1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the elect of God and the acknowledging of the truth, which is according to godliness:	1 Paulo, servo de Deus e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, segundo a fé dos escolhidos de Deus e o conhecimento da verdade, que é segundo a piedade,
2 Unto the hope of life everlasting, which God, who lieth not, hath promised before the times of the world:	2 na esperança da vida eterna, que Deus, que não mente, prometeu antes do começo dos séculos,
3 But hath in due times manifested his word in preaching, which is committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior:	3 e manifestou a seu tempo a sua palavra por meio da pregação que me foi confiada, por ordem de Deus nosso Salvador,
4 To Titus my beloved son, according to the common faith, grace and peace from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus our Savior.	4 a Tito, meu verdadeiro filho segundo a fé que nos é comum, graça e paz da parte de Deus Pai e de Jesus Cristo, nosso Salvador.
5 For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and shouldest ordain priests in every city, as I also appointed thee:	5 Deixei-te em Creta para que regules o que falta e estabeleças presbíteros nas cidades, segundo as prescrições que te dei.
6 If any be without crime, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused of riot, or unruly.	6 (É necessário que o presbítero) seja irrepreensível, casado uma só vez, que tenha filhos fiéis, que não possam ser acusados de dissolução e que não sejam desobedientes.
7 For a bishop must be without crime, as the steward of God: not proud, not subject to anger, not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre:	7 Porque é preciso que o bispo seja sem crime, como despenseiro de Deus; que não seja soberbo, nem iracundo, nem dado ao vinho, nem violento, nem ávido de sórdidos lucros,
8 But given to hospitality, gentle, sober, just, holy, continent:	8 mas hospitaleiro, amigo do bem, ponderado, justo, santo, continente,
9 Embracing that faithful word which is according to doctrine, that he may be able to exhort in sound doctrine, and to convince the gainsayers.	9 que dê ensino seguro, conforme a doutrina, para que possa exortar segundo a sã doutrina e refutar os que a contradizem.
10 For there are also many disobedient, vain talkers, and seducers: especially they who are of the circumcision:	10 Porque há ainda muitos desobedientes, vãos faladores e sedutores, principalmente entre os da circuncisão,
11 Who must be reproved, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.	11 aos quais é necessário fechar a boca, a eles que transtornam casas inteiras, ensinando o que não convém, por amor de um vil interesse.
12 One of them a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slothful bellies.	12 Um deles, seu próprio profeta disse: Os Cretenses são sempre mentirosos, más bestas, ventres preguiçosos.
13 This testimony is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;	13 Este testemunho é verdadeiro. Portanto repreende-os asperamente, para que sejam sãos na fé,
14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men, who turn themselves away from the truth.	14 não dêem ouvidos a fábulas judaicas nem a mandamentos de homens que se afastam da verdade.
15 All things are clean to the clean: but to them that are defiled, and to unbelievers, nothing is clean: but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.	15 Para os puros todas as coisas são puras; para os impuros e infiéis nada é puro, mas estão contaminados o seu espírito e sua consciência.
16 They profess that they know God: but in their works they deny him; being abominable, and incredulous, and to every good work reprobate.	16 Confessam que conhecem a Deus, mas negam-no com as obras, sendo abomináveis, rebeldes e incapazes de toda a obra boa.
