Jonah 2

DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Now the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonas: and Jonas was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.1 But the LORD sent a large fish, that swallowed Jonah; and he remained in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
And Jonas prayed to the Lord his God out of the belly of the fish.2 From the belly of the fish Jonah said this prayer to the LORD, his God:
And he said: I cried out of my affliction to the Lord, and he heard me: I cried out of the belly of hell, and thou hast heard my voice.3 Out of my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me; From the midst of the nether world I cried for help, and you heard my voice.
And thou hast cast me forth into the deep in the heart of the sea, and a flood hath compassed me: all thy billows, and thy waves have passed over me.4 For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the sea, and the flood enveloped me; All your breakers and your billows passed over me.
And I said: I am cast away out of the sight of thy eyes: but yet I shall see thy holy temple again.5 Then I said, "I am banished from your sight! yet would I again look upon your holy temple."
The waters compassed me about even to the soul: the deep hath closed me round about, the sea hath covered my head.6 The waters swirled about me, threatening my life; the abyss enveloped me; seaweed clung about my head.
I went down to the lowest parts of the mountains: the bars of the earth have shut me up for ever: and thou wilt bring up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.7 Down I went to the roots of the mountains; the bars of the nether world were closing behind me forever, But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD, my God.
When my soul was in distress within me, I remembered the Lord: that my prayer may come to thee, unto thy holy temple.8 When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; My prayer reached you in your holy temple.
They that are vain observe vanities, forsake their own mercy.9 Those who worship vain idols forsake their source of mercy.
But I with the voice of praise will sacrifice to thee: I will pay whatsoever I have vowed for my salvation to the Lord.10 But I, with resounding praise, will sacrifice to you; What I have vowed I will pay: deliverance is from the LORD.
And the Lord spoke to the fish: and it vomited out Jonas upon the dry land.11 Then the LORD commanded the fish to spew Jonah upon the shore.
