Psalms 38

DOUAI-RHEIMS	JERUSALEM
1 A psalm for David, for a remembrance of the sabbath.	1 Psaume de David. Pour commémorer.
2 Rebuke me not, O Lord, in thy indignation; nor chastise me in thy wrath.	2 Yahvé, ne me châtie pas dans ton courroux, ne me reprends pas dans ta fureur.
3 For thy arrows are fastened in me : and thy hand hath been strong upon me.	3 En moi tes flèches ont pénétré, sur moi ta main s'est abattue,
4 There is no health in my flesh, because of thy wrath : there is no peace for my bones, because of my sins.	4 rien d'intact en ma chair sous ta colère, rien de sain dans mes os après ma faute.
5 For my iniquities are gone over my head : and as a heavy burden are become heavy upon me.	5 Mes offenses me dépassent la tête, comme un poids trop pesant pour moi;
6 My sores are putrified and corrupted, because of my foolishness.	6 mes plaies sont puanteur et pourriture à cause de ma folie;
7 I am become miserable, and am bowed down even to the end : I walked sorrowful all the day long.	7 ravagé, prostré, à bout, tout le jour, en deuil, je m'agite.
8 For my loins are filled with illusions; and there is no health in my flesh.	8 Mes reins sont pleins de fièvre, plus rien d'intact en ma chair;
9 I am afflicted and humbled exceedingly : I roared with the groaning of my heart.	9 brisé, écrasé, à bout, je rugis, tant gronde mon coeur.
10 Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my groaning is not hidden from thee.	10 Seigneur, tout mon désir est devant toi, pour toi mon soupir n'est point caché;
11 My heart is troubled, my strength hath left me, and the light of my eyes itself is not with me.	11 le coeur me bat, ma force m'abandonne, et la lumière même de mes yeux.
12 My friends and my neighbours have drawn near, and stood against me. And they that were near me stood afar off :	12 Amis et compagnons s'écartent de ma plaie, mes plus proches se tiennent à distance;
13 And they that sought my soul used violence. And they that sought evils to me spoke vain things, and studied deceits all the day long.	13 ils posent des pièges, ceux qui traquent mon âme, ils parlent de crime, ceux qui cherchent monmalheur, tout le jour ils ruminent des trahisons.
14 But I, as a deaf man, heard not : and as a dumb man not opening his mouth.	14 Et moi, comme un sourd, je n'entends pas, comme un muet qui n'ouvre pas la bouche,
15 And I became as a man that heareth not : and that hath no reproofs in his mouth.	15 comme un homme qui n'a rien entendu et n'a pas de réplique à la bouche.
16 For in thee, O Lord, have I hoped : thou wilt hear me, O Lord my God.	16 C'est toi, Yahvé, que j'espère, c'est toi qui répondras, Seigneur mon Dieu.
17 For I said: Lest at any time my enemies rejoice over me : and whilst my feet are moved, they speak great things against me.	17 J'ai dit: "Qu'ils ne se gaussent de moi, qu'ils ne gagnent sur moi quand mon pied chancelle! "
18 For I am ready for scourges : and my sorrow is continually before me.	18 Or, je suis voué à la chute, mon tourment est devant moi sans relâche.
19 For I will declare my inequity : and I will think for my sin.	19 Mon offense, oui, je la confesse, je suis anxieux de ma faute.
20 But my enemies live, and are stronger that I : and they hate me wrongfully are multiplied.	20 Ceux qui m'en veulent sans cause foisonnent, ils sont légion à me haïr à tort,
21 They that render evil for good, have detracted me, because I followed goodness.	21 à me rendre le mal pour le bien, à m'accuser quand je cherche le bien.
22 Forsake me not, O Lord my God : do not thou depart from me.	22 Ne m'abandonne pas, Yahvé, mon Dieu, ne sois pas loin de moi;
23 Attend unto my help, O Lord, the God of my salvation.	23 vite, viens à mon aide, Seigneur, mon salut!
