KING JAMES BIBLEEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?1 Tu esperanza se vería defraudada: con sólo mirarlo quedarías aterrado.
Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?2 ¿No es demasiado feroz para excitarlo? ¿Quién podría resistir ante él
Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?3 ¿Quién lo enfrentó, y quedó sano y salvo? ¡Nadie debajo de los cielos!
Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?4 No dejaré de mencionar sus miembros, hablaré de su fuerza incomparable.
Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?5 ¿Quién rasgó el exterior de su manto o atravesó su doble coraza?
Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?6 ¿Quién forzó las puertas de sus fauces?
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?9 Están adheridos entre sí, forman un bloque y no se separan.
None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?10 Su estornudo arroja rayos de luz, sus ojos brillan como los destellos de la aurora.
Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.11 De sus fauces brotan antorchas, chispas de fuego escapan de ellas.
I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.12 Sale humo de sus narices como de una olla que hierve sobre el fuego.
Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?13 Su aliento enciende los carbones, una llamarada sale de su boca.
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.14 En su cerviz reside la fuerza y cunde el pánico delante de él.
His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.15 Sus carnes son macizas: están pegadas a él y no se mueven.
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.16 Su corazón es duro como una roca, resistente como una piedra de molino.
They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.17 Cuando se yergue, tiemblan las olas, se retira el oleaje del mar.
By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.18 La espada lo toca, pero no se clava, ni tampoco la lanza, el dardo o la jabalina.
Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.19 El hierro es como paja para él, y el bronce, como madera podrida.
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.20 Las flechas no lo hacen huir, las piedras de la honda se convierten en estopa.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.21 La maza le parece una brizna de hierba y se ríe del estruendo del sable.
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.22 Tiene por debajo tejas puntiagudas, se arrastra como un rastrillo sobre el barro.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.23 Hace hervir las aguas profundas como una olla, convierte el mar en un pebetero.
His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.24 Deja detrás de él una estela luminosa: el océano parece cubierto de una cabellera blanca.
When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.25 No hay en la tierra nadie igual a él, ha sido hecho para no temer nada.
The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.26 Mira de frente a los más encumbrados, es el rey de las bestias más feroces.
He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
