1 Ricordati, Signore, di quanto ci è accaduto, guarda e considera il nostro obbrobrio.	1 Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; behold, and see our disgrace!
2 La nostra eredità è passata a stranieri, le nostre case a estranei.	2 Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to aliens.
3 Orfani siam diventati, senza padre; le nostre madri come vedove.	3 We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are like widows.
4 L'acqua nostra beviamo per denaro, la nostra legna si acquista a pagamento.	4 We must pay for the water we drink, the wood we get must be bought.
5 Con un giogo sul collo siamo perseguitati siamo sfiniti, non c'è per noi riposo.	5 With a yoke on our necks we are hard driven; we are weary, we are given no rest.
6 All'Egitto abbiamo teso la mano, all'Assiria per saziarci di pane.	6 We have given the hand to Egypt, and to Assyria, to get bread enough.
7 I nostri padri peccarono e non sono più, noi portiamo la pena delle loro iniquità.	7 Our fathers sinned, and are no more; and we bear their iniquities.
8 Schiavi comandano su di noi, non c'è chi ci liberi dalle loro mani.	8 Slaves rule over us; there is none to deliver us from their hand.
9 A rischio della nostra vita ci procuriamo il pane davanti alla spada nel deserto.	9 We get our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the wilderness.
10 La nostra pelle si è fatta bruciante come un forno a causa degli ardori della fame.	10 Our skin is hot as an oven with the burning heat of famine.
11 Han disonorato le donne in Sion, le vergini nelle città di Giuda.	11 Women are ravished in Zion, virgins in the towns of Judah.
12 I capi sono stati impiccati dalle loro mani, i volti degli anziani non sono stati rispettati.	12 Princes are hung up by their hands; no respect is shown to the elders.
13 I giovani han girato la mola; i ragazzi son caduti sotto il peso della legna.	13 Young men are compelled to grind at the mill; and boys stagger under loads of wood.
14 Gli anziani hanno disertato la porta, i giovani i loro strumenti a corda.	14 The old men have quit the city gate, the young men their music.
15 La gioia si è spenta nei nostri cuori, si è mutata in lutto la nostra danza.	15 The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has been turned to mourning.
16 È caduta la corona dalla nostra testa; guai a noi, perché abbiamo peccato!	16 The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned!
17 Per questo è diventato mesto il nostro cuore, per tali cose si sono annebbiati i nostri occhi:	17 For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim,
18 perché il monte di Sion è desolato; le volpi vi scorrazzano.	18 for Mount Zion which lies desolate; jackals prowl over it.
19 Ma tu, Signore, rimani per sempre, il tuo trono di generazione in generazione.	19 But thou, O LORD, dost reign for ever; thy throne endures to all generations.
20 Perché ci vuoi dimenticare per sempre? Ci vuoi abbandonare per lunghi giorni?	20 Why dost thou forget us for ever, why dost thou so long forsake us?
21 Facci ritornare a te, Signore, e noi ritorneremo; rinnova i nostri giorni come in antico,	21 Restore us to thyself, O LORD, that we may be restored! Renew our days as of old!
22 poiché non ci hai rigettati per sempre, né senza limite sei sdegnato contro di noi.	22 Or hast thou utterly rejected us? Art thou exceedingly angry with us?
