: Va et reviens, je te donnerai demain, lorsque tu peux donner à l'instant même.
29 Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.	29 Ne médite pas le mal contre ton ami lorsqu'il a confiance en toi.
30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.	30 N'entre pas sans sujet en contestation contre un homme, lorsqu'il ne t'a fait aucun mal.
31 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.	31 Ne porte pas envie à l'injuste, et n'imite point ses voies,
32 For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.	32 parce que le Seigneur a tout trompeur en abomination, et qu'Il converse avec les simples.
33 The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.	33 Le Seigneur frappera d'indigence la maison de l'impie, mais les maisons des justes seront bénies.
34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.	34 Il Se moquera des moqueurs, et Il donnera Sa grâce aux doux.
35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.	35 Les sages posséderont la gloire; l'élévation des insensés sera leur confusion.
