GREEK BIBLE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Καλεσον τωρα, εαν τις σοι αποκριθη; και προς τινα των αγιων θελεις αποβλεψει;	1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
2 Διοτι η οργη φονευει τον αφρονα, και η αγανακτησις θανατονει τον μωρον.	2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
3 Εγω ειδον τον αφρονα ριζουμενον? αλλ' ευθυς προειπα κατηραμενην την κατοικιαν αυτου.	3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
4 Οι υιοι αυτου ειναι μακραν απο της σωτηριας, και καταπιεζονται εμπροσθεν της πυλης, και ουδεις ο ελευθερων?	4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
5 των οποιων τον θερισμον κατατρωγει ο πεινων, και αρπαζει αυτον εκ των ακανθων και την περιουσιαν αυτων καταπινει ο διψων.	5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
6 Διοτι εκ του χωματος δεν εξερχεται η θλιψις, ουδε η λυπη βλαστανει εκ της γης?	6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
7 αλλ' ο ανθρωπος γενναται δια την λυπην, και οι νεοσσοι των αετων δια να πετωσιν υψηλα.	7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
8 Αλλ' εγω τον Θεον θελω επικαλεσθη, και εν τω Θεω θελω εναποθεσει την υποθεσιν μου?	8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
9 οστις καμνει μεγαλεια ανεξιχνιαστα, θαυμασια αναριθμητα?	9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
10 οστις διδει βροχην επι το προσωπον της γης, και πεμπει υδατα επι το προσωπον των αγρων?	10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.
11 οστις υψονει τους ταπεινους, και ανεγειρει εις σωτηριαν τους τεθλιμμενους?	11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,
12 οστις διασκεδαζει τας βουλας των πανουργων, και δεν δυνανται αι χειρες αυτων να εκτελεσωσι την επιχειρησιν αυτων?	12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
13 οστις συλλαμβανει τους σοφους εν τη πανουργια αυτων? και η βουλη των δολιων ανατρεπεται?	13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
14 την ημεραν απαντωσι σκοτος, και εν μεσημβρια ψηλαφωσι καθως εν νυκτι.	14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
15 Τον πτωχον ομως λυτρονει εκ της ρομφαιας, εκ του στοματος αυτων και εκ της χειρος του ισχυρου.	15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
16 Και ο πτωχος εχει ελπιδα, της δε ανομιας το στομα εμφραττεται.	16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
17 Ιδου, μακαριος ο ανθρωπος, τον οποιον ελεγχει ο Θεος? δια τουτο μη καταφρονει την παιδειαν του Παντοδυναμου?	17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
18 διοτι αυτος πληγονει και επιδενει? κτυπα, και αι χειρες αυτου ιατρευουσιν.	18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
19 Εν εξ θλιψεσι θελει σε ελευθερωσει? και εν τη εβδομη δεν θελει σε εγγισει κακον.	19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
20 Εν τη πεινη θελει σε λυτρωσει εκ θανατου? και εν πολεμω εκ χειρος ρομφαιας.	20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
21 Απο μαστιγος γλωσσης θελεις εισθαι πεφυλαγμενος? και δεν θελεις φοβηθη απο του επερχομενου ολεθρου.	21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
22 Τον ολεθρον και την πειναν θελεις καταγελα? και δεν θελεις φοβηθη απο των θηριων της γης.	22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Διοτι θελεις εχει συμμαχιαν μετα των λιθων της πεδιαδος? και τα θηρια του αγρου θελουσιν ειρηνευει μετα σου.	23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
24 Και θελεις γνωρισει οτι ειρηνη ειναι εν τη σκηνη σου, και θελεις επισκεφθη την κατοικιαν σου, και δεν θελει σοι λειπει ουδεν.	24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
25 Και θελεις γνωρισει οτι ειναι πολυ το σπερμα σου, και οι εκγονοι σου ως η βοτανη της γης.	25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
26 Θελεις ελθει εις τον ταφον εν βαθει γηρατι, καθως συσσωρευεται η θημωνια του σιτου εν τω καιρω αυτης.	26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
27 Ιδου, τουτο εξιχνιασαμεν, ουτως εχει? ακουσον αυτο και γνωρισον εν σεαυτω.	27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
